However given that conditions vary hugely worldwide (climate, lifestyle, travel patterns, urbanisation etc.) and therefore one would expect measures to vary correspondingly. If countries are instead adopting the same measures, as you suggest, one might expect something other than science to be at play. For instance, it could be that leaders don't want to be seen doing a "solo run" so adopt whatever their neighbours are doing even if it is not the optimal solution.

It is a contagious disease dude. Spread from person to person. If you want to try to control it from entering your country, you will need to put in basically the same restrictions regardless of whether your national dish is rice and beans or goulash or spuds. You might implement a quarantine rather than an outright ban, but the underlying principle is still the same - to stop people bringing more of it in.

Just curious - do the Med Countries - Italy, Greece, Spain - have regulations that Masks must be worn outside particularly on beaches ?

Who knows what it will be this Summer season... In some Spanish regions it was masks while walking outdoors, or masks when cycling/jogging... they all had their own rules...
Greece it was masks indoors/shops/bars etc..

    Italy similar..

At least masks keep you warm here in Ireland, but are a nitemare in 30c sunshine... hopefully no such rules this year with the vaccinations etc...

As you are French youd get away with saying you are repatriation but the geniuses in the Gards have actually fined non nationals leaving the country so I'd go with access to your kids.

You could even say access to kids for their medical appointment.

Or fly early and use fast pass and you probably wont meet a gard

I don't see how you might think non-nationals should be exempt? About one sixth of the people living in Ireland are foreign born. Add to that, there are a certain number of the Irish born people with citizenship of other countries as well.

    Regarding masks outdoors.
    Looking good for France.
President maintains no prospect of masks to be worn once a certain number of the population is vaccinated.

It’ll be a swift relaxing announcement of the rule.

Anyone ventured up to Belfast lately? Saw a queue of about 50 people in connolly station the other day... Obviously going to Belfast.

Might head up this weekend on the train.

The French ambassador rightly tearing the Irish govt a new one this morning over the ridiculous hotel quarantine rules.

    I heard that.
What’s worse is it’ll fall on deaf ears.
I don’t think our government is capable of humility

I'm considering heading over to London for the summer to get away and WFH there (self employed). Only issue is that it will take a while to get registered and vaccinated with the NHS so I think I would be vaccinated quicker if I came back to Ireland for the jabs. I'm 26 so would be getting MRNA here. Will 2 weeks at home quarantine still be required in July or can we still get tested after 5 days and be finished?

Last year in Italy they were mandatory indoors, and we were told by the hotel that they were required in the narrow streets (this may have just been a recommendation by local government).

The stupidity of it is that countries like Nederlands, Sweden, Cyprus and Croatia are not on the list despite much higher incident rates than those on it

I am still surprised it hasnt been challenged in court

Not sure if this is the right subject. I am currently in Mallorca. On friday i am doing Pcr test, sunday early morning flying back to Poland and in the evening to Ireland. Can i arrive on the same Pcr test? Just double check

This masks outdoors lunacy has me rethinking my holiday to Spain in September. I wasn't aware of it.

Yes, as long as the PCR test was swabbed within 72 hours before arriving, it doesn't matter where this was done or what route you have taken to Ireland. I recently flew MAD-DUB on Ryanair with a PCR test taken in Mexico, obviously Ryanair doesn't fly there, but that is no problem.

Yes, as long as you fit within 72 hours between the time when test was done and arrival in Ireland. Mind you, Poland requires test within 48 hours.

It's really not that bad. You take it off to eat and drink and get used to it. Rather not obviously but it's not a deal breaker

The Greek gov has capped the price that can be charged for a PCR by a private clinic at 60 euro. We could do with some of that here (then again our gov would probably do an 'affordable' PCR scheme and cap it at €250).

Fair play but greece has a far lower cost of living so I wouldn't expect the same price. Spain caps the profit margins in pharmaceuticals so it does seem odd that this isn't and it's so pricey in my area but there ya go. Maybe it's just because it's not a tourist location.

I had this same conversation with someone else and he went after me over it. Ireland won't give free or sub pcr tests for travel in a million years.

It's no problem, just keep the mask under your chin unless you spot the police on foot patrol or driving close by you...

Idiotic comment. Wear the ****ing mask and don't be an asshole.

THIS right here is why the Irish can't have the same as Spain. Because the Spanish operate within the agreed system whereas the Irish are always trying to dodge.

3 people on my plane home had to be told to put the masks on, all 3 were Irish.

    Greetings from a Spanish beach

For Spain, masks must be worn outdoors (and indoors obvs) except when eating etc. Masks are not necessary when on the beach or when exercising outdoors.

Consideration is being given in Spain to remove the mask requirement by the end of the summer.

Calm down and stop berating the Irish, it was the locals that told me this, they don't all walk around full mask on the streets in 30c heat..

    Yes, yes they do.

Just back yesterday after 2 weeks. Complete compliance.

Eating, drinking and smoking they took them down and most even put them back up in-between mouthfuls.

That's why they have coffee shops open, that's why I could go places with my family.

My ****ing kids can understand and wear masks properly at 4 and 6 in school but fully grown Irish adults have to be berated multiple times into it on a plane.

    Own your stupid comment.

Well, the two people I know personally who live in Spain, said the same.
When restrictions are in place, everyone follows them. Not like Ireland

In the canarias I can tell you there is almost 100% correct mask usage, which shocked me, even with the old canarian men. The only people we see not wearing masks at all or under the chin, is the small few tourists from Ireland or the UK, even the residents go along with the rule of masks in cars for 2 people from different families. The reason for it is everyone just accepts that if this is what we have to do to get tourists back and people back earning money again, it's a very small sacrifice, as in some islands 1 in 3 is out of work and most people are surviving on 500 a month since last March. I know so many people who are getting only 180 a month and the amount of people and families that have been using charity food kitchens is just terrible, with not 2 s##ts given by politicians. It's so much harder to understand it if you are not affected by this in the same way, but when your back is to the wall, anyone I speak to would be willing to do a lot more if needed than just masks if it meant getting tourism back here again.

Currently its the 5 day thing isn't it nothing official on changing that. UK in-laws coming in July for a week (Fully vaxed, will do pcr test). They staying with us anyway no matter what, but hopefully we can get out & about even if outdoors.

This was certainly the official position in Sicily.

Indoors, compliance was pretty much perfect.

Outdoors, almost zero. Even in the presence of police.

Mask compliance in Italy last year was extremely good as well. And to be honest, compliance with the rules in general was streets ahead of Ireland. They are reliant on tourism and were determined to protect it I think. It felt far safer than here. I saw mt first indoor anti maskers here on Sunday, in Dunnes, a respectible looking couple in their early 30s. What type of person does this? They looked proud of themselves.

Like i've said already and i'm not gonna get dragged into a protracted debate on this by the boards *expert on Spain/policing and his sidekick, however what I observed is masks under chins outdoors unless Police walked by, pop them up onto your face when in a shop... Certainly having to wear them whilst jogging or cycling in the heat is a ridiculous rules.. and one i'm sure won't exist in most places in the coming summer months...
