Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

On the Gorey-Wexford Road about 4 miles past Ballycanew. A place called Ballyedmond. Cars parked on side of the road on grass margin. Been selling there a long time. A lot of older stuff.

Cheapish, clean and usually very reliable convertible for holidays at home this year. On the basis we might be going nowhere for the summer it might be a decent 2nd car for the next 6 months. It's not quite 20 years old but a broker should be able to get cheaper insurance on it as a 2nd car. Needs a minor fix on the window.

If you don't mind the 120km range, you'd get a gen 1 leaf for around €4000, very little to go wrong on them and the insurance is really cheap for a new driver. Just make sure the battery is good on an early one.

We actually have a leaf in our house already and I'd recommend it highly as a commuting car.
But she wants a smaller motor

Is that 2.0 engine the same as the GTi?

Might be a silly question, VW are not my thing.

    It’s the 8 valve, 113bhp

Would be the same as mk3 GTI 8V I think.

    Those Cabrios are a just Mk3 with Mk4 headlights/bonnet/bumper

Talk about the half arsed way of doing it but then that's VW for you. So somene back then would pay more for this than a full proper MK4 and only get parts of the MK4 but mostly a MK3 car. The least they could have done is fit the MK4 dash but nope MK3 dash as well. How dull not that the 4 was any better. No wonder it looks so I'll proportioned from the side view.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

It's mad now ye bring that up, drove quite a few and it brings back the memory, I completely forgot they had done it that way... The dash was so dated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,289 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

VW Golf convertibles sold in small numbers so it wasn't cost effective to design an entire new Golf convertible with every new generation of Golf hatchback. The Mk1 Golf convertible stayed on sale for most of the Mk2's life too. They just slapped Mk4 panels on to the Mk3 convertible to bring it inline with the hatchback but it was always a stop gap until the new Beetle convertible arrived a couple of years later. Then the Eos replaced the Golf convertible altogether when the Mk5 Golf came along and that lasted well into the Mk7 Golf's life before VW gave up on that market.

It's not like it was a secret though. I'm sure every single person who bought one seen it before they bought it. It's very blatantly not a Mk4.

Great cars. The brother had one and never had any problems with it. Very reliable and good to drive with plenty of power the 1.6 diesel anyway. Looks well in blue too. The only reason he changed is he needed something bigger so got the Volvo S60 with the same engine basically I think.

    A few more cheap Convertibles...

For less than a grand, this Megane. NCT last month to 01/22. €999. I like the colour.

This is a bit classier, cream leather on black looks good too. NCT was done 4 weeks ago and can be done in another 4 weeks, so should be good to pass.

    1.8t manual, 09/21 €1,650

These aren't the prettiest IMO, but I'm surprised how cheap they are. 2007 Eos, slowish 1.6 manual, but has plenty of spec. No idea how reliable to roofs are either.

    Longish NCT to 03/22 €1,550.

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2007-vw-eos-1-6-petrol-convertible-nct-02-22-amp-tax/28040032

Well over budget at €2,700 with a short NCT to 08/21, but would be worth this in 12 months. 318i Auto.

The roof's on those Eos are an utter disaster between not opening and closing properly and leaks.

Sound advice if you have an Eos, if the roof is closed and not leaking too much then don't touch it.

Not a thing wrong with that. Good cars. Put some alloys on it and you would be right.

Yeah the mileage is nothing when think about the numbers you see on some of that generation of Octavias. Looked at a couple last time I was in the market and was very impressed with size of the boot too.

Very little mileage on it 4 years or 8 years driving whatever way you look at it and its 14 years old so divide that mileage by 14 years and it's even less in fact it's just under 6thousand miles a year. Strange that it is in miles do and not Kilometers. I always preferred miles myself.
