‘Serious human rights difficulties’ identified with hotel quarantine system by ICCL (via @IrishTimes) https://www.irishtimes.com/news/social-affairs/serious-human-rights-difficulties-identified-with-hotel-quarantine-system-by-iccl-1.4541770

I hope the irony of it all is not lost on anyone. Sinn Fein, long advocates of freedom, have utilised FF as their populist puppet plaything to impose hotel detention on several EU countries. This is all while maintaining no mhq in Northern Ireland for EU countries. Of course they would also be the first to resist cross border checks if suggested, the key mechanism used to bypass quarantine.

A bumper summer beckons for taxi drivers and Belfast international.

Has it passed you by that NI is bringing in MHQ?

For EU countries? Really? They couldn't be that backwards!

Has it passed you how vastly different their list of countries is compared to ours, I suspect it hasn't but you fail to acknowledge it. Honestly the tunnel vision here is astounding. A complete failure to look outside of variants which aren't vaccine resistant and proving such in the real world.

The conversation in the public eye now needs to move on and move to reopening travel, be it within a European system or whatever it may be

Since Friday 16 April, you must:
    • enter managed isolation (hotel quarantine) for 10 days if travelling from a 'red list' country, or self-isolate for 10 days if travelling from a non 'red list' country - the day you arrive will be treated as day zero
    • book a day two and eight test kit if travelling from non 'red list' countries
Anyone not complying with the regulations may be refused boarding by the airline or carrier and/ or fined on arrival.

Other EU countries beginning to leave us for dust in terms of a progressive and forward thinking reopening of travel for the busy summer season.

Meanwhile another lost summer of revenue is likely in Ireland combined with Americans discovering there may be better places to travel.

Depressing to see so many industries and cultures we have built over many years destroyed by a regressive and backward thinking government.

I was following this thread for the last few weeks to see if Ireland would let us in for a visit in July. It doesn't look good and when those flights were announced and could be picked up for reasonable money today, I switched our trip to one of them. Oh well, maybe next year.

There are no EU countries on that list as far as I can see

Let's see how long the Day 2 and Day 8 testing piece hangs around for once the UK populace begins clamouring for their foreign holidays

Of course there isn't. He/ she knows that, as a connoisseur of misinformation and fear in this thread.

Back to discussing travel, I am 100% intent on going where I need to go this June in the EU. There's no chance Britain will implement a mhq for the EU so I will go via Belfast if that's the only way. Not very convenient but needs must. I see no major barriers to it either aside from an extra 90 mons for me to the airport.

Reopening travel now is far too soon and would be counterproductive. Just wait.

If you need to ask that then you are too far gone for me to reason with. I've answered that question numerous times.

They will if we let them in unfettered.

i see you cant tell the difference between Copenhagen.

so Denmark is worst, we're second. Denmark known for its car scene and imports...

    I added Spain.

So we are third assuming we don't find another.

    Think that proves the point

In that case you can just flash your US passport at the Airport and the Gards can't fine you for going anywhere.

What? Why? 'Guards' by the way.

True, but i wouldn’t travel unless i’m fully vaccinated. I’d be looking late in the year before i’d be thinking about it.

It's not true at all. Why would it be? If you are a resident of ireland, you are subject to the law.

Do you only read posts that suit your narrative? Maybe you like posting bolloxogy. If you read my earlier posts i posted that if i travel to the USA it would be to relocate if the restrictions aren’t relaxed here by the latter part of the year. Thats not breaking the law. I’m in a great position to do it. Best of luck to any cop that gets my cash if they choose to fine me.

So yes in my case it would be ‘true’.

Any sign of Ireland putting India on our MHQ / Red List ?

The blind folded dart thrower keeps missing it. It'll be interesting to see how it works out. Ronan Glynn doesn't seem at all alarmed by this variant so they're in no hurry to add it, though we are likely to follow the UK's lead to stop passengers using us as the backdoor.

So if you come across a foreign national heading to departures, you ask them to prove they are not resident in Ireland?
How do you go about that?

I have been to the airport to drop off foreign nationals heading home a lot over the last 3 months. I've probably met you a few times ;).

In my experience, once they flash their passport and it's not Irish they are waved on by your good selves, no questions asked.

So MHQ will stop variants which are terrible, but it’s ok if your an athlete or politician, oh wait it doesn’t stop them anyway, ah shur don’t worry their not that bad. But MHQ is definitely needed, it’s great !

Oh and even if your vaccinated and have a negative test you should self isolate for a week or two or something like that...

Practically this has killed tourism for 2021, only another few billion though so no issue there to bother the public sector. But international business travel is closed and that will be a major issue this summer. International companies have a huge backlog of expansion, relocation decisions coming up as soon as the world gets back to normal. Ireland will miss this completely and we will feel that for a long time. We will lose businesses we thought were safe as well as not keeping pace with growth. This whole charade is propped up by various taxes from multi nationals.

They'll find a way to leave tourists in, we're not going to lose all that tax revenue. The trick is to prevent our own from leaving in the process, so we can keep their money too. That's the funniest part of it all. We are the most restricted by all these measures. Fine us on the way out (that's if we can get a passport) and lock us up on the way back.

This was interesting. I suspect NPHET have cottoned on that there is no way quarantine hotels are going to keep all variants out (maybe someone showed them a map with Northern Ireland circled?) They don't want to keep getting blamed for the inevitable emergence of these variants. A good development I think in keeping public expectations realistic.

Yes and for all the fear monegering in this thread, the Brazilian, SA and Indian variants are already in Ireland (and the UK).

Another blow for the future of travel. RTE now running a headline “ Warning ‘variant from India’ maybe more transmissable “

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,269 ✭✭✭Chris_5339762

It likely is more transmissible than the original strain. But at the same time probably not more transmissable than B117 (Kent) which we have everywhere now. So it won't dominate.

Unfortuantely Media smudge a headline to suit their rabble.

And a grossly inaccurate article at that.

Honestly don't bother yourself reading it

Indian variant doesn't have N501Y which the other voc do.

It's also not new, it's been around for a while.

Yep sure we all know that but it’s being used to promote the anti travel agenda. That’s the concerning part of all this.
