From the press release I took it that it was distilled in Panama and then barrel aged at Blackwater. It's not very clear though.
Salvado Rum €24.99/700ml – Panamanian Anejo Gold Rum distilled in the province of Herrera, one of the biggest sugar cane areas of Panama. After distillation, this rum is aged in ex-bourbon casks once used, so it's getting a strong and clear flavour with a fruity aroma, dry on the palate. On the nose & palate hints of vanilla, molasses and caramel, with a lovely oaked finish coming from the ex-bourbon barrels. This delicious rum is from the multi-award winning Blackwater Distillery.

    On the Salvado Rum:

Not distilled by Balackwater or finished.
It is fully distilled and aged in Panama. It's a double distilled Molasses based rum. Ex-Bourbon casks I don't have an age statement.

In my (biased) opinion, it is insanely good value ´@ €25.
I've tasted it beside Havana Club 7YO and thought it held up very well.
    I highly recommend this one.

    Yes.
I also skillfully brought it to bottling strength with carefully selected proofing liquid!

I didn't mean to sound disparaging when I said "just", in case it came across that way!

I didn't take it that way at all.

We didn't make it and are in no way trying to claim otherwise. We did "just" source, proof and bottle it!

Method and Madness gin is on sale for 35 euro in O'Brien's. Picked up 3 bottles of it at that price.

Yeah looks good. I've signed up to it even though I've yet to get to the last Mezcal tasting they did.

I was also going to ask is Jose Cuervo actually good tequila, I'm never sure what category they fall into. I think the Especial is not good but I kind of bypassed them. In my head they're somewhere around the level of Patron.

I see in that tasting pack there are actually a few 1800 tequilas listed... Didn't know they were related to Jose Cuervo, if they are. I have the 1800 silver and have had the anejo before, they were recommended as "good bang for buck".

I was at a wedding in Mexico a few years back with a free bar. I had myself a tequila tasting and tried the 4 on offer. My favourite was Corralejo 99000 Horas. I'm only realising today that it's £75 a bottle. It's aged in whiskey barrels so possibly why I liked it most. I found there wasn't much distinguishing features to most of them other than the amount of alcohol burn. The waiters also couldn't seem to grasp the notion of wanting it in a glass for sipping rather than a shot glass.

The tasting flights in 777 (George's Street, Dublin) are a great way to sample various tequila and mezcal. I don't think it's overly expensive, considering you're in a restaurant. I did one there a while back and it was interest to get a chance to try Casamigos and a few others I wouldn't necessarily buy a bottle of.

The stand-out for me was Montelobos mezcal, which is interesting as it wasn't the most premium I tried. If you are a whisky drinker, and particularly if you like smoky whiskies, this is really highly recommended...

This is an audacious claim. Havana Club 7 is pretty much the only rum I enjoy, and I've put the effort in over the years. You can't make a statement like that and not expect repercussions.

So I set up a blindfolded tasting.

The difference is really not huge, and pressed for a preference I picked the Salvado. Scenes.

    Bravo, Blackwater!

Interesting, I might pick a bottle this week then so. In saying that, Tesco sell Havana Club 7 for £22.

Anyone know where I can get a bottle of Corralejo 99,000 houras in stock in Ireland right now?

    It's 29.99e usually.

If we take beernuts blind test.

You're potentially getting a nicer product from an Irish company and saving yourself a fiver.

    33e in super value

    Thankyou.

Bravo to the folk in Panama who made it, really.;)

It's nice to know that my comparison wasn't totally biased and deluded!

    I would.
But at €25 I wouldn't hesitate to mix it up, either!

Lovely, I'll give it a go neat and also a dark and stormy another night. Cheers!

The Celtic Whiskey Nusbaumer Eau de Vie Tasting scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed till May 26. I never received my pack for it yet so probably for the best.

They didn't have it in the Aldi in Eastwall earlier today. Will try another one in town tomorrow.

There wasn't a whole lot of it went to the shops.
I suspect that it will come back, though.

Picked up some earlier. I don't know a lot about rum and most of it I've drunk has been when either well on or as a cure. But I know what I like. And I like this.

Likewise, it's great. I'll be picking up a second bottle tomorrow, excellent stuff! Now go source more ;-)

They had loads where I was. In fact it was almost hidden. Definitely worth picking up another tomorrow.
