    Take anything anyone tells you about a boat with a pinch of salt :D most boats of this age will have rot you might feel soft spots under your feet as you walk around the deck. If your new seats don't match up you might have to add new supports across the stringers or add to the side of them and fibreglass them in place, you might also be able to add new bolt/screw holes to the new seats.

    they can delaminate and go to crap reducing the structural integrity and strength. They also suffer from osmosis

    The plans for the dredging and upgrade to the harbour are excellent, I thought. The likely environmental challenges will be significant though, which will probably push the commencement date for dredging further and further back. It's a huge shame as the work is desperately needed.

    Earliest dates they expect dredging to begin if planning etc went without objections and other red tape would be late 2023-early 2024. I would have no doubts there will be objections and more objections and this wont happen for a good few years

    I’ve often wondered if it would ever be feesable to expand the Marina.... it looks like there’s a whole lot of unused space that, with a bit of dredging, the Marina could expand into...... there’s already big demand for berths in Howth, so I don’t know why (maybe they have) they haven’t looked at it....

    It could even done in stages, with the 2 finger extensions first, and when they are full, look at adding a full length finger at the back.....

    I’d seriously consider going there from Malahide if there was a berth available.... as it takes me roughly the same time to get to either Marina from home.....

    Basically no. I only found this out the other day when watching an update from the club and they were talking about the marina. The marina sits in a basin that was blasted when they redeveloped the harbour in the 80s. Where you the mud in the photos has rock under it that sits higher then the what the marina sits in. Someone made the point that the area of mud north of the marina (between the marina and the finger on the east pier) wasnt on the dept of marines plan for dredging but should be dredged as this may fall or collapse into the marina basin once dredging is done.

    Theres probably a berth available for a boat your size at the moment though youd probably have to join the club to get 1. The very last trough on the left has a few empties every year

    Greystones is now full with a waiting list, including for the two new pontoons that are due in over the next month or so, I suspect that after the various lockdowns we will see a fair few marina caravans that are never sailed but provide a location for socialising in the various marinas so if you have a berth somewhere hang onto it, they are getting hard to come by!

    Think most of the marinas in the Dublin area are full of caravans

    Ah feck! I am moving to Greystones in the next couple of months. Better get on the waiting list and at the same time hang on to DL mooring for dear life! There is also a waiting list for moorings in DL.

    Remember it’s not just whether there’s availability of moorings - it’s whether the size of the berth is appropriate to the size of the boat. As was pointed out in an earlier post, there are empty spots on the most easterly pontoon in HYC marina, but they are not suitable for boats over 40ft. Same in Malahide - certain fingers are shorter/longer than others, and may not be proper for certain styles/sizes of boats.

    Yeah, there’s a few of them in Malahide, some of them
    must have 1-2m of growth hanging off them at this stage!!!!

    Such a shame to see so many boats being neglected and unused....

    Agreed, but that's a global disease. However, with staycations on the horizon it's early days yet.

    Mine is alongside the house so no weed. So far I’ve dropped about a grand spread between MPD and CHMarine. Did first coat of antifouling today. God I’m sore, crawling around on gravel under a trailer is considerably worse than painting a fin keel in a cradle!

    FWIW I recall liveaboard is not permitted in DL marina?

    One of the bolts on a jammer rusted and got onto a newish paint job. Got some rust remover from ch marine, gone in 30 seconds. Don't want to know what's in it

    I’ll have a look for it... I’ve loads of other Star Brite stuff on board.

    Was down on the boat today giving her decks and cockpit a scrub as they were fairly manky!!!

    The atmosphere in Malahide was like that of a festival..... hundreds & hundreds of folk out drinking in the sun... looked great actually, but absolutely zero social distancing going on....

    This pandemic will be here for a while yet.....

    I was in howth good few in the club working on boats and launching but the whole area from the dart station to the east pier was heaving. A dart had just got in and the amount of people coming out of the station was like a decent pre covid summer day. Ques for pints and food in various establisments looked like a waste of time. Drove up through the village and was quiet. I don't enjoy howth or the peninsula on days like today. Its getting more congested year on year

    Do i have to move my boat (14 leisure boat) every 5 days whilst moored on a river marina?? (shannon)

    I was told that it only applies to boats with a sleep-in cabin??

    I believe it's only boats with an engine horse power above 15hp maybe 10hp on the Erne that have to register so any boats below that it would be impossible for Waterways Ireland to track the owners. Some boat owners might not be happy to see a small boat taking up a mooring spot :eek: so except it to be moved around if they need the space, Its a dog eat dog world out there :D
