Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So there will be lots of new data on screen at this weekends race by AWS

In the meantime, AWS and F1 will be trying to keep viewers engaged with more on-screen insights, such as how hard a driver is pushing their car, relative to its potential, as well as braking performance – showing how close to the apex of a corner a driver is slamming on the anchors. These new ‘Insights’ as AWS calls them, will be on screen for the first time at this weekend’s Emillia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.

I think the race is postponed until 14:45 BST as not to clash with Philips funeral

Friday practice sessions now at 10.00 BST and 13.30 BST.
On Saturday final practice now at 10.00 BST and qualifying at 13.00 BST.
No change to the race start time on Sunday, still 14.00 BST.

Interesting to see if Merc have been able to get on top of their car given they luckily had 3 full weeks after Bahrain! That said all the testing and racing to date was done at Bahrain, Imola could be a totally different ballgame, answers to come tomorrow!

Really enjoyed the Vettel and Lewis press conference.

Would love to see Aston Martin have a good week.

It was raining today. Interesting. Could be wet in Sunday looking at the weather forecast.

Here's a warm up video if you're interested...

Mazepin spins after 5 minutes of practice. Maybe I'm wrong but looked like he's damaged the front left, wheel doesn't look to be rotating right. In the pits now

Riccardo confirmed looks like a wet race. Apparently very cold there aswell so could have very different sessions over the weekend.

    More Mazespin!

Mazepin smacks the wall, catches the gravel on the second to last corner. He's having a disastrous start to his F1 career

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,684 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

Ha, Mazespin. Too funny...he'll never shake that name off.

I didn't get to see any - did they show one. It's not clear what happened. Horner said Ocon was on a slow lap while Checo was on a flying lap. I would put it down to the slower car not playing ball.

From the F1 text feed , Perez tire went and he spun in to Ocon . They have noted a feed issue with footage around the track so commentators had not see it . No idea if that's what happened

Feels like every second race last year was supposed to be a wet race only for it to rarely materialise.

Fingers crossed for this weekend but I won't get my hopes up just yet :D

Now that there appears to be some competition at the front it will probably end up being wet and we will be robbed of a proper RB vs Mercedes battle

Caught some of the F1 show on Sky. The interview with Ralf Schumacher was very uncomfortable, seems like himself and Hill still don't get on.

Usually Merc get more out of turning things up for Qually than Red Bull do, so the fact they are competitive in FP1 and FP2 likely bodes well for them in qualifying, we shall see. Best FP1 times to date, session over, just over 5 mins to FP2:

Dead Engine for Max in FP2? Anyone watching able to give us the low down on Max's Red Bull woes?

With Max Verstappen heading back to the garage, suddenly the whole nature of this weekend has very much flipped in Mercedes' favour.

The reigning world champions also have a one-two and it is a big, big gap.

Bottas 1:15.551, then comes Hamilton 0.121 seconds behind and then it's a full second gap to Carlos Sainz, 1.172 seconds slower than Bottas.

Look ominous, but then Max didn't really get much of a run in FP2.

'The kerbs are pretty aggressive here'

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner talks to Sky Sports F1 about Max Verstappen's problem that ended his session early: "It looks like the drive shaft has given away. We're just trying to understand what has happened.

"We will be inspecting all the other parts as well. The kerbs are pretty aggressive here so we just need to understand what has happened."

There's plenty of nice flat Italian flag on the other side of the white line. If you're wide enough to be hitting the "aggressive" kerbs then tough.

I'd love nothing more than for Gasly to outperform Perez this season.

DTS taught me that Horner wouldn't give Gasly the drive because he was being stubborn and wanted to be proven right rather than anything to do with Gasly.

I think it taught me that Red Bull have full access to all performance and telemetry data, and didn't believe there was any reason to expect Gasly to perform much better, regardless of how it looked from the outside.

Perez is one of the best drivers on the grid and he's still struggling, the Red Bull is not easy to drive and is simply not as good a car as Max Verstappen makes it look, that's been becoming increasingly clear through a number of seasons and different teammates now.

Ah, Gasley’s performance level went down the toilet too so it’s certainly not All down to Horner. They have a track record of breaking good drivers but developing some tip-top drivers like Verstappen, Ric and Seb. Perez isn’t a young driver so I think he’ll do much better then Gasley did.

Gasley is doing much better again now that he’s out of the Red Bull.

Looks like a tight weekend and a real car breaker. Seeing the snaps over oversteer were really nice, arcs back to the early 2000's to me.

FP3 should be a tight one with RB trying to make up the pace, still fancy Max to be very close this weekend. Ferrari look solid as well!

Yeah but I also think, like Albon, it came down to confidence going to the toilet as well. Red Bull have a history of just dumping drivers after promoting them too early.

Since then Gasly has become a race winner and I think he properly deserved another go, but DTS just looked like it was Horner being stubborn. That’s just my thoughts.

Meanwhile, Alan van der Merwe still has it:

Well this has been the hardest break between F1 races in recent years so hopefully the mercs don’t kick on and we get a precession. I want a competitive season.

I think you're completely right with Albon. I think his performance at AT was similar to Gasley and if he got a second shot at AT he would be similar to Gasley now. The way it worked out was complete luck of the draw for them If Albon was promoted first then he would be back at AT and Gasley would be out of F1.

Perez almost certainly won't be affected by the politics and pressure the way the young drivers were. I think he'll still be well off Max's pace though

Perez is having to change his driving style to suit the car. I'd say it'll take a few races but with his years of experience and determination I'd expect him to be on par with Max quickly. I would say there's at least a win for Checo this year.

Perez is underperforming, that might change quickly but for now I miss to see the advantage to Albon or Gasly.

He might adapt and improve but it’s a big claim to suggest he’ll be on par with Max. I think max is an exceptional talent and Perez is alright and very experienced - good overall but not excellent and certainly not on Max’s level. Only time will tell.

If he scores better than Max this year, does that mean he's better than Max, I jest! :p

Here's hoping for a cracking season.
