Which 'new variant' cases were stopped?

They're so new the world hasn't even heard of them yet... we will all owe a big debt of gratitude to this government for courageously and competently saving us from the vaccine-resistant-yet-to-be-discovered variants :pac:

4 variants of concern so far the others were UK variant mainly. Of course many more didn't get here as they decided not to travel.

You claimed that 'new variant cases were stopped'. How do you know this?

How do we know that we stopped any cases with people carrying these 'new variants?

Why are you referring to these as 'new variants'?

As has been explained to you probably hundreds of times, there is no known vaccine evading variant in existance. None of the '4 variants of concern' you have mentioned evade vaccines.

In your own time, but I'm sure you'll be off to spout more fear mongering rubbish on one of the other threads while ignoring anything which goes against your made up doomsday scenario.

Saabsaab can I ask you a genuine question?

For arguments sake say we reach 80% of adults with at least one vaccine by the end of June as the government suggests (seems optimistic but let's see).

At that point as opposed to now, what level of travel and what level of quarantining, if any would you be satisfied with?

The statement said 4 variants of concern that are currently being tested. You are using 'Doomsday' I haven't.

There's always options, there always has been. The slowness to 'figure out' vaccination officialdom was never acceptable.

At that level I think we could open up with vaccine passports tests etc. That's if there isn't a vaccine evading more deadly variant (hope that isn't the case and there is cause for hope)

So not the proposed EU green cert which doesn't necessarily require vacination?

You won't get a straight answer there and you're 100% accurate in what you say...

"Stop the UK Variant" when it's here already, the 1000's of people crossing over from the UK every day on Ferries and driving across the N.I border daily means MHQ is useless... Stopping people from EU countries where the UK variant isn't dominant is a waste of time and money...

MHQ isn't the silver variant stopping bullet some dream it is...

So basically it's vaccine passport and constant testing forever?

The statement said that 4 variants of concern were in MHQ these were not Uk variant and are being tested.

Might be the new normal. A small price to pay.

Ok so you refuse to clarify your statement.

Thanks for showing absolutely everybody beyond any doubt what your goals are on this thread.

More hyperbole. It's as clear as I can make it. Here is the link which you will probably dismiss as it doesn't suit.

Saabsaab writes like a Ronan Glynn bot, unthinkingly regurgitating the worst fear mongering of Joe Duffy, George Lee and ISAG put together day after day. The ignore button is the only decent "vaccine" for their posts....

Unless they develop a way to post that evades the ignore button? An ignore-button-evading- variant you might say. That would be scary.

Nothing constructive to say. New to boards.ie I see.

I really wish this thread could be for travel discussion, options for the summer, who's opening up and what will be needed etc, rather than 2 threads back and forth argument on MHQ.

The other thread and indeed even the title of thread shows that a clearly better one for all that. I've been involved in it too so not blaming others or anything either, it just seems pointless and genuine travel discussion gets lost in the swathes of MHQ stuff.

Hyperbole? You made a statement and shock, horror, refused to back it up.

Ok. This is just blatant trolling at this point, I wonder who will get the card though.

You outright claimed that MHQ is working because it stopped new variants from coming into the country. Please see quote below, that you wrote, today. Just so we are clear, that is specifically what I am talking about.
It is working new variant cases have been stopped.

I'll try one last time with my questions, maybe you didn't see them.

How do you know that it has stopped 'new variants' from coming into the country? How is this in any way provable?

Why do you keep referring to these variants as 'new variants' when we have known about them for months?

Why are these variants cause for concern when our vaccines work on all of them?

Why do you think Mandatory Quarantine is in any way a meaningful use of our time and resources considering the fact that no known vaccine evading variant exists, and we have vaccinated the majority of the at risk population of Ireland? Why do you keep propogating this notion of 'variants' throughout various threads without a shred of evidence to back it up?

Well one poster is given free reign to contribute nothing but misinformation and fear mongering nonsense with absolutely no consequence for doing so.

When challenged on this they continually refuse to engage, rather continue being deliberately obtuse and providing further misinformation.

Best to just add him to your ignore list rather than engaging with him and letting him ruin the thread. His points have been repeatedly proven wrong, but that doesn't stop him coming back to make more outrageous claims. Which just means actual news/updates get lost in the flood of posts.

In fairness, there's not much to be said in that regard until we see the finer details of the digital cert, how the gov responds to it and whether or not Boris removes the PCR requirement for travel in/out of Belfast.

These are all things I'm waiting for before doing anything. But I'd say my first move will be an antibody test based on the requirements of the digital cert in that regards.

I think it's pointless getting into the ins and outs of who said what, as replies directly contribute to informative or discussion (not arguments) getting lost in it all. Just would be nice to discuss travel news, info, updates, requirements etc with either gatekeeping posts on who should be going where, or replies to said posts.

Outrageous claims? Proven wrong? What I have been saying is generally Government policy and backed up by expert opinions not that seem to matter to you and some others.

It doesn't necessarily mean the thread has to be mega busy, although it will potentially be more as every week goes on. Just nice to have a thread that focuses on that rather than a MHQ orgy (which I don't think is allowed as they can't leave their rooms :P)

Best news I’ve read all day. Hope Ireland gets rightly pulled up on this and while they’re at it, our ridiculous prolonged lockdowns too.

Is there any news on the two cases that were in the courts today? The South African doctor and the other healthcare worker?

I can't see any articles about it anywhere yet.

TV3 News just reported on it, cases to continue tomorrow.

Also there was a woman travelling back from Dubai with her 6 year old daughter to attend her sisters funeral who suddenly died. She is hoping to get an exemption as she is vaccinated but obviously her daughter isn't so she isn't sure what happens
