The lockdowns will continue until there is proper allocation of funding within the healthcare system.

I'm not even sure it's a funding issue anymore. Systemically sh1t public healthcare is a way of life with us. More funding would result in more penpushers and more golden handshakes for those who preside over scandal after scandal.

When this is all over and those in power finally lift the restrictions on us, we need to make sure that the Irish Government is never allowed to impose these levels of restrictions on us again. Understanding the nature of virus control and temporary lockdown measures if there is a similar recurrence in the future, the government should have no legal right to impose restrictions that are recognised to be the harshest in Europe and among the worse in the world. Providing the country's residents with an adequate healthcare service to handle ICU influx is what the government need to fix going forward. We should not be severely penalised for their shortcomings.

It turns out all those democratic freedoms we thought were enshrined into the Constitution were actually all based upon the whim of a weak Government and an unelected quango of bureaucrats.

0.004% of the population currently in hospital with Covid - not because of Covid mind, and the country is under the highest level of lockdown possible.

What happens if the next Government in power are taking their lead from a cabal of terrorists in Belfast? We might wish we had a more robust Constitution then.

The Irish public are an embarrassment - they place no value on their freedoms.

Agreed. It needs to be thus. Otherwise private hospitals and private insurers would have unsustainable business models.

    Can't be having that.

Funding is not the problem, HSE recruit more pen pushers rather than people who work face to face with patients.

HSE 80 bed elderly care in my area has 1 Director of Nursing, 2 Asst Director of nursing, 3 Nurse managers, 6 clerical staff. they all sit in an office and have no patient facing roles.

Private nursing home in the same area with 74 beds is run by 1 Director of nursing, 1 office staff and 2 nurse managers (both of them work on floor).

imagine how many of such facilities are run by HSE all over the country and how many pen pushers are recruited for those facilities. health sector is a big scandal in Ireland but no government has political will to change it.

    It's not my opinion.

But for some reason you know more than him, or someone you are listening to does.

Again though, we are opening up.

So chin up, the worst is behind us.

Are we opening up, when is hospitality open, when I go on a holiday, when I can get my hair cut, when can I get a new pair of shoes, God forbid when can I get a pint. Can you give me dates for these please, every other country in Europe had these dates, unless you can give me a date even to the month then no we are not opening up but I'm sure you will ignore them comments and come back with some Billy bob crap.

Who ever is doing the report will get paid huge salary and golden hand shake even though HSE has no money to retain our student nurses or doctors.

Are we really the only country in the world to have closed construction? If so that's unbelievable. I was looking at house prices recently, and they are through the roof. Have had family members bidding on properties going more than 10% above their asking price.

That's a very emotional response to nothing I stated, well done.

And, it's not nonsense to say NPHET have failed on public health. You've just outlined the exact scenario as to why as well. We've had 2 surges in our hospitals. Yet even now they are not back to a regular schedule with feck all COVID patients in them. That's a complete overreaction from them and the HSE.

I hope you are being wilfully stupid.

Nphet didn't built a ridiculously under resourced hospital system, the government did. A covid19 patient is in hospital for 3-4 weeks, a flu patient for 1.

I'm not repeating myself. Go you.

It turns out all those democratic freedoms we thought were enshrined into the Constitution were actually all based upon the whim of a weak Government and an unelected quango of bureaucrats.

But the same is happening to democratic freedoms and civil liberties across the world. Ireland's restrictions may be stricter that most other countries but the global pattern is similar.

By looking at the bigger picture it not hard to see that there's something very fishy going on. I think anyone who blames our(and the world's) present state of affairs on over-reaction and incompetence by governments is being naive.

Was in the buying process myself and lucked out in January.
Most of the houses we looked at, which were extreme fixer-uppers to begin with, went for higher than 10% over asking. Crazy, we all thought covid would crash the house prices but the opposite happened.
Now we just have to wait on a new build to be finished lol.
In all seriousness, the housing situation is going to get a lot worse before the inevitable crash does eventually come. Closing construction and viewings has made things a lot worse.

No different really from a lot of other countires in Europe, all aspirational really, there are no dates set ins tone anywhere. You said every country in Europe, so what about Greece, Poland, Austria for some examples?

Apart from the things we're putting further restrictions on of course.

Unless I imagined the fact a few countries were added to the quarantine list last night. I did have a few cans to be fair, so it's possible.

Yeah we've added france, italy and the us to the list, even though one fifth of the american population are fully vaccinated. We're an embarrassment.

First up, there's no need for insults. Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them willfully stupid.

Second, what has flu got to do with any of this?

Third, who do you think makes up the main body of NPHET? Here's a clue, it starts with H, ends with E and has and S in the middle.

Fourth, the great myth that the health care system is under resourced, is just that, a myth. They get more than enough funding but there's no accountability in how it's spent.

    Go me indeed.

Hotels will have no staff left when they finally get to open. Its going to be tough opening up with either not enough staff or staff that need to be trained.

Did we not go through this already, are you honestly ok with, "We will look into it." The UK made a plan, was that also aspirational because they are following it. What's wrong with being optimistic anyway.

Niall, you should be greatful that they are allowing us to travel within our counties from next week and that intercounty training can resume. These are massive gains for the public so don't be questioning your betters. Take what you are given and be grateful. Haven't you heard there's a pandemic and a super variant (that's still a figment of NPHETS imagination) is going to make all vaccines null and void.

We have the bestest medical brains in the world here. So good, that they have discovered as yet unknown threats. I mean, they are talking about cases rising in other countries as a reason we need to be so cautious. They even had the might of university mathematics to tell us we'll have approx 1 billion cases here by September unless we hold firm for a few more short weeks. Basic math and science really.

Most waiters, waitresses, lounge staff etc are young people in their teens and 20s. They will be the last to be vaccines. How's that going to work in terms of opening up restaurants ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,235 ✭✭✭✭JRant

With no justification provided for why those countries were added. It's just being done and that's that, don't question your betters. Fúck the thousands of people from those countries living and working here. Fúck the companies from those countries that contribute hugely to our economy. Fúck anyone vaccinated who needs to travel. Sure you can still spread the virus if you're vaccinated. You can't spread it if you're a TD though apparently, since they've conveniently made exceptions for themselves.

If we added countries based on high levels of disease and/or low levels of vaccination then fair enough. If we had a clear plan to remove countries, fair enough. We have none of that though. The fact Israel was briefly added shows that's clearly not what we're doing. The fact they've been replaced by another well vaccinated country, the US, is just further evidence of this being a farce. Where did the list come from? As far as I can see it's been pulled from Stephen Donnelly's hole.

Jim, I hope you're not suggesting they aren't "following the science"?

It's a scientific fact that banning countries with high vaccination levels actually stops COVID quicker than having countries on the list that are COVID hotspots. Just like limiting travel to 5km ends a pandemic.

Simple really, keep them shut till everyone has at least 3 doses in them. The first shot is just water and doesn't offer any protection at all. We need to wait at least a month after the second shot (which is the real vaccine) before you're "allowed" meet with one other vaccinated person while wearing a biohazard suit. The real gains will only be seen when the booster shot protects everyone from the super variant and we must hold firm for a year after that to be sure to be sure.

If the government had half a brain amongst the lot of them they'd be making agreement with the USA and other countries with high vaccine rollout to get tourists here over the summer but I guess then they'd have to go against nphet and we know that ain't happening anytime soon

They're apparently still pLaYiNg A bLiNdEr according to over 50% of the public.

The darkest days are ahead of us and they will have nothing to do with C-19 and everything to do with the absolute blinder that NPHET and the government have played this past year. Only then will half the country realise what's happened.
Or probably not - perhaps they still won't acknowledge any blame for their own cheerleading of this nightmare.

Anyway, I reckon rock bottom is still a few months off yet. Gonna go out fishing while it's still sunny here :).
