Do we reckon that (potential) EU countries MHQ will already be enforced by then?

I read somewhere today that any additions to MHQ would come into effect 72 hours after announcement. Can't remember where I read it but may be worth looking for it.

RTE reporting Thomas Byrne TD as saying adding of EU to MHQ List will be temporary.

He’s hardly going to say it’s permanent. I’d say this is making a lot of TDs very uncomfortable

If the Israeli nurse wins her case is that the end of MHQ?

Well, hopefully then when the time comes and more people in the EU are vaccinated that the likes of Thomas Byrne will support the removal of EU Countries from the MHQ.

He also mentions the possibility of also introducing a cap on numbers entering and bets that in 6 weeks time the (public/Twitter mob) will be wondering why they cant go on holidays!!!!

Who the **** is going to shout stop here? This is madness!

Strange interview that came across as. He defended MHQ but then said that people will be complaining that they can't go on holidays in six weeks time, actually acknowledging the mob that called for it.

No. She’s vaccinated so it’s likely that by the time it hits the HC or thereafter that there will be quarantine exemptions for vaccinated travellers. So either way MHQ in its current format will inevitably change

The case with the 2 girls will be more interesting.

How long will thst take for there to be a hearing?

Meanwhile...elsewhere in the EU they're handing out up to €200 each to tourists that land..

If they could give 1850e, that pays your MHQ

They deserve it after all the misery they doled out to us for the last year while enriching themselves in the process.

Everyone needs to remember how spineless our politicians were when the next election comes around.

Hopefully theres a fair few of them end up on the dole at the next one.

No one. Coveney and Varadkar have been outmanoeuvred. There’s no one now to stand up to NPHET and the twitter mob

They are all worse than each other though, that's the issue.

Like the Social Democrats? They are possibly the worst and I would have thought could have been close to my type of politics.

    Unfortunately there is nobody.

Probably FG but theyve shown theyve bottled it too with Coveney.

The opposition are likely worse than the Government IMO, hence the issue with it all.

Outmanoeuvred by Stephen Donnelly - theres one for the books.

Even Coveney and Varadkar had a barely tepid response to these measures and went quiet soon after. If they were against it they certainly didn't make much effort in public.

Anybody who screams 'I am following Public Health advice and looking out for the health of Ireland' wins at the moment....they cannot be questioned....any advice from NEPHET or its subgroups who nobody knows how they are put together....their advice stands and the government don't dare question it .....

Talk about extreme measures, they made a wrong call at Christmas but you can't continue in form...

It's like if I was a weather forecaster, I missed a storm and failed to issue a Red storm alert at Christmas and then out of fear I continued to issue Orange and Red storm alerts every day for the following 4 months just to cover myself in case a storm happened to hit. It is poor and shouldn't be accepted.

Will this MHQ really damage Ireland's reputation within the EU, with the US and elsewhere internationally?
My thoughts are that it will.
And if it will, then why are our Government and in particular Coveney and Byrne who are Ministers for Foreign Affairs and European Affairs ok with it ?
    I don't understand it.

Not right now. If it is still in operation in June then it will.

    It will damage the reputation.
Foreigners working in Ireland (500k people) will start questioning if they want to stay in this country if they are not given the freedom to travel. I am questioning if I am going to raise a family in this country if my children cannot travel back to see their family abroad.

If restrictions stay longer term, companies will question if they want to expand their office in Dublin if you can expand your office in a country that offer more flexibility

Nah not before the EU vaccine passport scheme comes in it probably won't do much damage. It'll have to go then

The day I learned of an 80 year old widower, being told to leave an almost empty store & not return, because he wasn't able to wear his mask properly, was the day I gave up trying to understand it.

All common sense & reason has been replaced with hysteria, begrudgery & insanity.

That 80 year old widower, is my dad :(.

    Fair enough.
But then why are the Government not saying that ?
Even if they can't give a time frame - just say that it will not be there when the EU Vaccine Passports come in.
Or set reasonable criteria for Countries being added/removed from the List.

I'm working for a multinational tech company in Dublin - we have now put language specific recruitment that needs people relocating from elsewhere in the EU on hold, as no foreign candidates are now relocating to Ireland: once you are in you are not getting out again. This is also costing jobs that would have been paying high rate taxes in Ireland.

Unfortunately tech companies are all too happy with the corporate tax rates they are getting in Ireland compared to mainland Europe so they won't make a case against the Irish government about this (yet).

They’ve removed Israel now so she’ll probably get an early release to avoid the embarrassing court case.
