Some mess this is turning into

When is this “we’re all in this together” going to stop and a focus on why some counties could go to Level 2 and some are off the scale? Why is Level 5 working well in Cork but an absolute disaster in other counties??

Is it just luck??! Maybe there is no logical reason so to speak...No idea really....Nit sure anyone has an explanation that adds up...

June to see ‘brighter days’ and majority vaccinated, Dr Glynn says

    https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/june-to-see-brighter-days-and-majority-vaccinated-dr-glynn-says-1099157.html

Fecking massive statement by Ronan here
“I would ask people, all parts of society, to stick with the key messages over the coming weeks which is that there is hope — eight out of 10 people will receive the vaccine by the end of June.

“We can all look forward collectively to much brighter days,” he added.
“Things will get gradually easier over the coming short months if we can stop a fourth wave.”

He means 80% getting at least one shot and not both by June, right?

    I'd still take that gladly

Agree with this - we need more data from trace and trace but government needs to manage at a more local level

Yup I agree would have expected slightly less postive tests yesterday given the 12k tests

If there is any upside, 3297 more tests today giving 70 more positives from a high number of tests

    Past 7 day average swabs:
    20/3: 545
    13/3: 535
    6/3: 557

I think this week just feels a lot worse than last week.
It's always when we get a high case number day, that's all that's talked about. The days with lower case numbers seem to be forgotten.

Hopefully if we can keep RO just below 1, we will be ok. That should be the aim now, rather than under 200 cases

    Yes.
Dublin is a disaster in areas of higher density with not enough places for people to walk in Nature and keep distanced.
So that would be the fault of successive governments allowing this type of development where builders pay the council money to avoid having green areas , and chipping away at the parks we have to build apartment blocks .
Reaping the benefits now so ;(

I don't understand the rational for 20k. Just make it be within your own county, so it's easier to understand and police.

“This might be our last shot at this. If you get a variant that is too infectious to contain we could go through the Manaus experience before we complete vaccinations,” Dr Killeen said.

They absolutely have to encourage people to meet and take part in activities outdoors. This is key to ensuring we will have some level of normality this summer. Time to get rid of the restrictions known not to significantly increase infection rates.

Within the county is useless to many people, while 20k opens up opportunities for exercise and other activities.

Not being smart but I see people say things like ‘They will lose the people’ ‘People will revolt’....What exactly does that look like? What will people do practically other than complain?

It's a statement alright, that's been the message now from him for a few weeks at this stage.

But some people haven't heard it, ignore it or pretend there's no positive message coming out of NPHET.

Let's not be naive and pretend there were no house parties, because there was.

But those house parties would not signify the increase now , it's going to take another few days for that to hit .

They'll just stop complying in larger numbers and the anecdotal stuff you read on here about what people are doing may become the norm. That's a lot more mixing and almost certainly a lot more movement.

As is happening now, people will just increasingly ignore restrictions.

What about people who live by the coast ? They would derive much greater benefit by county wide travel rather than a 20km limit. It would open up a far larger area to them

Do what they want to do . Meet with friends and family . If its not allowed to meet outdoors it will quite simply drive them indoors .

Within the county for me would be a huge benefit , we could get out to a near empty beach instead of all huddling in packed parks

He's still using the Manaus antibody study to drive his agenda despite that study being debunked months ago.

Also he's a member of ISAG

    Enough said.

No other country in the world has travel restrictions in place that I am aware of. At least not for near 7 months.

There should be NO travel restrictions. Anything less will be disgraceful.

We need our media to ask serious questions. Why do we feel the need to implement restrictions that no other country is using and that have no science behind them.

The only reason they are considering lifting the 5km is because they know nobody is following it anyways..: What a mess

People are already meeting outside. All those take away coffe huts popping up are there as a result of people meeting.

Yes they are , but it has to be encouraged and explained that outdoors is far better than indoors . If they dont allow it it will drive people indoors .

Yes. The beaches' parking areas are busy, but otherwise grand .
Fed up . Why is meeting a few friends outside not being allowed yet ?
    Agre re forcing people indoors.
Would be happy to be outside with fleeciesand blankets just to meet up with my friends .

Not only allowed but encouraged . People are fed up and suffering now and no one is taking this seriously .

I agree with you but if you went by some posts on here youd think that people havent been meeting anyone bar their own family in months.

It all depends on where you live. Some are within 20km of the sea but it's another county. This applies to many other activities besides the coast for a walk.

Neither solution will suit all. My personal preference is undoubtedly for 20km as within the county makes no difference whatsoever but I appreciate others would benefit from unrestricted travel within their home county.
