It seems incredible to me that America can get its J&J doses from Europe but they won't export any AstraZeneca to Europe until at least May. They should be sending 1 back for every they take.

Biden for all his guff about internationalism has been just as much a vaccine nationalist as Trump.

I hate the term 'vaccine nationalism' , of course governments should be doing all they can to secure vaccines for their own countries . What's wrong with wanting to do what's best for your country ?

Yeah, that's it. They'll have to return them. AZ supply mess at the heart of this but as it's not approved in the US they are not compromising their own supplies. Chances are the US may just send them on to their poorer neighbours later anyway.

But how do you return an administered vaccine? Are the US sending the vaccines to Canada while Canada are waiting for production facilities to come online in their own country? Sorry if this is a fairly rudimentary question. I just don’t understand how you can lend someone something like a vaccine.

I don't know about production facilities but they will return them from their own future supplies. It's just a means of boosting the current supplies of their immediate neighbours.

I assume this means the US give them 3m of supplies now and at some point, months in the future, Canada will give the US 3m of supplies.

Canada don't need free supplies, they've ordered more than enough. Like us though, they badly need supplies now.

They aren't returning the administered vaccine itself, they'll be giving the US a future shipment of the same vaccine

At what point will they give daily vaccination numbers rather than daily cases and deaths?

They have been giving daily vaccine numbers for nearly 2 months now.

From what I read, there are some raw materials for some of the vaccines exported from the US to the EU. If the EU block sending vaccines to the US they may block the raw materials coming here. I think it's the same with the UK so the EU are between a rock and a hard place really, push too hard and may be worse off.

No, they haven't. This blatant lie has been addressed before.

On the data hub, the latest vaccination numbers are from Tuesday 16th March.
    https://covid19ireland-geohive.hub.arcgis.com/

RTE's update from yesterday references the vaccination numbers from Tuesday 16th March.
    https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2021/0319/1204997-covid-ireland/

Repeating the same old numbers on a daily basis is not the same as publishing daily figures.

They literally have been giving daily figures. No lies. The figures are updated daily at around 11am and have been every day since late January.

It is daily but pretty sure it's 48 hours behind. There are a lot of data to collate.

Why are RTE and Ireland's COVID Data Hub not publishing them? Why do they still reference figures from last Tuesday? Where are the daily figures? How many people were vaccinated on Thursday 18th?

Because there is a lag in the data, as is the case with all data. Wednesdays final figures will come out this morning. Thursday's on Sunday. As has been the case for nearly 2 months now. It is still daily data coming out and being updated every single day.

Same lag as with daily new cases reported, which would be from tests from 3 days earlier. And daily new deaths, which could be a death from anytime in the last 3 months, and certainly not in real time.

If you are expecting real time data for cases, deaths, vaccines then you are going to be disappointed, because we won't have it for any of them.

Article in The Journal saying 3700 over 75 will get AZ jab in Helix today
I am presuming its a mistake as I understood over 70’s were getting Pfizer ?

Its a badly worded headline by the Journal certainly, but it doesn't say they are getting AZ in the report.

All of the people in the Helix are getting Pfizer.

So according to The Irish Times the Q2 numbers for J&J are:

    - 33000 April
    - 143000 May
    - 429000 June

Anyone know the numbers for Pfizer & AZ for the same months?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,079 ✭✭✭Sweet.Science

    3,700 this weekend .

It's just painful at this stage

Yes I know supply , but that doesn't change the fact how awful the situation is .

3700 in the Helix only . I am guessing GPs and Beaumont etc are doing more

Rough projection, they allowed for about 50k a week starting mid April = 750k of JJ. I haven't a clue how accurate the Astra Z projection is in this.

Disappointing tbh but not surprising. Not really gonna take over Pfizer as the work horse. I said before but I think it's worth looking into widening the dose of Pfizer once we are into the lower risk groups.

All estimates at this stage. Big first week in April for AZ due to release or 10m doses from plant in Netherlands.

    Pfizer/BioNtech
    - 550000 April
    - 700000 May
    - 950000 June

    AZ
    - 300000 April
    - 250000 May
    - 250000 June

This month feels like walking through mud. A real trudge. For some reason all the hope and optimism from Feb is lost to me.

I know it will get better and they are going as fast as supplies allow, but I think I got a bit carried away with all the big numbers being bandied about and the reality of how slow it is is biting.

Sorry, just so frustrated with it all now.

The J&J projection was/is 600k in Government documents for Q2. Not sure about that 750k, its definitely not right
