Not going along with an EU vaccine passport scheme would be baffling. Are we so conservative that even vaccinated people aren't allowed to travel?
There's also zero reductions in restrictions to the 220k people recovered from Covid or the 164k people fully vaccinated, completely crazy.

Having the entire country on the same level of restrictions is additonally crazy.

The view from senior Travel industry figures, airline CEOs etc is that the scheme is going to be too little, too late.

They are going to have to allow garden visits . If they dont they will fully loose the people and they will do as they please and meet inside .

They've already a significant portion of the population and no amount of opinion polls will persuade me otherwise. If you possess a pair of eyes, you can go into Dublin any day of the week and see it as populated in many parts as a normal pre-covid day.

Yep it's quite tough tbh, especially if we don't hit level 4 on April 5, with six week reviews, you'd be looking at 3 and a half months to get to level 2 if all went well, which would be about August 20th

Hospital numbers will have a very large bearing on April 5 as cases do look to be mired in the mid hundreds.

What may actually force their hand are the fairly clear indications that people are beginning to ignore the restrictions. At this stage they'd be better off giving people some freedoms where they might comply rather than forcing what we have and it being undermined by diminishing compliance.

As for later in the year, the theory is that by the end of June/July we'll have enough vaccinated to make a dent in figures to look at moving to much lower levels anyway.

I just want a haircut. Just that and I'll be at least able to feel somewhat normal again.

Definitely a big slip in adherence and the cue for deli food by hung over students today would be a super spreader event itself, nevermind the parties the night before.

That in itself is why the infection rates are higher .
No blame just matter of fact ..19 to 24 year olds .
At some stage we have to call it and allow a certain level of infection circulate in those age groups , but because of the risk to so many who are not yet vaccinated we are stuck in limbo.
It is a risk to them too , from so many issues that are only beginning to be discovered month by month under the long Covid and long term effects umbrellas.

But at some stage it will be said, do we close down the country and our economy any longer , not to protect older people from dying or becoming severely ill because they will / are being vaccinated , but for a group of people who may be at risk of developing long term effects from an illness they don't believe is a problem to them ?
And are they mature enough to make that decision for their longterm health yet, even though they are old enough to vote ?
At the moment we can't let it RIP until the majority are vaccinated to prevent vocs taking over , but more and more we are hearing that some people don't care , don't believe Covid is much to worry about .
So when do the rest of us throw the towel in and say ," right so, get the virus / don't get it , we are protected so who cares anymore ? " :o

I can't see us getting click and collect at all on April 5th. I'm even doubting we'll get the 5k removed as they'll need to amend legislation on the eviction stuff to do it. Best we'll get is they say they'll do it and the spend another 2 weeks going through legislation on it.

They will have no choice but to remove the 5k, if they don't remove it by then it will be on paper only, like those workplaces that created smoke-free areas outside that were rendered meaningless.

Yes same here. I chose not to travel down the country at Christmas as I'd loads of siblings doing so, but that means a long time not to see family

Haven't seen any of them since last Summer .
Will be travelling down this Summer regardless . ( living dangerously ;))
Thing is, will they want us dirty Dubs down the country ?

I can tell from your posts that you severely underestimate the damage these restrictions are having on the economy, the mental health of many and the long-term damage on hundreds of thousands of peoples lives.

Maybe financial ruin, mental health problems and peoples lives falling apart aren't as sinister as death but at some point we have to strike a balance between protecting the vulnerable and protecting the rest of the people effected by the restrictions.

It's not just a subset of people wanting to party, it's people who's lives are literally destroyed, are we supposed to tell them to 'hold firm' and tell them to be thankful because they're not dead?

That point is rapidly approaching and by the end of April or May, we have to be at level 3 at an absolute minimum because anything less at that stage (given the level of projected vaccination) is utter stupidity and a sincere loss of the perception of the overall state of the country right now.

I have family in Canada . The messaging is so different there , they treat them like adults and show a carrot not a stick
They told them to hold tight and once hospitals not overwhelmed they would be allowed meet outdoors . They are now allowed meet 10 people outdoors . Its bitterly cold but people are delighted with it and wrapped in multiple layers and meeting around fires outdoors

The messaging here is all wrong and people around me , all ages , are now pissed off and basically meeting outdoors anyway at this stage

It's a bit of a mess. Everyone really tired and trying to have a bit of a life but the more we do that the more the numbers go up and the worse we feel.

It’s because we feel abandoned , no leadership , no positive messaging , no road out , no hope . People are throwing in the towel and saying F this for a lark

Exactly , they are driving them indoors . I am really surprised that NPHET don’t actually get this after a full year
Leo specifically said last March that lockdowns must be well timed as after 6 weeks compliance begins to fall . Now 12 weeks later and they look surprised !!!

So does anyone here think Level 5 is working?

Yeah it definitely works, the reduction in cases proves that. The problem is, they've used it way too frequently throughout the last year and it's effectiveness is starting to reduce now and will keep reducing from here on out because of less compliance.

It worked for a while but it's effect is lessening a lot as we're all fed up.

I think if we relaxed some restrictions it might actually help at this stage. If you allow hairdressers, outdoor sports, click and collect, move to inter county instead of 5k etc.

Like just from where I am in cork city, there's nowhere to go and avoid people in a 5k radius to exercise unless you go at odd hours. I pretty much do my exercise after 8pm as the few parks we have ate packed during the day.

Yes.. We've gone from 6000 cases to less than 600 daily rate so you can't argue it isn't doing what it's supposed to be doing..
