In the press conference he was quite clearly referring to international travel. IT clearly not getting the context in which he was speaking

The IT has it very clear and correct.
While the EU is planning to open up travel for people who are vaccinated, have been tested or have had a recent infection, Dr Glynn said there will be “no change” to the advice of the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) against international travel before the end of June.

Thanks. The first paragraph of the Irish times report says "non-essential travel", doesn't mention international. Usual sloppy journalism I guess

Not trying to be clever but it's in the second paragraph - the 4th line of the piece.

Yeah but the headline is extremely misleading. The substance of the article might be correct but the headline is not.

Headline would lead someone to believe it was non essential travel in country. But of course it is in the international context

Briefing ...reporting ...understanding of message via said reporting .
Often differences from what is said and the way it is then reported .

Family member hoping to come to Ireland at end of April. Is vaccinated, will have negative PCR test prior to travel. It’s non-essential travel in that he’s coming to see elderly parents who will hopefully be vaccinated by then too.

What is people’s reading on what he will have to do? There is info on gov.ie saying quarantine for 5 days and then if you get a negative PCR test, you’re good to go. We are just concerned that hotel quarantine for 14 days might be mandatory by then. Just wondered if anyone has family in a similar situation or has any insights?

Is not the hotel quarantine just for non Irish citizens ?

Think it only applies to people coming from designated countries

I’m surprised that people are surprised by this to be honest. It’s been well flagged up by government that foreign travel isn’t on the cards for the foreseeable. Does no one remember Leo advising us to staycation again this year?

    Yes.

Think the confusion was an incorrect report which led people to believe it was inter county travel that wouldn't be happening before end of June .

This caused outrage of course ...but it was all a mistake .
But sure that must be Nphets fault as well , how dare they ! ;)

Could well be the case - intercounty travel is not allowed until we reach level 2 at the moment

I would think even this is in jeopardy now.

With France and Germany increasing restrictions, NPHET will point to those and say it's too risky, even though our incidence rate is far lower.

I can't see us getting click and collect at all on April 5th. I'm even doubting we'll get the 5k removed as they'll need to amend legislation on the eviction stuff to do it. Best we'll get is they say they'll do it and the spend another 2 weeks going through legislation on it.

As of 8am today, 345 #COVID19 patients are hospitalised, of which 83 are in ICU. 24 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

Well with higher cases in some counties maybe people are happy with that ?

Quick question folks. Is Tony Holohan coming back? And when if so?

That's what I'd say at best. I'm not too optimistic based on cases stopped going down and the last few days. Going to be another lost month really.

Yeah I'll be surprised if current restrictions are not extended . Only difference being construction back .

    Possibly

It would be interesting to see if regional restrictions would be introduced.

At the moment if you kept essentially the Pale under 5 it would probably cover 50% of total cases if not more of total cases now.

That revised living with Covid doesn't give much to anyone unless at level 2 or some 3 . Very hard going .

Yep it's quite tough tbh, especially if we don't hit level 4 on April 5, with six week reviews, you'd be looking at 3 and a half months to get to level 2 if all went well, which would be about August 20th

Yes ,as someone living in Dublin I am losing hope of ever being able to travel to see extended family before July or August , and if regional lockdown might be trapped here longer

Ya, level 4 is pointless. It's really 3 before there's some semblance of life.

Wonder why they even had level 4 ...should reduce the levels to 4 overall ?

Definitely a big slip in adherence and the cue for deli food by hung over students today would be a super spreader event itself, nevermind the parties the night before.

What ‘level’ did we have last summer?

Not going along with an EU vaccine passport scheme would be baffling. Are we so conservative that even vaccinated people aren't allowed to travel?

Yes same here. I chose not to travel down the country at Christmas as I'd loads of siblings doing so, but that means a long time not to see family
