If we had the stringent medication safety checks we have today, thalidomide scandal would have never happened.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/23/booming/the-death-and-afterlife-of-thalidomide.html

Unless you are saying the EMA haven't learned any lessons from thalidomide I don't see what point you are trying to make here.

That's why the AZ vaccine was deferred to establish a risk- benefit analysis....

I don't know how I could put it any simpler....

what does that have to do with thalidomide? try and put that a little simpler in your pharmacist LARP....

The reason that there is an abundance of caution with medications these days is due to tragedies such as thalidomide in the past.

That's my point, should we stay in level 5 after covid to continue this trend.

Some on here believe so, they're completely oblivious to the negative effects of lockdown so they're happy enough to support them if it means saving a few hundred people.

Struggling to see your point or the relevance Niallo.

Are you saying we should or shouldn't relax the Covid restrictions because of flu?

    What's the connection?

A review in 5 days is very very fast. I don't know where you are getting the opinion that this slow. Medication safety isn't something you write/ figure out on the back of a pack of cigarettes.

The Director of EMA stated it was safe 2 days - EMA OFFICIALLY announce it is safe today - 2 days have been lost (and confidence) - even now still awaiting word that Ireland will recommence its vaccination - while the virus spreads throughout EU , meanwhile UK continued vaccination and figures going in the right direction. Emeregency situations call for Emergency action, no ?

Thalidomide was one of the driving forces for effective regulation of medicines in the US and Europe ie the abundance of caution approach many regulators took.

Essentially he's trying to equate Covid to flu.

    Irish Daily Mirror saying:

"The recent spell of good weather, along with the vaccine rollout going well has led to a renewed sense of optimism and hope that a decent summer with pubs, restaurants, and the hospitality sector reopening isn't beyond the realms of possibility"

Well Jesus, you would think it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility by the summer :pac:

I think he's just highlighting the current over-conservative and casual attitude towards lockdowns that devestate the country.

582 new cases today. NPHET are sounding the warning bells. Time to head to the bunker.

Community demand for coronavirus tests has increased by more than 9% in the last week, the first rise for five weeks.

Paul Reid said the trend was an "early warning signal" that progress made in bringing down positive case numbers and hospital admissions is stalling.

0 deaths today which is good.

would it not be an idea so to ramp up the vaccinations program, rather than stalling it.

Which is absolutely spot on. The same people who are crying for more lockdowns and blaming the public will be the same people complaining about the cost of the pandemic in a few months or years.

No point in having a discussion with lockdown enthusiasts who will believe whatever the want to believe at whatever cost because they don't care.

If I worked in hospitality or retail I would be livid with these altruist nuts who are making false claims of the 'greater good'. That old phrase when you are devoid of logic or reason.

    https://gript.ie/revealed-how-newstalk-disappeared-a-criticism-of-the-zero-covid-group/

So newstalk tried to censor what respected journalist Ewan McKenna had to say re ISAG and their tactics. Why are the mainstream media outlets not reporting this? Why the cover up and why the attempt to remove what McKenna had to say. It’s scandalous.

Great news on the AZ. According to Reid we'll have around 15k additional AZ vaccines to administer next week. Couple that with more supply coming on line in the next month and things are looking a lot brighter. Onwards and upwards.

There was a GP on the rte news just now saying how she's noticed that people requesting tests/reporting symptoms has dramatically risen in the last two weeks, has anyone pointed publicly that schools going back could be the primary cause of this?!
Come to think of it, have numbers ever actually fallen while kids were at school?

The fact that cases have increased with schools going back leads me to think they may have been telling fibs about the magic fairy dust that they spread in schools that leads them to say “schools are safe”

That and the fact that they just label school transmission as something that only happens in the community of course!

Why are the mainstream media outlets not reporting this?

Because they’re all in bed together. Makes sense, I’ve always wondered why the ISAG scarecrows get daily coverage across nearly every Irish media outlet.

They’re never challenged on their recklessly inaccurate forecasts, always given softball questions.

In one way I think schools should be nearly one of the last things to go back, like we all know what's its like to be young so I'm not blaming the kids they're just doing what kids do but if one of them has it you can sure the whole class is going to have it.

    Have you a link ?

all I can see is EMA stating that vaccine is safe, have not seen an Irish/HSE response.

The only relaxation of restrictions were limited construction and schools opening.

Cases rise but schools not to blame.

It was Mary going to the funeral of her 2 brothers.

Just spent a lovely afternoon getting a pedicure and manicure done at home. Found a lovely girl on Facebook who did it. Tomorrow I have someone booked to come and give me a haircut. Given me a much needed boost. I’m sure there are many people breaking these ridiculous restrictions like this. How can the government keep everything closed for months on end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,718 ✭✭✭paddyisreal

Great to see the church's in the North saying they well welcome worshippers from the 23rd of March when we are still shut up. The government's bluff is going to get called very soon. Thank **** for Northern Ireland and the church! thought I never say that!

They closed voluntarily though, how would that call anyone's bluff?

Let me get that straight.. .

So all those who agree that the current pandemic restrictions are warrented (ie the public) are blaming the public (ie themselves) and being of a hive mind - will all collectively complain about the cost of the restrictions in the future?

However these same "lockdown enthusiasts" ie those doing what they can to keep the rate of infection down - 'cos they will believe just about anything - don't actually care about what restrictions cost?

    Eh?

And to sum it all up if you worked in a sector you don't work in - you would be very angry at some other people who may or may not work in those sectors but are apparently making "false claims" because you say so?

Well that is devoid of all logic and reason for sure ...

What difference does it make in how they closed whether it was by force or not. The fact is they will be open again and taking mass goers from the south from the 23rd hence making our shower act sooner than later.. It will be great crack watching people go to mass across the border with it all closed here. Mass first pubs next hopefully,

Sorry Baz, no link but he was asked at the weekly HSE presser earlier what additional vaccines would could expect next week if AZ got the green light today and he mentioned the 15k figure. 5k from last week and 10k from this week.
