Is the VRT not a killer for almost all of the winners?

Sorry if this has been answered umpteen times, haven't gone through the thread.
Maybe it is, then again maybe its not!:rolleyes:

You should go through the thread and see for yourself....thats all part of the mystery! ;);)

I remember being that confused until I read through the thread - Time well spent it was, knowledge is power and also now I get more attention from the opposite sex :pac:

Back on topic - There seems to more long-odds draws happening recently?

£22.50 for a 1 in 7000 chance of winning a car type of thing - People really need to hold off on entering these and that'll stop the trend fairly sharply!

This is currently up for grabs......

VW Golf 2.0 TDI R Line
Free Delivery to anywhere in the UK or Ireland
Includes £2,000 to put towards VRT, Insurance or just to treat yourself
£2.50 an entry with 6995 max entries

But back in January......it was this

    2016 VW Golf 2.0 TDI R Line
£5.00 an entry with 3195 max entries

Whoever won it back in January obviously sold it back to them.

According to the mileage they are different cars. the January one had around 84K miles (according to Image of Dash) and the current one has 73K miles on it.

I don't see any mileage on the dash. Which one are you looking at?

I don’t see the relevance, there’s many gangs on this island selling drugs and have a fleet of high powered cars, is there any specific link?

What's the inference here? That rkings are raffling hot cars?

I don't think it's aimed at Rkings at all or that the cars are stolen more so the police/revenue are querying proceeds the cars were bought with. Not uncommon for this to happen and it would certainly make for an easy method to launder money I'd guess.

Those are the kind of cars that are regularly up for raffle. And a quick google shows the lad who was arrested had a raffle company

I've seen a handful of similar Irish pages with Irish addresses selling at high returns

Does anyone actually know the law surrounding licencing of said raffles/businesses

I run a competition page here in the Republic. It's not long on the go. Getting information on the law surrounding it is not easy and after some research I came to the following conclusion.
It's a grey area. You don't need a gambling license as long as you are not offering cash prizes and you make the raffle a 'test of skill' and offer a free entry route. I compare it to what the likes of the Late Late do. They'll give away 10k cash via a test of skill competition which you pay to enter via text/call costs. It's the same premise, it's not purely a raffle.
I will however be seeking professional legal advice soon. When I set the site up it was just a project and I feel like it could turn into something more successful so I want to make sure I'm legit.
Just a point on the high returns. The costs involved are huge. Facebook advertising is extraordinarily expensive and you need to spend big to sell the tickets. That's aside from the costs associated with the payment provider, web hosting, office rent etc.
So while it may look like the ticket sales add up to a tidy profit, for me anyway that is not the case.

.....with R kings sponsorship of Karl Frampton there’s a lot less than six degrees of *separation between the company and the biggest gangsters on the island!

    *previously read “desparation” doh!

Doubt it, Frampton would be in the demographic that buy tickets for souped up Golfs, The other guys would be laundering through another news story

I have entered quiet a few to these competitions on this site and another well known site. A few members from my town have won

However I have only just been able to figure out the VRT charges and they are astronomical!

I could be doing it wrong but a 2016 golf 2litre coming in at over E8,000, 79K miles on the clock

    2.0 2021 VW Tighuan over E14,000!

So I think I will enter the competition that has a prize of cash only !

Vintage is a flat charge, Twincams and Escorts would be a safe bet

I'd say you're not filling in the NoX correctly as I VRTd a 2018 Golf R for 8k.

Fair play for setting up the website, but your information is completely incorrect.

The requirement for a question of skill and free entry method is a UK based law, specifically in the Gambling Act 2005. The "grey area" in the UK revolves around the skill element, the act calls for the question of skill being sufficient to deter the majority of players from entering.

You DO need a permit in Ireland. In Ireland, a raffle has been deemed a lottery by case law.

From point 27 of the Gaming and Lotteries ACT 1956 (IRELAND):
    (2) The lottery shall comply with the following conditions:—

    (a) the permit-holder shall derive no personal profit from the lottery;

    (b) the total value of the prizes shall be not more than three hundred pounds;

    (c) the value of each prize shall be stated on every ticket or coupon.

Now, this law is terribly out of date and needs updating. A bill was passed in 2019 with amendments, but it has not come into law yet.

You can be 100 percent sure that the late late show and RTE have all the required permits so it is not at all like setting up a dedicated raffle company.

This has probably been answered so please forgive my laziness.

If you won one of these competitions (there’s a nice transit on the McKinney page at the moment) how is VRT calculated?

    Asked and answered many times.

VRT is calculated like any other car that you are importing. Up to you whether you want to import it or not.

I’d imagine it’s possible that customs and vat could be due on it too if the raffle company haven’t imported and registered it correctly into northern Ireland. Assuming they brought it in from mainland uk, which I assume they are with a lot of the higher end cars.

Saw a crewcab 4x4 on the m4 yesterday with mckinneys sign writing on it and a lovely white BMW on a trailer. They must of been delivering one

I've entered a few of the McKinney competitions recently, just saw today that in the terms and conditions, under 'eligibility', it states that you must be a UK resident to win: https://mckinneycompetitions.com/terms/

The whole thing is a bit confusing and misleading as you can see loads of ROI winners in the previous winners section and each competition on fb post highlights 'free delivery to UK and Ireland'.

I wonder if this is a recent change due to Brexit or something.

Both Rkings and Mc Kinneys have now released big prize money draws today

    Rkings 2 x E100,000 E25 a ticket

    Mc Kinney 1 x E250,0000. E29.97 a ticket

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 355 ✭✭ElitesTeam

They are offering free entry on Facebook if you like and share. Are they actually adding the free entry's?

No harm in doing so as they get the money either way... Draw goes ahead when sold out.
