Various people often highlight and praise Ireland’s pharma industry and how great it is....

Can they produce vaccine for us?

    If not why not?

Could do with some assistance on this - the eu seem to have ballsed up big time.

They rely so much on tourism. Basket case economy

It'll be interesting to see what Spain do too

And one to watch is Bali. Something like a third of their GDP comes from Tourism. That's insane

In contrast, Ireland's fluctuates around the 5 to 6% mark

So can they make the vaccine or not?

Often hear politicians praising how great the pharma industry is here.

Strange question for anyone to answer but when do ye think the hospitality sector will be opening? Will the government speed up the process or follow its roadmap?

The current 'plan' says that outdoor dining and drinking (including wet pubs) can resume for up to 15 people in Level 4. For some reason I just cannot see them allowing this to happen even though it is in the plan that they designed.

I'm hoping Level 4 in April, Level 3 in May and so on. Staying in Level 5 until May is too long.

So like various plastic widgets and gadgets but not the medicine itself?

    Great.....

yeah especially when the governments strategy is to keep us locked up until we are all vaccinated. yeah sorry MM it wont work as now we have under 300 cases a day and no vaccines.

    let us out!!!!!!!

Ended up breaking restrictions today for a few hours, for the first time. Met two friends (siblings, live together) for a walk, masks on, but my god it was such an enormous mood lift. This is the most relaxed I've felt in about 2 months.

I feel bad that I've done it but tbh I'm probably gonna do it again.

They have already started to reduce restrictions.

But just to check, that's your barometer? One day of cases in the 300s and we should just let fly?

when is level 5 being revisited again? they cant keep us locked up now with less than 300 cases or thereabouts

A week before April 5th we'll know if level 4 or another few weeks of level 5.

Progress made in the last month is certainly pushing the decision makers towards a easing of restrictions.

7-day average in cases 480 today, Feb 9th it was 945.

In hospital 397 and 95 are in ICU compared to 1104 in hospital and 175 in ICU Feb 9th

Lots of pharma companies have sites in Ireland. Ireland doesn’t have a significant pharma industry though, we don’t own these companies.

You mean you couldn't care less?

Anyway, we are lowering restrictions, slowly, while keeping an eye on things. We have had just one day of 300ish cases, no one is going to base a policy of a single data point like that. If we keep seeing a reduction like this then we should expect to ease restrictions more, but not after one day.

The current plan is to ease restrictions over a couple of weeks to give time to observe the effects. That seems sensible.

Yes, but they will base them on the trend which Philip Nolan has said has increased in the last couple of weeks and continues to be be strong this week - dropping metrics across the board.

That coupled with the amazing news tonight that nursing homes now have 0.2% testing positive from the mass testing gives them every hope to move to Level 4 and give people some hope and life back. We’ve done what has been asked of us, now let’s (slowly) get moving.

Even Level 4 would psychologically be fantastic, just to be out of level 5.

Even though you cant do a whole lot in Level 4!

    Why?!!

Where to start? You belittled the amazing products pharmaceutical and biomedical device companies produce here, you also ignorantly suggested they cease production of these often life saving devices to produce covid vaccines.

By the time any production lines get qualified to make anything would probably be 2023 if we started today. It's a non runner.

Level 4 is pathetic, there is no difference to level 5. The sooner nphet are told **** off the better.

I get what you're saying regarding hospitalisations but why would you stop the PCR tests? Surely we should continue with this and genome sequencing for the foreseeable. There is still much not known about the virus at this point.

With vaccines out there and available I think PCR mass testing is way over the top

We dont test people for flu, ebola and other illnesses outside of hospital or medical settings, you go in sick, you get tested, how its always been.

We will have hundreds or even thousands of cases a day when we have no restrictions next winter. Virus is not going away, its going to be there, vaccines stop severe cases, who cares after that about variants etc, let scientists worry about it

We need to live normal again

Frankly don’t give a damn about the plastic things they make at the moment the priority is vaccines and More vaccines

Disappointed that this so called pharma industry we have here in this country cannot adapt and churn out the vaccines desperately required

Level 4 is pretty much Level 5-light.

    No great and appreciable difference.
