Probably a gap in mass testing cycles.

Nursing homes hospitals etc. Those cycles have the lowest positivity rate of all testing groups and drag the over all average down significantly.

I'd like some statistical information on positivity in different groups. We won't get it except for the odd quote in nphet briefings but it would be interesting to see.

This is a close as it gets I think:

I do not know of anyone personally through work, family or the local community who has contracted the virus over the last 5 weeks. The previous 5 weeks to that were mad with lots of people I knew catching it. This is on the Northside of Dublin.

What is the situation of those that are testing positive now? Can it not be safe to assume we should go to Level 4 from 22nd March. With a review prior to April 5th whether to go further to Level 3 then or stick with Level 4? Everyone (even the die hard restricted folks) are fed up with the 5km rule.

The numbers are at the best end of NPHET's modelling and the people need hope!

    Sunday: 445 / 13741: 3.24% (!)
    Today: 464 / 10675: 4.35%

    7-day is now firmly below 4 - 3.81%

    Equivalent two days last week were 5.06% & 4.14% (663 & 506 swabs)

    Good numbers all round.

Swab count and case count Monday to Sunday was 3660. First time the two matched up?

I thought that it was widely accepted that regardless of the variant, Christmas, or leaks, we were going to be in and out of lockdowns until a large portion of the population is vaccinated anyway.

Christmas or no Christmas, we’d probably be in lockdown again by now regardless. And as with all of our lockdowns, we get into them easily but find it very hard to navigate our way back out.

Let’s also not forget that the government left our airports wide open with no mandatory quarantine to import thousands of cases of the new variant.
I believe it was Leo who said imposing forced quarantine on incoming citizens and travellers would be too harsh and unfair, but then supports long term indefinite lockdowns on 5 million people.
    The mind boggles.

But hey, high five gang, case numbers are very gradually coming down! Half a million of ye on PUP, just gonna have to suck it up another few months. Mandatory hotel quarantine for arrivals to Ireland? Give us a month to have an aul thinkeroo and we might bring it up in the Dáil. By the way, Tony is wonderful and you're all alcoholics so no traditional pubs need reopen until the autumn. Join us again this time tomorrow for more patronising piffle about case numbers "trending in the right direction and if you're good lickle boys and girls you might get half a summer".

I wonder if the 85+ age group not in long term care have seen an increase in incidence. It seems like there can be a bit of a bump in rates in the two weeks after the first dose.

Excellent news on the positivity rate, does this now mean Ireland is off the red list on travel and back as an orange country for acceptance in other European countries?
The EU light system is based on the 14-day case rate as well as the swab positivity.

We were orange as of last Thursday. Yellow is < 150 cases per 100k, and we were at 172 yesterday.

So there's an outside chance we might turn yellow by this Thursday. If not, definitely next Thursday. The EU map actually has sub-regions, so the South-West of the country will likely go yellow this week as they've been doing very well.

He's classifying that by age rather than location. It's just unfortunate he used those labels as it looks like he's implying they were infections in school.

    Secondary: 13-18, Primary: 4-12, Creche: < 4

Think it's the age group they are referring to there, i.e. secondary = 12-18?

Hmmmm. I'd like to see a boutique festival with a thousand people max tried before they do a festival with 70,000 people

Electric Picnic hopes vaccination programme will allow festival proceed

The Electric Picnic promoter has said it hopes to go ahead with the festival if the Government’s vaccination programme is completed in time.

In a statement on Twitter on Monday, the festival organisers said it “remains in Government hands” for the event to take place as scheduled this year between September 3rd and 5th at Stradbally, Co Laois.

The cautious phased reopening doesn't look that cautious or phased.

Half the kids last week and the other half next week sounds phased to me.

All of those people who are convinced that Covid is a smokescreen for introducing permanent restrictions will be devastated at this news.

What's not phased about it? And the review of procedures and protocols seems cautious.

Interesting, can see it being the first such announcement of many as we progress. Would expect many more to follow once large numbers are being vaccinated.

Ah, they're just trying to get everyone to mix indoors in the same place and then lock those places down. Concentrated lockdowns. You know. For reasons.

You must have your own definition for phase

I'm wondering about timing, they're at about 10% fully vaccinated and while I expected it over the next few months, I do wonder if it's a little early. Will it open floodgates of those who dont want the vaccine, or who are waiting, or who just have FOMO, to say they're vaccinated when they are not?

I presumed most governments were being cagey on both the possibility of the vaccine not stopping spread and an early rush to return to normality before critical mass.

Guess you gotta dangle the carrot tho. I just can't believe world leaders are giving up so easily, they had come so so close to gaining full control over their populations forever.

In fairness, it was said that things would be reviewed this week to see if the rest of Primary could be brought back. They wanted to see if the first phase caused a spike. To make that call today, 7 days after schools reopen is a bit early tbh.

Really time to start opening up. 5km should be scrapped immediately and construction reopened.

Any chance you might give the old vaccination schedule a chance before throwing the horse under the cart just yet?
