I'm really enjoying the PS5, more so than I did the PS4 at launch. Some nice quality-of-life improvements like the way the PS button pretty much contains most of what you need to access on a day-to day-basis and frequently used functions like 'settings' is much quicker to access. It all feels far more sleek than the PS4 and less cluttered. I also love the auto video capture for trophies!!! As someone who enjoys trophy hunting this is such a cool change. I also love the addition of the progress bar for missions and for trophies. That's gonna be great for games that don't have trackers.

Another reason why I'm more positive on it is because Astro's Playroom was a wonderful first impression. As well as being a complete joy from start to finish that pays tribute to the legacy of Playstation, it's the perfect game/tech demo to show off the features of the new controller.

Some areas for improvement (provided that I just haven't missed the options to customise these features):
    • We need quick resume like X Box. It's weird that it doesn't have it.
    • We need actual customisable themes. I get why they would exclude it at the beginning - they probably want us to experience the default for a while but part of a console feelings like it's ours is being able to play with aesthetics.
    • Better avatars that are easy to access.
    • Bring back the activity feed. I like seeing what people are up to.
    • Trophy list should be vertical on the profile. Horizontal is hard on the eyes. Feels like change for the sake of change.

That's pretty much it. Looking forward to getting the best out of the console. I think this generation is gonna be wild. Buckle in!

Went to turn on the PS5 this evening to claim the Plus games for this month.

Console beeped when I turned it on and light flashed blue about five times, then white five times and then solid white. No output to the TV.

Tried shutting down using the power button as per Sony instructions and I got white flashing lights, followed by blue then orange, after about 30 seconds all lights finally turned off.

Tried turning on again and the exact same thing happened so I did a force shutdown by holding the power button and then unplugged for 30 seconds. Still no joy.

Same story on another TV. Eventually got it going on the PC monitor on the third go. I hope to God this isn't the start of issues popping up, I'm already having an issue with the right trigger on my controller.

This happens my PS5 a lot. I find if you press the disc eject button (if a disc version), seems to wake it, booting into repair mode

Sounds like a random software bug, maybe formatting the unit completely would fix it? Hopefully they eliminate it in the next firmware.

I had to google what that was. I generally only play one game at a time these days so it’s an issue that doesn’t really affect me

I’m blown away at how quickly I can resume whatever game I’m playing though. The PS loads up the profile selection screen quicker than my tv turns on too :p So whenever I’m turning on both at the same time I’m playing the game less than 5s after selecting my profile

Is there any more word when the expandable memory feature will be enabled?

Stories like this make me paranoid that mine is the same but I can’t hear it because it’s too far away and the Soundbar is too loud :pac:

If you can't hear it, does it matter.

If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around, does that make a bear catholic?

If it’s there then there’s something wrong. Could lead to a kablammo down the road :(

How loud is everyone's? Mine comes in at 65db when starting up

If there's noise people should try lifting the console, if it gets quieter then that means it's the vibrations going through whatever it's on. Especially if you've any IKEA like furniture that's hollow.

    Practically silent for me.

Wow, the sound it makes when you first put a disk in sounds like a bloody microwave.

Just ran my first backwards compatible game on it and had no problems whatsoever. Downloaded from the PS4 cloud storage and installed the disc & updates with no problems. :) Thank goodness that there are separate storages for PS4 and PS5!

Another nice change: it gives you the option of how much video footage you'd like to capture now so no more unnecessary 15 minute long videos taking up storage capacity prior to editing when you only need about 1 minute.

All the PS4 versions had X6 Blu ray drives (why the Pro never did 4k), but the PS5 is X16. So at max read that's the difference between ~5K and ~13K RPM.

Hate to break it to you but that was a PS4 feature too! Took me a good few GB to figure that out though.

Was that not only on the Pro?

Anyone else having trouble playing Bluray discs in it?

I've tried to watch a couple of movies and most of the time itwill start but shortly thereafter I'll get an error and the app will close.

Not a problem playing them on my PS4

Just replying to myself in case anyone else is having this issue.

It turns out that I have "BD Live" set as on in the settings. It's the BD Live thing that's failing and killing the discs playing.

I turned this off and now I can finally play movies on my console :)

Upgrade to PS5 was worth it for the QoL upgrade that it is,faster loading is a god send. Was so sick of progress bars and twirling circles on PS4!!

Although I'm still playing games that came out on PS4 the boost to framerates or just the fact they actually stay bloody locked to 30fps is such a different change of pace for console gaming.

    Are you using rest mode?

I don't think that was quite fixed from launch, I haven't been using it at all as heard can cause issue's...

Yeah I've had the same problems recently with rest mode and external hard drive. Disabling rest mode does the trick but you'd of thought it would be fixed by now.

Yes using rest mode but not using an external hard drive.

Try not using it a few days and see how you get on...

Picked up my new PS5 this morning after giving up my old one after launch due to the coil whine on it. This one seems to have the same issue. Very annoying electronic buzz when you launch a game. Almost silent when in menus. Will just have to put up with it now I guess.

The best thing you can do is try not to listen for it because the more you do then the more you are gonna hear it.
