What do you propose they do about it?

Do you think it should be the main headline on our national news right now and do you think these students should be expelled.

Yeah not if it's prolonging the misery for the rest of us then I have no sympathy.

    We're getting closer each day.

We are waiting for vaccines, these parties are prolonging nothing. They has us looked up last year with a handful of cases ffs.

Expelled and locked up for 90 days at a minimum. Maybe then the idiots will get the message.

We been ****ed since the day the virus arrived. The Irish have a long long tradition of doing the wrong thing and ignoring authority, did you think generational change was going to happen. This virus will be with us for years to come, the only joy of it, the idiots having house parties and young people flouting the rules will spend the rest of the lives paying it back. Imagine where we would be now if everyone just did as they were told back in May?

Found this interesting - NY Times shows a breakdown of restrictions by State across the USA. A quick look suggests that we are suffering over here to a far greater extent, even though numbers in the USA are seemingly dropping quickly too. Rather than our 5km, nobody is restricted in crossing state to state. But I guess their figures are still worse.

    New York:

Colorado have a somewhat more believable plan than ourselves - which appears to give people clear ideas of what needs to happen to loosen restrictions (notwithstanding they don't have that many compared to us):

Americans do not care about covid. This has been obvious since day 1.

They had thousands at the Superbowl a couple of weeks ago.

They should not be used as any comparison and their officials should not be used by Irish media to give advice.

Gotta be a bit jealous of the freedoms they have though!

I did say on this forum it wouldn't be long before the young are blamed again.....

If I knew how to post WhatsApp videos here, you could see with your own eyes what the young students in UL are up to. Their behaviour is a disgrace, during a national pandemic.

I know this is pedantic , but no such thing as a 'national pandemic.'.
In reference to the students I'm surprised it's not more widespread tbh.

What about the rest of Europe that had experienced exactly what we have just at different points, the Germans are sticklers for rules, didn't make things much better in Germany.
The self loathing posts never fail to make me smile.

They actually think that the EU give a monkeys.

Germany actually started reducing their levels of restrictions yesterday.

    The strictest in the EU?

Have you forgotten what it was like in Spain in March and April of last year?!

It's really pathetic of RTE to devote a section on people breaking rules at funerals.

    On Prime Time tonight.

It's one of the factors that led to last November's lockdown. So it is relevant!

Yes, I should have said "Global Pandemic". I was trying to reply to your original point where you complained that "the young people" were being blamed again. They are very much to blame.

Feel sorry for the students tbh. I got 4 good years of it when I was in college. Made a clown of myself a good few times but never made the news. A good few of them, if not all, are drunk no doubt. Will regret it now due to all the headlines. How could sh1t like that not have an effect on young people? Still being shaped for the future. Anyway, nobody wants to talk about that. It’s all about cases and numbers. Young people trying to live their lives.

Who’s have thought you’d ever look online and all the auld ones on Facebook are screaming “where’s his mask”.. “no social distancing”, etc. It’s just plain bizarre the whole thing. Some people will never come out of this.

I understand the public health side of it too, so don’t need a lecture off an armchair scientist here either. I just genuinely feel sorry for the students. And the sad people who are outraged about. Sad situation all round.

I wasn't complaining just pointing out once people moved on from whinging about the airport's most likely the young would be the target again. 'They are very much to blame' what all of them ? A very large under 30's cohort in this country, the majority have done what is asked of them and they have been doing it for the best part of a year. I admire them considering the virus is not that dangerous to them, they have put their lives on hold for the benefit of others.

I was almost thinking along the same line, until I saw the videos posted on twitter. We are not talking a few people having cans in a house, this anti social behaviour in a residential housing estate is ridiculous even in non Covid times. Search limerick on twitter and have a look

Tis ridiculous alright. I can’t justify it really but I think they might be driven to it. That place is mental down there at the best of times. College court, I’ve seen scenes similar to that before but again it never made the news.

They all know it’s wrong they’re not stupid. Or maybe they are. But again, it’s just depressing the outrage about things like this.

If i could make a better example. My son who is 3 went outside earlier to play with some kids whose parents are scared sh1tless about the virus. The kids who aren’t much older turned their back on my son and told them to keep two metres away. Couple of minutes later they retreated inside to safety.

How could anyone be right in that situation? Fecking pathetic.

I have no problem with young people socializing whatsoever if there mixing with groups working from home and on PUP and take sensible precautions with their movements like not visiting family members or elderly relatives.

The virus doesn't effect them so as long there taking some precaution into account with their movements.

Once all the over 65's and vulnerable are vaccinated it will be even harder to keep these things from happening, might even be impossible. I mean at that stage the over 65's will be meeting up with each other for tea and chats as is already being reported in the UK.

There has been very little acknowledgement that people in their twenties have suffered the most during this pandemic, while being at almost no risk from covid.
Hang on now.. Surely the people who suffered the "most" are the people who got sick and died. Maybe the loved ones they left behind.

I've no doubt it's been tough for students not socialising and getting the ride (with which many of us can no doubt empathise), but to try claim they're the real victims of the pandemic is a bit of a f*cking stretch.

Yes I feel some sorrow for the students. Their lives have been turned upside down. They are not the only ones. Every person in Ireland has had their life upturned/destroyed.

Yes, I am a "sad" person who can see, within my 5km, 50+ people party when I can't even call to my friend's house.

Pedro Sanchez has refused to order a second lockdown. However, there has been a curfew in Spain.

Here, in this republic, there never was a time-limit on exercise or a curfew.

    It's not about public health.

I think people in danger from the virus should isolate if they feel in danger.

It's that these students are prolonging the misery of lockdowns for the rest of us.

    It's not fair.

My son hasn't been on campus since last October. I have never been more busier in my job. Not the same for everyone.
