    We have probably all seen the disgusting conduct of the use of an explosive toward gardai. Thankfully no garda were hurt in that incident but there were reports of some being hit with projectiles in the shameful violence.

    “They have made threats online - they have the capacity to carry out their threats.

    This seems to be more of the protest from October where anti-mask and anti-lockdown groups also protested.
    At that event the Gardai said that there was no permit required for such an event and that it had no role in arresting people for refusing to wear masks or socially distance.

    Why did Gardai try to stop the protest this time?
    Why are they unwilling to name the group they claim is responsible?

    From what I saw, it looked like one knob fired a repeater at the Garda, then ran like the coward he is leaving people behind to take the retaliation.

    Yes, bit strange that it wasn't mentioned in an official press conference alright. If it is the case, why not have it publicly stated? 'Senior Garda sources' :rolleyes:

    Maybe in a few days it will be confirmed officially.

    The right support the right being the authority. So no it doesn’t make them left wing. However I’m not sure many of those supporters have strong political beliefs beyond getting out and being idiots.

    As for ideology, anti mask and and vaccine ideologies are not confined to the right. A lot of people who are into “wellness” and herbal remedies have been opposed to vaccines (big Pharma) for years. They tend to oppose vaccinations and lockdowns. Anti lockdown groups could easily be left anti authoritarian. Perennial protesters often turn up at these things. Then there’s the lunatics. The anti police types (not anti fa but criminals).

    A mixed bunch like the yellow vests.

    Yeh. I don’t think we should take instruction from a police state. Of course the guy who fired the fireworks was a criminal or terrorist. (Blue lives matter). Everybody else were protestors.

    The only videos I have seen indicates mostly male, most young ( < 30), home made banners, they were signing ole ole. No speakers.

    I wonder will we get any journalism on this.

    It's a quite honest mistake to make given how similar far left and far right is, especially in their love of achieving their goals with violence.
    In fact antifa have more in common with the far right nazi they claim to be against than with the moderate left.

    As it happens Ireland isn't USA.

    The main body of counter-terrorism legislation in Ireland is the Offences against the State Acts 1939-1998.

    These Acts were introduced and have been primarily used to counter the threat posed by the IRA.

    The Act criminalises many actions deemed detrimental to state security. An organisation can be made subject to a suppression order under the act, after which being a member of or directing the activities of such an unlawful organisation becomes an offence.

    The opinion of a senior Garda can be admitted as prima facie evidence of membership.

    They use Telegram. The "wellness" crowd tend to post pious nonsense on twitter/instagram rather than march or riot

    Among the protesters was Erica Parker, a mother of one from Swords, who was drinking a can of Heineken while holding a flyer from the National Party. Parker and her friend Susan wore matching black hoodies which said “RTE sold there [sic] souls” and “Save our children from the reptilians”.

    Parker said she was protesting against the lockdown and vaccines. “We’re here to protest against RTE as well,” she added. Her friend said over “9,000 people went missing in Ireland last year”.

    Asked how this was linked to RTE, the pair outlined a conspiracy theory that involved babies being killed and harvested for “adrenochrome” which is used to keep RTE celebrities “looking young” while the corpses are buried under the new children’s hospital.

    The two claimed the government were “basically paedophiles” and that there were videos explaining this on a website known for hosting far-right speakers and conspiracy theories.
