    Thanks that's interesting!
A friend was OOM 54 for Wicklow but took a position for Dublin, started Jan 4th.
They regretted accepting the Dublin position and felt had they waited they'd have got placed in Wicklow.
Good to know that's not the case!

Does anyone know what type of work a clerical officer would be carrying out at the Dept of Agriculture?

A friend is in the Dept of Ag.
They're in Dublin Port, be aware of that as it's awkward to get to if you've no car.
The Dept of Ag has many offices around Dublin so you could be anywhere.

My friend's work is clerical admin stuff.
Answering the phone, replying to emails that kind of thing.
You're not out dealing with trucks / drivers.

They really like the office though it's quite busy, definitely not an easy ride as the media make civil service jobs out to be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭Tashajulia1993

My references where handed in a week ago by my current employer, does it usually take this long for them to get in touch with a start date?

Depends on really what they/you were employed as and what division they/you are assigned too. Is it Clerical Officer (CO) or Clerical Officer Portal Inspector (COPI)?

Hi I'm hoping i can get an answer. I did the interview for the Dublin Revenue customs officer last Friday. It went well ( i think). The location just wont suit me. I now know that I initially should have ignored this expression of interest. I'm hoping i dont pass the interview now. My question is if I pass the interview, can i decline the offer and they put me back on the panel? Many thanks

Probably best to email the Revenue CO email address that PAS are using. I can send it to you by private mail if you dont have it. Did they say by any chance when they would get back to you to tell you your result?

My references were contacted a few week ago but haven't heard anything since, is this normal? and if I got this far and am unsuccessful will I be contacted and told or are you essentially ghosted unless you get a position start date?

It like they are delaying your start due to the level 5 restrictions. If they give you a start date and contract they have to put you on the payroll from that date, which would be a waste of money if they can't train you in.

I was called for a panel interview for the Training & Education board, has anyone interviewed with them? I have never done a panel interview so any insight would be great

So reply was they they contacted me for clearance on 13/1 batch 16 OOM 50 yet I have no email or message board or phone call.

I have expressed Im am still interested so hears hoping they get back to me soon.

Another question is if I apply for an ETB service officer role would that affect panel position.

How long did it take to get all your clearance to come back. I believe after Garda vetting there is another longer check?
My vetting came back in 2 days wondering how long for further checks to complete and asked for references?

    Thanks

Just sent you a private message with email address and also another one. It is the address PAS are using for the Revenue Customs Officer competition. Best to contact them quickly.

Would an existing CO be able to apply for competition when it comes up again? Lost my faith in mobility and transfer lists so I can't rely on them anymore.

Who do you e-mail to find out what batch they are on?

Hi, you can indeed apply for the next CO competition if your an existing CO. I have done this and so have many others.

For CO the mobility lists should be moving quickly if there's vacancies as its 50% from transfer lists . With Open comp if its a large dep in an area even if your top of an open panel you could be offered the same place again if it's losing staff.

I know a CO who instead of waiting for mobility, applied for the CO Comp last year and was placed in a new area in January, closer to where she lives.

Streamline enough move, fisnished in one job on the Friday and started in the new position on the Monday.

So always worth throwing your name in the hat again when a new competition comes along.

Same for pretty much any grade, know the competencies and have examples of them. Google STAR method to structure your examples but it's not really necessary at CO level to use STAR.

Hi, I started on Monday and got paid today, I only received €313.50, does anyone know if this is a full week's pay or does the working week run Thursday to Thursday for example as it seems a bit low and I cannot access my payslip to check as I'm still waiting to be set-up on the system. Thanks.

I started on a Monday and got paid full week. I'd say you're probably paying emergency tax. It will all even out in a couple of weeks. I know revenue are notified of my wages upto 3 weeks in advance. Just check all your tax credits are allocated to your new job and it will be fine.

Does anyone know if you are assigned to AGS whats the role like and the hours?

It's roles are extremely diverse, but you can expect a lot of filing, photocopying and typing out of minutes/letters/emails and typing up of statements/memos of interview. That said in some areas there is a real opportunity to carve out a role for yourself if you're so inclined.

The hours will either be the standard Civil Service hours 9 - 5.45 mon-thurs and 9 - 5.15 Friday (1h15 for lunch) or more likely flexi - it really depends where you end up. At the moment hours are all over the place due to COVID.
