Why are they still holding these press conferences so late in the evening and at a time when it clashes with 6.1.

    A bit of a joke.

You can watch the press conference then playback the news

    Why not.

Clashing with 6.1 isn't important to me.

All the NPHET work. They have meetings and other stuff to do. The time suits. There's no need to change it.

The 7-day moving average has almost halved in the past month from a peak near 750k to ~385k

Well maybe you should log off for a while then. Its difficult enough to get through this bloody pandemic without misery-seeking doom merchants looking to nitpick every bit of positive information in a further attempt to wallow in bad news. Some people see to just want to drag everyone down into their own misery.

    Well aren't you charming

Or they could just hold the press conference earlier so we can watch it and evening bulletins can feature important lines from it.

No on the basis of one day without deaths

    21 December.

Pressure will mount for the schools to reopen.

Decision making can not be done on deaths reported on a given day.

    We all know why.

Considering there is 300,000 plus British people living in Rep of Ireland, you'd think the UK would at least vaccinate them, that would help us.

I would imagine that a good few of those who have maintained ties (being registered with a GP, even if it’s historic) will be going back to get one. I still am registered with a GP in London so I for sure will be going back when it’s my time.

Would you not have to prove residency ?

Considering all the criticism of RTE's coverage of the pandemic, I'm surprised anybody would be concerned about that particular clash.

Can't blame you, will be bloody ages before getting it here.

Where did this come from? I'm from the UK and I'd hope that I am in line for the vaccine just like everyone else. I don't think it would make sense to leave people out as such a high ceiling is required to reach herd immunity.

Random and unrelated really,but....I’d love to tickle Prof Nolan....just to see how he’d react

6 weeks into a level lockdown and it's still very prevalent in the community.

Hard to see where this strategy is going long term.

We'll be back at thousands of cases again when things open up even slightly.

Isn't this inaccurate in the sense that there was insufficient testing in March/April when there was a considerable number of cases?

I wonder will they turn down the vaccine if it's the Oxford astrazeneca one.

There's always missed cases. More missed cases in March April obviously.

We can also say that there was insufficient cases between December and January when there was mass testing in high risk environments and testing of close contacts was cancelled.

Yeah strange that schools could be opening

I'd love a breakdown of where these cases are occuring 6 weeks into a national lockdown
