Seeing as we aren't allowed exercise our democrats right to the freedom of travel, then you can be sure Hotels would do okay. When restaurants did open people couldn't wait to book a night out for a meal, even if it was for a 2 hour slot, so again they'd do fine. Ditto for pubs, not everyone thinks this virus is a death sentence and are happy to make their own decisions.

Jobs won't go regardless, they'll go if a business is poorly run or offer a poor service. What we have done now is take away that option and closed them en masse and for what exactly?

The British government is going to fine and jail people going abroad to problem countries.

As we speak there are investigators in a lab in China trying to figure out what has happened. The reason they are there is to ascertain what was going on in that lab in relation to this pathogen.

If you want to let your own guard down and get infected, do what you like, up to you.

    That's your freedom.

But governments around the world will not be taking chances any time soon and whether you like it or not restrictions will apply - not to protect you, to protect others.

That is why the restrictions are there because the harsh reality is there are a lot of people who are totally feckless and given the opportunity simply will not take the basic precautions.

You can complain about it and that is your right. It does not change the facts on the ground.

Kermit, if pubs, restaurants and hotels were currently open, even at reduced capacity, they'd be busy enough to be sustainable. There was a restaurant owner on Radio Ulster last week that said that even if they were only running at 25% capacity, they would be breaking even.

The WHO have spoken on that matter. The lead investigator Peter Daszak, who just so happens to have very close ties with said lab and GoF testing, says there is no chance it came from the lab. I believe the latest fairytale is frozen badgers or something along those lines.

Since when is wanting to live life feckless? Since when do democratic governments get to decide how far from your house you can walk? Who made you and other the arbitar of truth?

I don't need the government to hold my hand every step of the way and many others don't want it either. You do, and that's fine, but don't dress it up as wanting to protect others. That's the biggest pile of manure I heard in a while. It's a policy based on fear and that fear has lost it's lustre for an awful lot of people.

Right so 3 news case in Auckland after no cases for 6 months. Anyone returning to NZ has been required to isolate in state run facilities for months.

Proving that zero covid will never work and why people keeping dreaming of this fantasy is beyond me.

Totally bizarre to suggest pubs and restaurants wouldn't be busy if they reopened soon. Many people know the risks involved and they will act accordingly, older people most likely will not go because they will may feel vulnerable.

But the majority of the population would be willing to get out again. No matter how much the word 'seflish' is thrown around like a piece of candy.

Exactly the places would be full.

Covid is 0 risk to most of the population.

In advance of anyone getting triggered watching the rugby this afternoon. The players will stand 2 meters apart during the anthem. This is a poorly throughout sop to the Covid restrictions. It is not being done to get at anyone but is nothing more than an acknowledgement within the sport of what is going on in general, in spite of the sport being within a bubble

    Who will? New Zealand?

The country hours away from anyone else. Who's people are told not to leave but if they do have mandatory quarantine.

Still have covid cases and occassional lockdowns.

And people think Ireland can have zero covid????

What planet are these people on? Because it isnt this one.

Correct, they found no evidence of transmission between the asymptomatic and close contacts.

Some elderly people would go as well.

Before anyone had heard of covid an elderly acquaintance of mine, who smokes, said to me 'A flu would carry me off'.

He was still going to the bookies every day until the 1st lockdown forced them shut.

Another elderly man I know was out at outdoor cafes over the summer.

Another 'selfish' Spanish court gives permission for bars and restaurants to reopen for business - link

A court in the Basque Country on Tuesday suspended a regional order shutting bars and restaurants in hard-hit areas, following an appeal by business associations.

There have been protests by restaurant workers and owners and several regional authorities have started winding down restrictions imposed on the hospitality sector in December.

This is why it is nearly time for tougher legislation across Europe in my view. Restrictions are required and needed for some time to come. Courts should not have any excuse.

The numbers confirm the restrictions are blown out of proportion.

If you think from a perspective who benefits from the current state of affairs, you would have to say that it is China.

The worlds order is changing and US is getting relatively weaker with respect to other powers, and especially China. History shows that countries that overextend themselves suffer economically (GB and now US) and crashing US economy plays into Chinese hands. That is not a theory, and definitely not a conspiracy.

It is time to start learning Mandarin guys...

The courts are there to maintain the rights of citizens and ensure that a government can't just ride roughshod over them. They form an integral part of a democratic society. Maybe you would prefer to live in an autocratic state and that fine, there's plenty of them around for you to move to.

Nobody has brought a case to the high court yet so we don't really know. Will be interesting to see if any group do challenge this over the summer, particularly if severe restrictions remain until that time.

Using the metrics they have been using so far (number of cases), the yoyo lock-downs are here to stay for ever. The zero-cov. idea is just as ridiculous as trying to stop the spread of any respiratory illness (sorry, symptoms or even lack of them) to... zero. To achieve what?

We know this is impossible task no matter what we do, so what is the point in this action taking aside conspiracies? Because we had no excess deaths in this country in 2020. And no major hospital overrun.
