I have to say I personally think phased reopening is much safer, it cuts down your exposure to other households at second level quite substantially and gives a chance to pause or delay re-opening if numbers creep up.

Outside of that, however, I don't know.

Yup I am just thinking about when all back in building, in my school that will be over 1000 people and in one of the highest per 100,000 in the country.

Phased reopening is great but what then. There needs to be more than that, they cant ignore the fact that eventually the schools will have full capacity in few weeks.

Well numbers are down greatly on what they were. Our school had no cases from September to Christmas holidays, so what they were doing worked. Staggered times, drop off points, sanitizing hands, masks for older primary kids. It worked.
We need to try get the kids back, especially smaller ones who can’t do online learning and have missed so much over the last year. Let alone the social side of things.

That you know of. Officially our school was informed of one case, we know we had many more as we had asked parents to let us know.

Also just so you are aware, primary kids haven't had to and as it stands when we return don't have to wear masks.

Is the Indo leak correct? Can any teachers here confirm it? Really hope it’s true and some Primary is back from 1st of March.

No one actually in schools has a clue. We get our information like Joe and Jane Bloggs from whatever media outlet has been slipped it. Only thing we know for sure is that the return of the LC is the priority, this was confirmed by MM yesterday when asked what were the priorities for education.

So according to the leaks LC back February 22.

Primary schools back phased from March 1 and remaining secondary school students phased from March 8.

I'm not sure that is phased enough, I thought we needed at least 2 weeks between each to see if there's any impact on numbers.

The interesting part is will anything practical have changed on the ground for those of us who work in schools or will we get a rehashed version of the July reopening document which essentially was wash your hands, cross your fingers and toes and please don't tell the class teacher if there is a case in their class.

It would be great if they would just announce what is happening with proposed dates so that people can organise their lives. Parents and Hildenborough need to know so that mentally they can start to prepare, schools need to know what it is that is expected of them to implement nt but also us teachers need to know so that we can stop amending and adapting lessons for the remote/online universe. I know people think we as a professiare bone lazy but as a whole we aren. Vast majority of us take pride in our jobs and role. Everything takes longer to plan and produce for remote.

If I'm back on the 1st I'd prefer to know so that I don't waste time planning and trying to get ahead next week while I have the time.

only change imo is that we will probably be advised to double mask, twice the magic.

I'm back on the 22nd with my MGLD class. We read through the document on our Zoom staff meeting. Exactly this, wash your hands, keep your distance etc... The only change I could see was that we now have to wear a certain mask, N something or the other. Our Principal said she will try to get them for us before next week.

I'm looking forward to going back, can't wait to see my little kiddies! Still very nervous of it all though.

I think teachers should be supplied with FPP2 masks. They look ridiculous, however they do offer some protection.

Yes that I know of officially but like you we had informal groups and that Facebook page that was sharing info and none were notified in our school that I’m aware of.
I am happy to send my child back to senior infants and if it’s open from 1st or March I’ll be sending them. As I said I’m happy with how our school is handling things.

Very important that a small Home Counties village is informed when Irish schools are reopening:confused:

All news pages on Facebook seem to be carrying a reopening on the 1st of March. Why can't they just come out officially and say what's happening?

Valved respirator masks only protect the wearer and don't filter their exhaled air.

They can always wear a surgical mask over a valved respirator but for convenience, comfort and cost a non valved respirator would make more sense.

What about a medical mask and a cloth mask over it ?

Does anyone think that the Government are playing for time by not announcing a plan with dates for Schools to reopen in phases? As in they are watching the numbers before making a decision?

I thought that I read about NPHET saying that it is not time yet for Schools to fully reopen.

Personally, I think that the numbers are still too high. We seem to have plateaued around the 1,000 per day mark.

This is sort of a mute argument as doctors, nurses, supermarket workers etc have had to figure this out for months now. If you have small kids they are supposed to be able to go to creche but not sure what would happen if you don't use a creche. But you could bubble with another family for childcare purposes before so I'm sure that will be on the table again.

I don’t think we can use the childcare argument when we have castigated others for using schools as childcare
We will have to do what other essential workers have done . Take leave if necessary for that short period of time seems to be the advice from unions

You'd have to wonder what is going on behind closed doors? I'd rather stay closed for another week or 2 than go back and have to close again! But common sense is in short supply these days.

I don’t think too many of those 66 are in the school going population; they should tell us as it would help put our minds at rest

How does it work for everyone else who doesn't work from home?

If you find out let me know!
