Looks like a slight change in tone looking at the HSE press conference. Even George Lee was getting a bit worked up over the slow roll out of the vaccine and complete lack of detail.

A reporter asked Dr Henry "how do you expect public buyin for lockdown till Easter?" The answer was pure waffle, something something , fastest decreasing figures in europe, waffle waffle, international experience, more waffle.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

The ability to continue to borrow tens of billions of euros will not remain an option. It is very easy for a politician to dodge making hard decisions by throwing taxpayers money at a problem, even easier to throw borrowed money at it.

The economy is being kept artificially alive by indebting future generations - the sooner politicians are prevented from mortgaging our kids and grandkids futures the sooner people wake up to the cost of this hysterical nonsense, the better.

At this stage, it seems like the only wake-up call that will bring an end to this stupidity.

I agree. The government does not see the need to overhaul nphet and so will follow their advice. Therefore the only scenario is that the virus transmission drop either naturally or thanks to a vaccine, or the money printing stops, whichever comes sooner.

”Where’s the revolution? Come on, people you’re letting me down!”

It might feel like its pissing in the wind but if enough people send an email to our leaders they just might sit up and take note.

Ive gotten back 9 emails so far that are basically "thank you-now go away" replies.

In other words dont be annoying us.

Now heres how I see it - if there was a few thousand emails like mine all sent within a couple of days of each other or if it was an election year you can bet the tone would be completely different.

My response was something to that effect as in I dont have a short memory and an election is only 4 years away and please dont contact me then when you are looking for my support.

Only 12,000 doses going to GP's for the over 70's next week and these Yahoo's want us to believe they'll have the over 70's done by mid May.

One email a day from each of us until they crack. Bit like Shawshank Redemption.

Absolutely correct, we have no choice here but to take it.

Protest is banned. Those that did, before protest was banned, are not people I would want to be associated with.

Personally I think there are only 2 ways out of this:-

    1) Convince enough people that the current approach is the wrong one and hope that public opinion forces a change.
    2) Wait until the likes of Germany change tack and/or the money is cut off.

I think it will be the latter that happens.

I think we can all see with our own eyes the spread that has happened and can happen in bar and restaurant settings so fair enough not reopening them.

I've seen zero data that hairdressers or gyms as examples are increasing spread by a huge amount. If thats there, then they should publish it. If not, open them up once cases start dropping past 500 on 5 or 7 day averages.

See that's the problem no industry thinks they are part of the problem.

Try get a quote from just one sector who hold their hands up or who think they are not part of the problem. You won't.

So, in the first week of gps using a new vaccine, they're going with a smaller number as a controlled test? Makes perfect sense.

I really don't care what they do as long as they don't bleat about people rolling over and taking it, whilst at the same time, rolling over and taking it themselves. Lead the charge if they feel so strongly about it. Start the revolution. Or sit behind a screen and complain about others not doing anything and try to sound surprised about it...even though they are one of the people they are describing.

I seen the clarification from Paul Reid after he gave those figures that it will ramp up to 40,000 per week after that. So roughly 13 weeks to get 500,000 done if everything goes to plan.

Ah Pen, come on, people are using a message board to somewhat vent. It can be quite cathartic for some. What harm are they doing by posting their feelings here?
I get your point what what does it achieve to continually point this out?

I don’t get posters who do that

Its ranting online about people ranting online and not seeing the irony

We'll also roll into q2 during that, so you could potentially see that number increase as well. Plus the AZ vaccinations happening in parallel.

We're going to have a much clearer picture painted over the next 2 months.

Fair enough. Vent away. A bit of self awareness wouldn't go amiss though. I'm pointing out the irony of people complaining about other people doing nothing whilst they, themselves, do nothing.
EDIT - I'm not doing nothing though. I'm calling people out on it.

I got 1 so far reply saying the vaccine rollout was great and ignoring all my other points.
Seemed to be a standard draft for people complaining.

I have written to my TDs - all 5 and twice - the responses were disheartening.
It was all PR blurb in response and none actually addresses my points. You know the score - specific questions , generalised answers.
Darragh O'Brien FF did (and was only one) say he would take my concerns to the minister.

I went to a protest - was poorly attended I'll admit.
I'll go again soon if one is on - I have avoided ones organised by Gemma or the NP types (accepting they aren't the same groups) - I may reconsider that. This issue is too important for optics.

What more can should I do you gain your appreciation or least escape your scorn? Drive a bulldozer into a police station or Dail? Like that dude in the states...I have access to one...Id have to buy it though.

Can I say from the dock - I did it for a guy on the internet called Penfailed whom I never met ?:pac:

That isn't true Penfailed. Many of us are enduring it but we're not accepting it. Big difference between "endure" and "accept."

I mean what do you expect us to do? Bring the wrath of the law on ourselves and our families? We are all just ordinary joes trying to do the best we can, trying to earn a living [the lucky ones] and live our lives. We elect leaders to lead and to lead in a fair, balanced and democratic way. So we expect all interests to be represented in open, public debate but there is none. Absolutely none. Didn't MM tell his backbenchers not to be coming to him pleading for different sectors. In other words not to bother representing the interests of their constituents who put them in office! Do you not find that astounding. I certainly do.

And yes we are complaining here but personally I've been on to all my TDs, one of whom is a Govt minister and I've left them in no doubt about what I want. And several posters here have done likewise. Without an organised movement of protest /resistance there is little we can do and it's extremely frustrating.

But to say that we're rolling over is misrepresenting the many anti restriction arguments and I think you know that.

Thank you for taking the time to give a full reply. I really do appreciate that there's very little that can be done (legally) other than lobby your elected representatives. I suppose I was venting my frustration too. I'm not happy with the way things are currently panning out...but I'm not unhappy enough to do anything about it either. Even if I was, what's to be done anyway (as you rightly say)? I don't think it does anyone any favours to be calling people 'meek' and 'accepting' and 'rolling over' when there's really nothing that anyone can do. Small pockets of civil disobedience would be stamped out in no time and I really don't think there's a big enough cohort out there that could be galvanised to do something substantial.

I got the standard acknowledgments from a few, the usual thanks for your email, lots of emails being sent, big volume and so on and then 2 saying they will bring my concerns to the attention of the deputy. (sure) I expect nothing back in terms of a coherent reply to the points I raised nor do I think they will take them on board.

I also, like you, highlighted my memory is long and if they do darken my door step come election time they will be very shortly told to leave. There will be no pretence, pandering to their feelings. I will treat them in the same fashion they are treating people now.

I have zero issue with emailing on a daily basis to express my displeasure with the omnishambles they are making of this nor letting them know what exactly they are doing to peoples lives. I may not be able to bring a big spotlight to shine on their failings but by god I will try my best.

Eventually we have to stop this. I didn't vote for these restrictions, did you?

We have been effectively under home arrest for almost a year.

I really don't think it will end until we all take to the streets.

I take to the street every night with Fido.

He's very good at the old protesting, especially if it's a cold wet night and he wants to stay in by the fire.

You're right in a lot of what you say but what you're touching on unwittingly [see emboldened] is another facet of irishness, apathy and defeatism. How many times in so many situations have we seen our fellow Irish literally shrug up the shoulders with a verbal rhetorical "Shur what can you do!" It's so quintessentially Irish and it's a contagious cop out. Contagious because the defeatism infects us all and people put up and shut up. But it doesn't have to be like that. There are always alternatives and they don't have to be illegal. A Dutch friend told me that during the riots there, what we didn't hear about were the peaceful protests in Amsterdam demanding a relaxation. Peaceful protests have always been effective but somehow we're too apathetic, too defeatist, too lazy, too stupid [and I include myself there] too subservient [I don't include myself] or even too outside the law a la running your own shebeen brigade, to ever effectively challenge authority.

I don't have the answer but defeatism and apathy never got anybody anywhere.
