No, I want you to provide evidence of the pubs, hair dressers and other services that are open and doing business.

    Pictures or video will suffice.

    Yeah a disgraceful decisions

Im betting it will only be the hotels/food pubs with the €9 food rule, time limit and 11pm last orders. Non food pubs will be once again told 'no lads not yet, not yet'. That 15max outdoor bollocks could also make return

I’m guessing poor standards in our hospitals or care homes. I’ll be going to a country more than likely a lot safer than Ireland with outdoor healthy living. I’ll take a test if necessary before and after. But I’m getting out of here this summer that’s for sure.

Any this covid blaming culture? WTF is that!

    Well said

I am just very relieved that the opinions expressed are fortunately only a vocal minority, but that's the problem, in another place that DOES have a good tracing system, 2 people who broke the lockdown rules and visited a rural village for a shooting weekend recently were directly responsible for over 30 cases in that village.

Unfortunately, there are too many people who's attitude is that it's always someone else that caused the problem, and the number of people who will deny that they have any personal responsibilty for Covid spread is sickening.

It would be so easy if the visible symptoms of Covid were something like skin going bright pink, or a rash that made it very easy to identify people with the disease, I'm sure that there would be a very different attitude to avoidance if it was instantly visible who had it, but Covid isn't cooperating, and for quite a few cases, there is no indication that the carrier has it.

The only redeeming feature of this pandemic is that some of the dire death numbers that were being put about in the early days have not happened, but even with our health services not overwhelmed, and "only" under severe pressure, there's been more deaths this month than there were in the previous 9 months, and that's ONLY Covid related deaths, I don't want to think what the numbers of TOTAL deaths would be if the health services were to be overwhelmed by the number of cases of all sorts that present on a daily basis, and that's what the restrictions are trying to prevent.

Government's strong recommendation is STAY AT HOME. Is that really so hard for people to recognise and accept? The average life span in this country is now just over 82 Years. Is the loss of some freedoms for 1 of those years such a big imposition?

If it is, then there's something very wrong in the way that we are teaching and bringing up our younger generations, and it will come back to haunt us at some stage if it continues.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Tony now saying the lockdown isn't working as well as it should, hmm didn't he say the same about the previous level 5? That the cases didn't reach the projected target?
Surely he can't be so out of touch to expect mass compliance after nearly a year of 'living' like this? People are fatigued, you can see it everywhere be it the multiple shebeens/house parties/gatherings, hundreds of 5km rule breachers etc....

How do we flatten the influenza virus every year, you know the virus that jams up our hospitals, filling our ICUs every winter?

The flu virus circulates all year round as well...but we don't chase those cases, covid is behaving the same way....it is the state of our collective immune systems that determine how this behaves, these kinds of viruses run rampant in winter time, just like the flu, which we get every year without fail, in two surges typically, that last about 6 weeks each.

And just because I made a comparison to the flu does not mean I say it has the same impact the flu has, clearly this virus is a nasty infection for some people...and for that reason some of the restrictions make sense.

The only steps I have taken is away from the media, because the government has used fear as a means of controlling us, people who have succumbed to fear have abandoned logic and reason.

we flatten it via the flue vaccine, which, while it won't stop every case, means cases are a lot lower then they would be without it, not to mention flue doesn't have the same amount of contagen as covid and thus doesn't spread as much and as quick.
the government hasn't used fear as a means of anything, suggesting they have is fantasy.
what they have absolutely done, is use facts to inform people of the reality on the ground, and that in turn has caused most people to face reality and abide by what we are being asked to do, which is the correct approach.

The problem is at your end, certainly not mine. You have no business questioning what others are doing. That's the entire point, people need to take responsibility for their own actions and not for what others are doing. These draconian measures should only ever be used as a very last resort. With the huge spike in numbers we warranted a short sharp lockdown to get it back to a containment strategy. It shouldn't be used for months on end with no assurances of when it will end or when the extraordinary powers given to the Garda will lapse.

A loss of freedom for one day should be seen a very big deal, for a year it should require exceptional circumstances. The way the young are being treated during this pandemic and the previous recession shows that the older generations have well and truly pulled the ladder up after themselves and couldn't give a damn once their needs are met.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

There will be plenty of great businesses ripe for a takeover at rock bottom price and negative interest rates. For the big boys that is...

I just cannot believe how this is allowed, and more importantly why those business owners are not out on the streets yet. It is the last call to do so now. Their livelihoods will be wiped out. The wealth of the middle class will be up for grabs.

The flu vaccine is distributed in Sept, before Flu season...and we still see two surges every winter, so the flu curve is flattened all by itself, the vaccine mitigates the damage it does to the vulnerable during those two surges.

This virus is behaving like a flu virus.

There were three important factors that paint a picture last March/April.

The median age of people who died.
The percentage of people who died that had comorbidities
The fact that very few people in Supermarkets (which were the only premises that were open) were infected...so how is it highly transmissible?

IF you don't recognise that the government are using fear as a tool to control us, then you are getting sucked into that fear...it's been all over media, all stations, all the time, non stop for nearly a year, that is fear...that is why there are people who are afraid to leave their homes, indeed some elderly people will never leave their homes again.

There was no need for daily figures back between May - Sept, but yet that's what we got....day in day out.

In terms of deaths and ICUs we have had two surges, these are the metrics that matter.

If there was a serious pandemic that threatened the majority of us, they'd be trying to calm us down.

Couldn't agree more. This was very evident in recent reports that the over 50s have rushed to book holidays this summer after the vaccine rollouts.
TUI, the UK's largest tour operator, says 50% of bookings on their website are currently by over-50s.

National Express's coach holiday businesses say bookings made by those 65 and over have increased by 185% in the last fortnight compared to last year.

Now I don't really care if they do, but its a bit rich that we've spent a year under numerous lockdowns and restrictions to protect this age group, who immediately go, "seeya later" to everyone else behind them in the queue.

I often wonder if this virus targeted young people more, would older people have given up a year of their lives. I'm not sure they would.

If someone drives the wrong way down a motorway, then I have every right to question what they are doing, and if I see someone doing it, and don't report it, then I am culpable for what may happen, even though I am not personally doing anything wrong. Me doing nothing in that case could result in the deaths of others who were doing nothing wrong.

If I am affected by the actions of another person who is acting in direct contravention to the requirements that have been laid down relating to Covid, then I have every right to question their actions.

With the surge that happened as a result of the December release, there is no way that a short sharp lockdown is going to restore the status quo ante, the numbers that it has already spread to, and the ongoing spread that hasn't been stopped yet means that the present lockdown is likely to continue for at least another month, almost certainly longer, depending on how many house parties and sheebeen gatherings take place in the meantime.

Covid is exceptional circumstances, there has not been a worldwide pandemic like it for close on a century. Society has changed so much in that 100 years, and the way it's changed has meant that an event that would have only affected other countries over a long period of time because of the delays in travel are now capable of affecting whole continents in a matter of hours, so the spread of Covid happened in a very different timescale to any of the previous pandemics that are recorded. The specialists responsible for pandemic management have all been caught unaware and not ready by a number of aspects of how Covid developed and spread, and there's no doubting that they are not fully in control of what's happening right now, because of the lack of knowledge and experience.

Why do you think the older generations have pulled up the ladder on the younger generations? I'm not seeing anything so discriminatory in what's been done so far, so you're going to have to explain that thought in a bit more detail.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

it's not behaving like a flue virus, it spreads harder and quicker then flue, even when controlled, which doesn't negate against the fact it still needs to be controlled via restrictions.
covid is not flue, there is no comparison, no amount of phrasing points will change the fact covid is not flue.
understanding that an alternative fact and or theory is not true is just recognising a reality, it is not being dragged into anything.
the fact is the government aren't using fear to do anything, but are using facts to bring home the reality of what can happen if the virus is not controlled, what has been over the media for the past year is facts and nothing else.
nothing wrong with daily figures, they are of interest to some, those who aren't interested could avoid them.
