Will we have thousands of more people on the move on Thursday?

Yes. And if we all do our part, we might just finally push the health service over the edge!

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

The big issue will be hospital and ICU capacity. Because our numbers got so high, hospitals will be under severe pressure for some weeks. It will be too risky to re-open schools until mid to late February.

Norma will have schools open start of February, this push for special schools this week is the opening move for it.

Oh not with teachers no, definitely not but I reckon it's something they can parrot to the public. "Teachers have received extensive training on revised Covid safety measures..." Yadda yadda. Box ticked.

They can tick the box that they covered the public health guidance that the INTO demanded.

I can't help thinking of the poor Voice for Teacher admins wading through all the post requests that must've hit them after that shítshow of a webinar.

Two of them would have been at the CEC meeting as well.

Because if so is that not exactly the opposite of what we are about to do?

best of luck to everyone going back in to school risking their very lives on thursday

hopefully students will all be wearing masks and safely distancing at all times - this is too serious to get sick from:

Almost 30% of Covid patients in England readmitted to hospital after discharge – study

Readmission rate for Covid patients 3.5 times greater, and death rate seven times higher, than for other hospital patients

Nearly a third of people who were discharged from hospitals in England after being treated for Covid-19 were readmitted within five months – and almost one in eight died, a study suggests.

The research, which is still to be peer-reviewed, also found a higher risk of problems developing in a range of organs after hospital discharge in those younger than 70 and ethnic minority individuals

“There’s been so much talk about all these people dying from Covid … but death is not the only outcome that matters,” said Dr Charlotte Summers, a lecturer in intensive care medicine at the University of Cambridge who was not involved in this study.

Leaving aside teachers for the moment, every worker in country has a vested interest on the lockdown situation.
Public sector workers are happy to continue as it is because they are working from home and have job security.
Certain private sector employees are either unemployed or employments are uncertain so they want everything open.
And they want kids back at school to improve their education and get rid of them from under their feet.
Real concern for the health service is not the actual concern for either group.

Obviously this does not apply for everyone, but a large section.

I'm pretty sure that was in relation to full school re-opening, not the partial re-opening on Thursday.

It's cut off, you don't hear his full point. I'm open to correction but that's what I got from it.

Just looked back at the YouTube webinar for the craic.

    77 likes, 1,000+ dislikes.

If that doesn't show the mood of the INTO members at present then I don't know what does. Hope John Boyle is drowning in a sea of emails.

I think it’s fairly obvious what NPHET think
If they just come right out and say it then Norma can save face and blame them

They were flying in so fast it was impossible to keep up with them. But the message was crystal clear. People do not feel safe.

ETA: Nor do they think the kids in their care will be safe.

Both opinions are ones they are not capable of forming. Their training, expertise, and experience does not lie in the realm of disease transmission risk assessment.

Next to the like/dislike buttons you should see a Live Chat option. This should open the live chat replay for you. Skip forward a little bit to see the fury in full force :pac:

But yes, they're running scared imo. Don't think this backlash was expected.

We have 7 children in our mainstream school who would meet the criteria for a return on Thursday. Principal has rang the parents of all 7 and 6 have confirmed they definitely won't be sending their kid in. The remaining one won't either when they realise that the other 6 aren't.

Now here is the issue. Principal is having a bit of a powerplay and is still insisting that the full SET team and all SNA's are to present to the school building for work on Thursday unless the whole thing is shelved. 99% sure they will have ZERO children in the building. Absolutely stupid attitude. Sure fire way to continue eroding staff morale.

Your principal is obviously extremely compliant and following the instruction in the letter rigidly. Some teachers, unfortunately, are unable to make an independent decision. The DES decision already divides staffs and school communities. A principal doubling down exacerbates the situation.
