Yes, chat is disabled. You can only post questions but I don't think mine have been addressed.

They said you should be able to post questions on the youtube stream but all I see is the chat on there and it's rolling so fast I can't read anything anyone says.

I'd hardly call it "live-streamed" more like recorded at arm's length (or social distanced) since they're answering issues in generalities.

This is an insult to the intelligence of school staff.

A complete and utter waste of time. Fail to see who it has benefitted.

Norma Foley's and John Boyles respective spin teams.

I don't even think they'll have benefitted from this; seems to have made it worse if anything.
That closing remark was incredibly patronising.

    So what happens now ?
Will we have thousands of more people on the move on Thursday?

Oh not with teachers no, definitely not but I reckon it's something they can parrot to the public. "Teachers have received extensive training on revised Covid safety measures..." Yadda yadda. Box ticked.

So a patronising webinair that didn't address any concerns of staff?

Basically a whitewash of SCHOOLS ARE SAFE, DON'T ASK LOGICAL QUESTIONS!

At least Dr Kevin is proud of us

That was the closest I came to throwing my laptop on the ground.

He is clearly very proud of himself and his team from the comfort and safety of his sitting room.

I threw up in my mouth listening to him at the end

Though it wouldnt be a DES event without the proverbial pat on the head

All this country's government seems to serve up to its people is a continuous platter of disgraceful behaviour. I can hardly believe the situation we find ourselves in at this moment. But, see my first point.

Will schools actually open up at this rate?

There seems to be serious backlash. That webinar has not helped things.

I can't see it at this stage and if they do reopen, there will be a huge amount of staff off.

I can't help thinking of the poor Voice for Teacher admins wading through all the post requests that must've hit them after that shítshow of a webinar.

Thank you History Queen. Gosh I think I'm even more concerned now! You mentioned that even on a normal year, the course wouldn't be covered by now in most subjects. So, not only has my daughter to make up the 3 months from last year, she has to add to that all the course material that is yet to be covered for this year. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming teachers, but it's a fact that my daughter had one live lesson most days in the last lockdown. Some days there were none. I know things are much more organized this time around, but yes I would have to say that she does indeed have an awful lot of the curriculum yet to cover. I don't know what the answer is. I can see your point about the unfairness in the predicted grades if one teacher has given 6 tests and the teacher next door has only given one. However, I think there's a similar unfairness attached to the written exam, in that some students have had a lot of tuition whereas many have been left wanting. It's a mess whatever way we look at it I think!

Also worth remembering that many teachers who graded according to Department standards got badly burnt last summer. Many gave realistic grades and then saw their students heavily marked down. They won't be willing to do that again - if I worked in secondary I know I'd be bumping them all up!

    Such a mess.

I think that webinar broke the back of all the staff in my school. Not sure why like did anyone actually expect them to change the narrative now?

What was the actual purpose of the web thing. Was it to inform, to instruct, to encourage, to give comfort ? Judging by the comments, it didn't succeed.

When I heard that questions had to be sent in advance I was like, this isn’t a webinar, this is a lecture and will be a complete waste of time

cases under 2000 today, on track to be near 1000 by the start of February.
Schools were open with similar figures.

Test and trace hadn't collapsed though. Hard to take the case numbers seriously when test and trace has collapsed and the consequent limited testing now taking place.

    Weren't they just over 2,000? 2,121

Remember close contact tracing and testing isn't happening. The real numbers are far higher, and what is happening in the hospitals matters most does it not.

The big issue will be hospital and ICU capacity. Because our numbers got so high, hospitals will be under severe pressure for some weeks. It will be too risky to re-open schools until mid to late February.

I refuse to do it again this year because
    A. I have no big tests to base it on, just small tests mainly in class and one of 90 mis.
    B. I graded accurately, no need to mark down but when I saw what others gave the same students I realized I should have marked up...mine were way lower than others !! Far too May teachers gave unrealistic high grades.
