With cases falling daily, bringing back children this week on a phased basis, and hopefully cases will continue to fall daily, will be encouraging and will prove the decision is correct.
However if the cases stagnate or increase with schools returning this week, then it might have to be looked at again.

Numbers are falling as many close contacts aren’t being tested .

thats just a sht show or receipe for disaster waiting to happen .. how many more deaths and sick people we would have in this country if schools all in this week .. incredible.. 60 deaths today alone and hospitals buckling with pressure

According to The Sunday Times, Norma wants to bring Leaving Certs back on February 1 with the other years coming back on a phased basis. No mention of primary.

How schools will organise this will be interesting. Some people could travel 2 hrs a day to teach 1 hr on site if not organised properly.

As predicted when the initial 3 day closure was announced
They should have spent the month planning on how this will actually work rather than trying to ramrod unworkable “plans” through at short notice
It will still be very difficult to implement but at least if they take the time to consult properly we can all work together to make it happen.
If this is the plan then let’s get on with it together

I honestly don't see 6th years as a whole accepting going back into overcrowded classrooms if numbers are not very low. Their union is fairly vocal and at all stakeholder meetings.

Most logical thing would be all teachers come in and teach classes in person and online from the school
S and s rota will have to operate so not much else that can be done

Lack of childcare is an issue but not one that can be used to stop this happening as other sectors face the same problem as pointed out by many in the thread .
Not sure what will happen with primary schools ......

According to The Mail , primary schools back on February 22 and everyone else except some debate about Leaving Certs

I'd rather block classes and get out to continue online classes from home as I've kids to mind. Everyone's situation will be different.

As regards S&S, just cover if youre there for a break, sticking to usual S&S would bring teachers who might have no LCs out to school- no need for extra bodies

Block classes means the other year groups miss out on their classes
Rearranging the whole school timetable and s and s for two weeks?

Our management had started to organise a LC timetable to remove PE and Religion before Norma changed her mind the last time

Our schools broadband simply won’t stand up to this. I’m very high risk working from home, it couldn’t even reliably project me on the board for the class never mind 50 odd teachers simultaneously trying to stream out to homes

Considering 60 people died yesterday that would be beyond idiotic...... Sounds like something Norma would do

Seed has already been planted in the 6th years. They think they can get it called off if they shout enough. I neither agree nor disagree but there's a considerable cohort ready to go with "remote teaching didn't suit me I lost x amount of schooling and I wanted to do medicine" out there. They want predicted, just like Cok wanted lasted year. Every day schools are closed, that increases the pressure on "Norma of the no contingency planning",.that's why she is so eager. They already had a high court case, though I didn't hear how that finished, if someone wants to link it.

You just need your roll number.
I’ve never before felt the need to contact my CEC rep on any issue. I was far from happy with many INTO actions but this is on a different level. John Boyle is out of touch with the membership.

Thanks for that. Emails sent this morning.
I encourage all teachers to do the same.

The INTO are spineless. If they proceed with this reopening order from Foley I am leaving. I'll not be contributing to their salaries or that bullshít magazine they send out anymore.

    Mod

Can we drop the 'Fringey' jokes.

This is a schools thread, no need to act like children too.

I’ve never been as wrecked after a week’s work. Finding my feet with online teaching. Discovered a screen recorder app that’s becoming my best friend. Feedback from half my parents is very positive (I know it’s early days) while I haven’t heard from the other half. I can see on Seesaw that they are accessing the site so here’s hoping ... I included a yoga lesson on Friday and some of the parents sent in clips of the family joining in. Hilarious

What screen recorder app are you using?

I'm using loom and I'm wondering how the hell did I do anything during thr March-June period without it. Total and utter game changer.

Do schools actually do religion in 6th year?

    Yep

Christ. That's wrong at the best of times, but this school year it shouldn't have been on the curriculum since September to free up time for other subjects.

Behind a payroll but the introduction mentions trying to get leaving certs back by February 1st.

I'm primary but I believe it's an exam subject for some.

Catholic schools don’t have a choice as their trustee may insist on it

Does religion fit under the wellness and well-being BS as well?

Some schools have it as an exam. Other schools have been having 6th year RE online and doing yoga with a hired external person or had motivational speakers to encourage them to keep with their studies., etc.

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

My LC son says they have great craic in Religion. It's where they get to debate topical issues and express their opinions. Not sure if that's the norm in other schools.
