Mater Private said this evening that it would "allocate part of its existing capacity to the HSE" to help deal with the crisis.

The Reproductive number of the virus this week is between 2.4 and 3. Don't go out unless its for essential groceries, you'll surely get it.

First restrictions were introduced 2 weeks today. We can only hope that some people paused to think in respect to Christmas plans. Gastro Pubs (especially) and restaurants closed.

Second set of restrictions are 1 week ago today which shut down non essential retail and no household mixing. Schools did not start back this week as planned.

Third set of restrictions from tomorrow will be close construction abs schools out until end Month.

One would hope that the curve will start to flatten.

Growth rate is between 12-14% per day

Who's actually getting this? When a significant majority are at home and restrictions in place.

Not everybody is at home..! Lots of people still work with many others daily in essential services. Hospitals will always remain a huge source of spread no matter what kind of lockdown there is, the people who visit them and go home will spread it. Same with nursing homes and any closed facility. I guess rule breakers probably contributing a bit but probably not nearly as much as some people claim.

Pretty sure signing on in person has been suspended since last March, most of the local social welfare offices have gone appointment only

I have to collect my mother's pension and they've been back to signing in for the last few months. Mind boggling.

While it won't account for all of them, 19-24 year olds tend to work in retail/supermarkets, etc so they're probably more exposed than the age-bracket for working at home.

They moved on some time ago. At that age the primal urges are strongest. Somewhere in the back of their mind is a message that says it's my world now old person. It's nature.

I find cannabis would be a much better option in terms of being more aware.

Have you been to Tallaght, Ringsend or Ballymun recently? Either they have unfeasibly big family bubbles there or it's not housemates and family.

Why is it taking so long to roll out the vaccine in Ireland?

    1st 9 days - 15,000 vaccinated

Next 3 days (by the end of this week) - they claim a further 20,000 will be vaccinated!!

5% of population vaccinated by end of Q1..... so unless we really honour game (and get a significant increase in the amount of vaccine we get) , we are looking at being around 20% at years end.... so 5 years for the entire population.......

Sweet mother of Jesus, this has been asked and answered a billion times already.

Worst case estimate of between 2,500 and 5,000 cases per day by the end of January and best case between 1,100 and 2,900 per day.

A&E tends to be filled with people who have had accidents or emergencies.

Considering the majority of the country isnt leaving their house it pretty much reduces accidents and emergencies.

No sporting injuries because sports are cancelled.

Greatly reduced car accidents, workplace accidents, slips trips and falls because people are not moving like before.

    Isnt that fairly obvious???

It's weird, it's almost like the government are asking people to only make essential journeys, even though everyone knows you can't get injured when hiking on your own up the mountains...

Reporting of cases “has caught up” with positive lab results. Backlog clear.

I find this very hard to believe - 8K positive swabs don't just go missing. I wouldn't be surprised to see this report changed.

Good point. But I don't think we've really heard much to suggest that retail workers/supermarket staff are catching this in great numbers?

After 4 weeks lockdown I woud have thought cases would be a lot lower than that in the best case scenario, like I would have thought the same numbers at the end of the last lockdown were feasible. Any reason given why best case was so high?
