I thought that was the case in October but I wouldn't split hairs over it this time the way the numbers have gone.

I'd agree. That and use payment by electronic funds transfer where possible and preferred by clients. Not sure how often one has to sign-on in person but they should also consider virtual sign-on on line. Having people queueing for a service in current circumstances makes no sense.

It's more a matter for the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection than for An Post though.

Pretty sure signing on in person has been suspended since last March, most of the local social welfare offices have gone appointment only

How on earth are they clear?

    Struggling to understand that

Perhaps a lot were double swabs etc.

Simple I suppose if you make around 9000 positive swabs disappear.

    learned that from the chinese

Growth rate is between 12-14% per day

Who's actually getting this? When a significant majority are at home and restrictions in place.

    9000 of them?

    Seems unlikely.

Good thing the backlog is clear, hopefully it will mean a drop in the large daily case numbers that have been reported over the last few days.

Unfortunately, it's only in the last 3 days we have seen cases > swabs, and not single day had a difference >1,000.

Swabs in the last few days have been in the region of 6,000 so it wont be a sharp jump down, unless testing has changed massively and they're retesting like mad, which I can't see

Yep . Panic stations . Banning house visits and closing pubs and restaurants has and will always work

    Yet we should down everything

Variant must be fairly rampant if even travellers arriving back from here managed to contract it

The Reproductive number of the virus this week is between 2.4 and 3. Don't go out unless its for essential groceries, you'll surely get it.

    They don’t tend to give a boll0x.

Remember this in Dec from Tony?

They are leading the way alright.

Remember thinking that was either patronising shiite, naive in the extreme or stupid at the time.

There is no way that restrictions announced yesterday are taking effect today.

People infected over Xmas are infecting their “mandatory contacts” (such as housemates or families). These cases should start to top out over the next few days and go into sharp decline then.

spreading within families is probably a big reason. (Dad picks it up ) rest of family get it over the next week to 10 days. Im really hoping in about two week the numbers start to fall off a cliff.

Still being kicked around households of those infected over xmas and new years I'd guess.

Friend of mine got a positive test today after visiting family on new years, his 3 housemates are yet to be tested. Likely to dwindle down slowly.

should be assuming most of this surge has come from the "Irish spectacularly failed the Christmas Covid experiment"

Would they be the same group that socialise with the 18 year olds in 6th year that are going back to school on Monday?

While it won't account for all of them, 19-24 year olds tend to work in retail/supermarkets, etc so they're probably more exposed than the age-bracket for working at home.
