Just no. It will never happen and should never happen.

It comes down to personal responsibility and people need to get people in line if they are sharing a space with someone not complying.

Absolutely nobody should be blamed for the relaxation of restrictions.

The case rate of about 200-300 per day, coupled with low hospitalisation and ICU admissions indicated a reasonable prospect of opening up certain activities to give the economy a bit of a boost and allow some family socialising, with caution.

What is clear, is that the Irish people were personally very responsible in the First Wave of this pandemic in March to May, but that when it came to Christmas, basically nobody gave a flying **** about any of the advice (time limiting, number of visitors limiting, use of masks and sanitisation ation in the home, ventilation of homes etc) and that for these wildfire numbers, likely to peak at under 10,000 per day in the next while, hundreds of thousands if not millions of homes just said **** it and did what they do every Christmas.

Its not the fault of Micheal Martin or Varadkar or Donnelly or Tony Holohan or journalists or academics or Michael O'Leary or anyone else.

This is 90% original variant transmission. Its OUR fault as a people. OURS. And we now pay the consequences with a lost 6 weeks as we enter 2021. Its as simple as that.

Not my fault ! And am pretty sure it is not the fault of the majority .
It only takes a few positive cases socialising to infect 100s so would be interesting to see the tracing of these infections/ clusters ....oh wait :(

In the end the government are accountable because they fvckedup by allowing everything open just to score points in the popularity stakes and with the lobbyists.
They were given clear warnings by NPHET about this .

I don't think those things involve almost any risk though. Construction on the other hand... and what about all those people working in factories on conveyor belts? I know it's unavoidable with food, but with everything else? And hey, maybe not even all foods. I think we can do without cake if it lets people working in factories packaging cakes can stay home

I also don't think being outside while wearing a mask and keeping 2m from people is any risk whatsoever

The thing is people breaking existing rules and becoming superspreaders when they get the virus, and certain industries like manufacturing where you don't have a choice about being a super-spreader if you get the virus, no matter what you do

The government needs to get the finger out now. I'm not blaming them for this mess completely (it's mostly the fault of selfish people) but they need to forget about the countries finances at the moment and concentrate on stopping this spread.

I think we are facing a catastrophe in our hospitals in about 10 days time.

    Yer a loon!

Neil Ferguson of imperial college when approaching Boris Johnson about locking people up, couldn’t believe he actually agreed to it. Unfortunately, we didn’t go hard enough, and now the Chinese approach is the only way. I would release all current prisoners to make room in prisons for Covid offenders.

    Hilarious

Except for when you yourself need to get to the shops..

    You'll be fine

Although the shop probably won't be open what with all the staff held at gunpoint in their own homes..

    Tricky one.

Not sure you've thought it through enough.

Got an inch and took about 100 miles. This doesn't go for everybody of course.

There was public, media and political pressure to relax restrictions in December. The Grocery were put in a corner and had to make a decision. When things opened up people and business owners ignored all the social distancing and other guidance to follow in relation to house visits and requirements operating the business and here we are. We can't blame the Government for everything.

The backlog is confusing me. Why aren’t they just announcing them all at once and how are they deciding how many to announce in a day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,393 ✭✭✭ZX7R

In fairness loads of countries beat this thing. New Zealand, Mongolia, Vietnam, South Korea... and then there were countries who were beating it but got criticized by conspiracy theorists so shifted to Sweden style and got their ass kicked, like Czech Republic and Greece. Why did we have consultants from Sweden here advising our government, when they have one of the highest death rates per capita for this in the world and we are ranked at about 40 for deaths per capita? Why was the government aiming for more deaths?

Mongolia is 22 times the size of Ireland and populated by 3 million people . A third of the population is nomadic and haven't even heard of covid.
The rest of the settled population don't even have an official count of positive numbers.
I'd leave Mongolia off your list

Could you explain why you choose my post out of the thousands here to question

Presumably there hasn’t been anyone else pushing nonsense conspiracies in recent pages. Just a hunch...

Yep. I heard this from a reliable source also.
I take it China are developing their own vaccine(s)?
The Czech Republic declared they beat the virus and had a huge session on Charles bridge in Prague to celebrate.

the measures were hugely unpopular so the Czechs decided to go easy on the virus and let the death rate soar

You get the government you deserve. South Korea are doing really well because they don't have to deal with covidiots so the government can just do what's necessary to keep people healthy

Isn't it better to slam on the breaks now and then ease off them later than to gently slow down now only to find out it wasn't enough later?

No! God, no! When you are driving too fast towards a dangerous obstacle it is always best to keep on driving too fast for a wee while more and then apply the breaks, rather than apply the breaks in good time. Safe driving 101

Starvation is a small price to pay for getting Covid under control. Sure hasn’t the whole 3rd world been left to starve throughout this.

Dangerous for them though given people's unwillingness to cooperate in general. That's why we've 5000 cases a day now. They should be armed and visible, only if curfews are put in place.

40 dopes. Do they not realize they can paint the town red in a few months when this is gone. Doing this will ensure 2021 is a write off also.

Even if our hospitals get completely overwhelmed and RTE announces dozens or hundreds of deaths a day, the sad fact is that there is a certain portion of the population who still won't give a damn about the restrictions.

If you look at the measures they took I think they very much deserve to be on the list. They had individual screens (like what we have in supermarkets) to protect kids in school, for example. We could all learn a lot from Mongoila https://fsi.stanford.edu/news/lessons-mongolia%E2%80%99s-covid-19-containment-strategy

If there was justice in the world the club would be fined something massive and each attendee would also be fined.

    Swabs are positive tests.

Cases are positive tests that have been checked that they aren't duplicates and processed in the it system.

Look at the press conference from Thursday. Nolan explained it in depth then.

That is why enforcement is key. A small minority can cause significant damage!
