Jesus lads, it's looking pretty grim .... :(

I just hope death rate remains low and most cases are with young + healthy.

Time to really ramp up the vaccination programme - to the max.

Because they shut down a lot harder than we did and closed the borders.

That argument doesn’t make any sense. Covid is currently present in China. 1 Covid case will become thousands over time. They are not locked down and carrying on as normal. A severe lockdown and shutting the borders will not do anything if the virus remains present.

Absolutely nobody should be blamed for the relaxation of restrictions.

The case rate of about 200-300 per day, coupled with low hospitalisation and ICU admissions indicated a reasonable prospect of opening up certain activities to give the economy a bit of a boost and allow some family socialising, with caution.

What is clear, is that the Irish people were personally very responsible in the First Wave of this pandemic in March to May, but that when it came to Christmas, basically nobody gave a flying **** about any of the advice (time limiting, number of visitors limiting, use of masks and sanitisation ation in the home, ventilation of homes etc) and that for these wildfire numbers, likely to peak at under 10,000 per day in the next while, hundreds of thousands if not millions of homes just said **** it and did what they do every Christmas.

Its not the fault of Micheal Martin or Varadkar or Donnelly or Tony Holohan or journalists or academics or Michael O'Leary or anyone else.

This is 90% original variant transmission. Its OUR fault as a people. OURS. And we now pay the consequences with a lost 6 weeks as we enter 2021. Its as simple as that.

They can’t be serious about pushing ahead with the schools reopening. Poor teachers

I think they will bring in further restrictions before they will seriously consider closing schools, at least in the media.

I'm sure behind closed doors those in charge of deciding these things know that schools opening a week from now is looking unlikely, but it can take a while to acknowledge it in public. If a politician even gives a sniff to the media that they are thinking of doing it than the story gains legs immediately.

We are going to have 200 hospital admissions per day at this rate and it could get higher. People still don't realise how much of a tragedy this will be. Maybe 300 in one day. We need to set up field hospitals now

The other aspect is fatigue amongst our healthcare workers. The work is stressful, necessitating full concentration. It is traumatic for them dealing with the fall-out from the huge catastrophe. And there will be no break for them. They will have to then catch up on the huge backlog of the delayed cases.

What the f*ck are people actually doing? Licking each other's faces or what? I haven't been adhering that strictly, but as much as I can, I don't know any friends or family who got it, except my brother but he's in another country.

Anecdotally, I know of many people who were going to restaurants or visiting different houses practically every night of the week in the weeks before Christmas.

Lots of people seemed to have decided the didn't care anymore, or took the easing of restrictions as a carte blanche to do as much as possible.

People are ****ing idiots! My sisters OH, his mother and sister went for test last week and tested positive on Thursday. Just found out the brother and father were out working Friday and Saturday in peoples homes and said they don't need to self isolate cause "we are essential and feel grand"

Absolute idiocy of some people and he they should be ****ing locked up

Lots of UK home comers not isolating I think, we need to get bloody stricter at sea ports with ferries, NI border and airports

I think the schools and creches need to stay closed while in level 5

Lol accused of scaremongering by loads and then they somehow should have been able to predict how bad things would go and so even be more conservative in their advice? Talk about moving the goalposts

What restrictions can they add to the mix at this stage? a 2km limit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,853 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

I think restrictions will be in place past Patricks Day.

Yes, maybe not 6 + but pretty much . Hardly going to open for Valentine's, at this rate , and then less than 4 weeks later Paddy's Day .

NPHET were trying to warn people. Trying to tell them to be responsible.

But when Holohan said he was concerned at peoples behaviour you had the gombeens trying to turn it into a meme and believing Jim Corr that Hospitals are really empty.

Denmark with a similar population to ourselves yet we're way behind.

Surely with high numbers it should be a cause for urgency?

Announcements of high daily covid numbers cause panic and folks to feel down following the end of Christmas, no wonder they're not announcing daily numbers of vaccinations.

I think enforcement is the key. I think that they need to give the Gardaí more power.

This government will be remembered for ignoring public health advice and allowing one of the most social nations in the world to basically do what they want at Christmas during a global pandemic.

We are at the moment, the shame of Europe, pissing around with the vaccination (9 to 5 and starting three days late).

How much of these cases are backlog cases. Cases yesterday and day before v low compared to previous days.

We'll find out tomorrow when the swab numbers update again.

Hopefully there was at least some backlog included in today's numbers.

Philip Nolan has said these restrictions should suffice so NPHET aren't thinking of any further restrictions.

I personally don't see what else they can shut down, expect maybe Schools and Construction

Agree, schools are the only thing they have at the moment, they will push opening on 11th at any cost imo.

Seriously locking people up in cells wont work
    Gardai can do little
