If they announce 3500 cases today, there will be a backlog of around 8000 cases.

No, if they announce 3500 today it adds 1000 to the current 9000 backlog leaving the backlog at 10000.

They also seem to be couching the 3k figure to be announced today with "this includes a backlog" while ignoring that the actual numbers from today not including the backlog from the last few days would likely be much higher than 3k.

Remember when people on here used to say nphet skewed the numbers to makes out things were much worse than they were, now they cant even get the high numbers out.....

Up till this week I knew no one with Covid . Since yesterday I now have heard of 13 people who tested positive . These are all people who are careful and have only seen a few people . It is rampant out there and can only get worse . The close contacts are not being tested so it’s spreading out of control .

As I posted before , the nurse that comes to my mother on the 22nd December . Why wouldn't we have been contacted for close contact , we found out today she got it ?
Am I correct we have to isolate till Wednesday ?

My cousin and her young child have both tested positive, after her relative, awaiting test results, HID that they'd had a test and came to visit over Christmas despite being symptomatic.

People are shocking me daily with this.

    Yeah, probably!

I know people are trying to look at positives but I'd say we are 7-10 days away from a peak and hopefully then we can see a decrease in numbers. I dread to think what state the hospitals will be in by that stage though.

I also think what we are seeing at the moment with all the excuses basically amounts to lying. Not necessarily deliberately, but at the very least by ongoing negligence. And I also would not discount deliberation because it looks really bad for them in terms of management also.
The real time numbers are being manipulated in the way they are being presented now. Real time numbers are important for public information. It is perfectly possible for the health authorities to put a reasonably accurate figure on the actual daily figures of cases that are positive and give them out in the media, without all this IT/Excel/Systems/Staff bullcrap.
Just tell the daily figures correctly and don't treat us like children that have to be managed by a bureaucracy. Makes me cross this impenetrable artificial ceiling that has them supposedly hamstrung into obfuscation.

    First observation.

    Population of ROI 4,956,000

    Covid deaths 2,248 = .05%

Covid positive people since start 93,532 = 2%

The continual close down of both social and economic sectors seems to be OTT.
Why do they continue to lock down/ circuit break (call it what you will) This is surely a case of do the same thing and expect a different outcome.

    Second observation .....
Public transport with only 25% seat capacity allowed even with access to window ventilation, journey times probably approx 20 mins.
Airline transportation 70-80% seat capacity journey times 2+ hours.

    3rd
    Local population in regular restrictions
Travelers and tourists come and go as they please??

    Any thoughts?

    2020 wants your post back

    :pac:

Third lockdown down absolutely crazy, I went from hearing nobody having it to now nearly almost every family member being in close contact with someone that has it.

You only have to pull back the covers a little to see where peoples priorities are.

I've a few people close to me that I've seen act like absolute fvuking arseholes the last few weeks. In a way its good because it's made me think about some of the friendships I have going forward.

Hopefully the daily swab number has plateaued and will begin to decrease next week.
It's a small increase in positivity. But small is better than big :D

We could be starting to approach the peak now, which would be heralded by a slowdown in growth. But with two days of data it's a complete guess.

Today's number probably also still includes close contacts. If tomorrow's number contains very few close contacts then we will probably see positivity rates skyrocket.

So if it does, don't panic.

I know this question wasn't directed at me but anecdotally, out of the 5 recent clusters I heard about, four of those originated with people from England.

Isn't it :( To have gone for a test and have symptoms and then go and meet other people. I can understand almost anything regards other people but knowingly putting others at risk is absolutely dreadful.

I'm lucky enough to live in a very scenic part of Kerry. It's depressing the amount of people around to be honest. Now in a normal year it's common for holiday homes nearby to be occupied over Christmas and New Year's. Today I saw several UK reg cars staying nearby. There are lots of people from up the country. My wife met people in the local beach this morning that had arrived from Leinster on New Years Eve. Awhile ago two car loads of adults arrived to a house across the road from me.

The message is not getting through. Or is just being completely ignored. What's the F-ing point.
