    Swabs;
    4502 Positive
    21.87% Positivity rate
    20,586 tests total

4502 positive swabs and they're only announcing 3500 which apparently includes a backlog??? Seems like we have more cases that they can handle and they'll never get on top of it.

It' could well get to 5/6k cases a day before receeding. Bloody lockdown is gonna be for 2 months isn't it

Is there any way of looking at more detail of the hospital admissions?

    - Looking to see are they admitted because of Covid
    - What's the median age of those in hospital
    - How many have underlying conditions

I'd like to see the similar for ICU aswell

The present restrictions are going to be for nothing less than 6 weeks. The groundwork to prepare people was laid before we left the last 6 week period.

Eventually the numbers will drop, as in the previous lockdowns, and the system will catch up, they'll be reporting higher numbers than actual for a while as a result. No bad thing if it encourages compliance with the lockdown a bit longer. Hopefully we can get back to where we were before Christmas at least in the next few weeks.
The decision to remove the lockdown for so long in December was a monumental political blunder that's cost many people their lives and many others their health at least in the short term, but its done now, lets hope they have learned from it.

Yeah I don’t get why Nolan said we’d see 3,000-6,000 cases per day at peak, when we’ve already almost touched 6k positive tests.

Don't think that's ever been published

To what end though? The impact on the health services isn't affected by those factors, nor is the knock-on impact on other hospital services.

Has there been any agreement with the private hospitals to do something this time if needed?

    First observation.

    Population of ROI 4,956,000

    Covid deaths 2,248 = .05%

Covid positive people since start 93,532 = 2%

The continual close down of both social and economic sectors seems to be OTT.
Why do they continue to lock down/ circuit break (call it what you will) This is surely a case of do the same thing and expect a different outcome.

    Second observation .....
Public transport with only 25% seat capacity allowed even with access to window ventilation, journey times probably approx 20 mins.
Airline transportation 70-80% seat capacity journey times 2+ hours.

    3rd
    Local population in regular restrictions
Travelers and tourists come and go as they please??

    Any thoughts?

No, I mean last year. There were 366 days in 2020, each of them is now historical as they are part of a previous year not a current one. :)
And next week, will you also claim this week's cases are "historical" given that it was a week ago. Or that yesterday's cases are "historical" because they were a day ago?

The numbers tested positive does not equate to the numbers infected, that's a fact.

They also seem to be couching the 3k figure to be announced today with "this includes a backlog" while ignoring that the actual numbers from today not including the backlog from the last few days would likely be much higher than 3k.

People still don't believe we had 10,000+ cases a day in the spring :pac:

    Must have been insane then

Chinese scientists said Wuhan had an R0 of 6 pre lockdown there, it doubled every 2.5 days without restrictions

Our is not even an RO of 2 right now and it's everywhere

That 3000-ish to be announced won’t include swabs taken in the past 24 hours

    We’re days behind on reporting.

Might do 3k for a few days, and then 4k for a few days etc.

They run the risk of people seeing numbers increasing and thinking that lockdown isint working, so why bother limiting themselves.

I'd like them to start publishing hospital capacity percentage numbers too.

Spookwoman on here publishes the hospital data every evening, occupied and spare beds for all tier 1 hospitals included

This is thread 30. Other than this one all are over 500 pages. Feel free to read them.

Am I correct in calculating that there's currently around 8000 of a backlog? And that's recent enough numbers as well.

    Nolan said 9,000 last night.

If they announce 3500 cases today, there will be a backlog of around 8000 cases.

Up till this week I knew no one with Covid . Since yesterday I now have heard of 13 people who tested positive . These are all people who are careful and have only seen a few people . It is rampant out there and can only get worse . The close contacts are not being tested so it’s spreading out of control .

Hopefully the daily swab number has plateaued and will begin to decrease next week.

So would you please give me the conclusions in a nutshell.

Save me a lifetime reading through 376 odd pages.
