And as we speak, shopping malls are packed

They will not be for long. People are buying things before shops close for 4/6/8/12 weeks or what ever!

No she wont be tested. A mates wife and 3 kids are positive,He requested a test and was told to assume he has it and isolate fore 14 days. They are only testing those with symptoms now.

But what kind of symptoms? Is it HSE list which is absolutely rubbish. It doesn't even include headache as a symptom which it very much is. Also alot of people don't have a fever. A poster here said yesterday they had a runny nose. Are they all symptoms? Or are we back to March again and you have to have a fever and a cough?

Most don’t until they or a loved one is in triage.

Will be lockdown until April, best case scenario is now late March tbh. Short term gain for long term pain.

So how many have been given doses of the vaccine?

    Deleted post, was wrong.

I can see curfews being imposed if this trend continues, tbh.

Don't know about right now but my daughter works down in Dundrum SC and her particular shop had their second busiest day ever yesterday.

That's it yeah. Just out of curiosity, have you tried working from home while simultaneously caring for and educating multiple children?

Your kid will be just fine missing 4 to 6 education.

You’re just proving a point that you need the school to act as a baby sitter while you work from home.

Why cant they just be honest.

It will be level 5 till March.

Then it will be level 3,2,1 in April,May and June. Then eventually back to normal if the vaccine works as expected.

Absolute nonsense, if it's done properly it'll be mid-February at the latest.

The virus can't spread when people stay at home, that's the whole idea.

Believe it or not, medical personnel are entitled to time off, and post whatever opinions they want on social media.

These accounts post insight into the real, escalating situation in hospitals that you otherwise wouldn't know about.

People may be more inclined to listen to actual doctors than politicians or the media.

Believe it or not, I never said they weren't entitled to time off, or not entitled to post whatever opinions they want on social media. Personally I don't need this doctors tweets to inform me of the general situation in hospitals but I'm sure its of use to some people.

It's good that her time off allows her to post every single hour every single day from what I can see. Though she (like a lot of politicians) might want to remember that it's probably only 20% of the population actually on twitter and, arguably, 90% of them are nuts!

I suspect we are heading in to the worst of the pandemic over the next 2 weeks.

Late December and January are always the worst time of year for hospitals and this year will be no different all be it during a pandemic.

Hospitals will have a large reduction with standard influenza and flu to deal with this year, however Covid will be the main driver of chronic illness. Deaths will happen as they always do at this time of year and we must protect people!

Things are bleak and will remain so for another few weeks. We will get thru this.
The current restrictions will really only commence tomorrow, however I suspect general contacts with people have been declining since just after Xmas and these are not showing up as yet.

People seem to be stating that Xmas was some kind of carnival this year. For me and just noticing traffic etc , it was very quiet this year compared to previous years.

Backlog must be massive at this stage, ~3,000 from today, ~2,000 yesterday and the historic backlog of ~1,400, are we looking at over 10,000 cases tomorrow if they get the swabs processed?

Also if a swab is positive but a case not announced, has the person that tested positive also not been informed that they're positive? Which could lead to even further spread?

The swabs are already processed. Positive swabs have already been through the lab and results released. Those patients would also be contacted in a timely manner to maintain the quick turnaround time.

Where the "backlog" comes in is the reporting of cases by the HPSC to the DOH. Maybe they are struggling to authorise and verify all these cases. Clerical staff likely not working 24/7 or maybe not enough of them to keep up with the service.

Not sure why people are fixated on how many have had the (partial) vaccine, we know how laughably few doses we have and even if they've all been used it's the tiniest drop in the ocean. All this vaccine talk has lulled some into a false sense of security and although it's a ray of light it shouldn't be overhyped.

We'll see where we stand on January 31st. Most should expect level 5 restrictions well into February anyway.

    Answer my question. Thanks.

    I don’t have kids

I work for a global multinational and colleagues in Germany , China, France all say the same.

They need the schools open to send their kids so they can work from home in peace.

You are pretending it’s about education lol

At least be honest with yourself that it’s nothing to do with education. You require a babysitting service so your conference calls are not interrupted.

Still waiting for someone to explain Europe's cowardice and why we did not just close everything down bar actually life-essential necessities for 3 weeks to completely eliminate the virus and return life back to normal? What was required was men with guns outside doors, men with guns on the borders. Complain and cry to me all you want about your rights for 3 weeks, when the alternative is this year-long hell of lockdowns and restrictions? Whoever prefers 1 year+ of lockdowns over 3 weeks of house arrest is completely off their heads and hasn't seen the true suffering of these restrictions. Yet Europe has firmly chosen the former. I do not get it. I really do not.

By the looks of things half the country would need to be dropping dead before the schools are closed.

My auntie was in close contact with a confirmi positive case. She doesn't know what to do in terms of getting a test. She said the only option she has is to pay €250 at the beacon hospital?

She said the HSE are uncontactable all day.
