While I don’t necessarily disagree with Rte being negative there are some errors here.

The positivity rate on swabs is getting worse and worse. It has not been improving. It is over 14% today. We are back at relatively normal levels of testing today setting aside the days that we had some huge numbers of tests never seen before just before Christmas

There is no backlog in those figures. There were 2007 swabs today. We only announced 1546. There are a good 1500 odd cases in a backlog that have not been announced yet.

I wonder if some of the variance between swabs and cases might be due to non-residents being tested? If a person home from UK (for example), tests positive, are they reported as a case to HPSC if they give their UK address?

In fairness, even without lockdowns, anyone that is scared of themselves getting Covid can avoid it reasonably easily unless they are frontline or something. Stay at home, don't mix, order shopping online etc, it's not that difficult to avoid contacts unless your job demands it.

Because the same thing will happen again once restrictions are eased. They said they are hopeful of a summer time target of things going back to some form of normality... Key word is hopeful. More than likely will be August

Unless you want a full lockdown for 6-7 months? If so, off you go into the basement. I'm not doing that and millions with me
Well thats why Gyms/Non essential retail etc. will have to be forced to closed and everyone will have to miss out. Becauae some cant be trusted to behave like a responsible adult.

What are you actually scared of, more lockdowns are coming, unless your in a nursing home, you are putting yourself under more risk driving to the shop.

How can you know the risk of another individual?
    (or if they drive)

Going for a walk in a forest with a hundred people is not the same risk as going into a pub or a restaurant.

Show me one example of a superspreading event outdoors, anywhere in the world? I know of only a single proven case of infection outdoors, and I've read a lot of formal papers. We've blocked people from hiking/the beach, and where else are people going to go other than mix with neighbours or do things indoors instead?

We've had too much focus on theatre like hand sanitisers and sitting 2 metres apart, and nowhere near enough attention on the effects of ventilation.

First you can show me where I said being outdoors caused spread.

Do you think that they should have said "the next two years are crucial" instead of repeating "the next two weeks are crucial" every two weeks?
Not sure which would have annoyed people more tbh.

Had to update the chart from wave 2 for the charts people. Can see it really took off from 1st of December.

    Some?

Sorry, are you suggesting I'm not behaving responsibly? :D Because I don't want to lock myself away for 6 months? My mind is overloaded with terms right now to describe you

As far as I recall, I'm not someone who has come into close contact with anyone with the virus, nor have I ever had to get a test due to my own actions.

But hey, if you want to play holier than thou, be my guest.

    Clueless!

People who get very sick tend to be from day 5 to 10.

Fair to presume that the Christmas day rise in transmission has not been seen, or largely seen yet.
Yes. Exactly but some of the Christmas social events and Christmas travel took place earlier than Christmas Day itself so I presume the increase is related to that.

Lockdown is coming, if you follow the guidelines yourself the chances of dieing from this is absolutely tiny. People need to know this is not a death sentence. Posters on here and media have people like you absolutely terrified. Some posters on here would wanna calm the **** down.

That's why I asked what they are scared of, the narrative that this is a death sentence has to change. People are terrified.

    Exactly

We have both been wfh. We go to the supermarket late at night

We did go out for meals together

However my partner daughter who is looking after her grandmother wanted to come over for dinner yesterday after she would have met with about six other households since Christmas Day

We said no thanks and met her outside for half an hour Christmas Eve

I know I sound very cautious, but we are ten months in, there are maybe four to go

I'll be straight into my local when it reopens though for a couple of drinks and a meal

Till then I'll wfh takeaways will be a treat and thats how it is

Would you be first in the queue yourself with your sleeve rolled up?

    Yes

I don't care if I get it, but I don't want my parents to get it and it can hurt older people.
Hospital admissions for covid are currently at an all time high, when you see that 14k were referred for tests today by GPs, we could be in for one hell of a sh*tstorm in our hospitals. That's the other worry. That could screw over a lot of already sick people and clog up our hospitals badly.

It is a death sentence for some though. And that fact shouldn't be ignored either.

Why? Just follow the guidelines. If that's gotten you this far there is no reason it won't get you through safely to the end

I know it means being unsociable, but continue with your social distancing and other protective measures and you'll reduce your risk of catching it.

it can/is deadly for plenty of vulnerable groups. surely you know that by now?

Seeing as there is talk of a Phase 5 level lockdown similar to last March, is there any danger that construction works will be stopped?

Jailers are not popular with the inmates.

Wait for the flood of recriminations if/when our standard of living collapses.

I'm fairly sure the world economy isn't growing by leaps and bounds at the same time as its being strangled.

Of course not ignored but a bit of perspective is needed otherwise we would be terrified of anything that involves risk. We have locked down to keep people safe. If your under 70 chances of dieing from this are tiny and even if you are the chances of getting it and actually dieing are absolutely minuscule.

3,418 total deaths in all Ireland (ROI and NI) but don't worry not a death sentence  not to mention the long term side effects, I can understand people are terrified and some selfish fcekers want to just carry on as normal, we need to embrace the new normal

I understand people being worried and cautious but being terrified of this for what could be 18 to 24 months is not healthy for anyone and the risks need to be explained to people.
