Its your defining of hate speech and incitement which I can't reconcile.

It's too vague, and, especially when the accusation is levelled at posters here, makes no sense.

That's not an accident, it needs to be vague, then people are never sure if they are falling afoul of it and so never even approach the topics at all.

That's hate speech in your opinion?

Would you support a law which would punish people for making that statement?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,337 ✭✭✭Wombatman

Why do people make assumptions, or jump to conclusions, at all in these situations? No benefit to it. Why can't people just wait for the facts to emerge and draw evidence based conclusions.

If official investigators did this they would be the dangerous, or the laughing stock at least. Deciding who the perpetrator is, prematurely, can wrongly lead to efforts to make the evidence fit.

Fact: Girls told not to wear leggings to PE.

Premature ill-founded conclusion, soon to become an international news story: Male teachers in the school are pedos.

At least leave the pitch-forks at home until their is concrete proof.

It’s almost like they ain’t believe that young Muslim men aren’t being groomed in mosques to commit atrocities.

It’s certainly where the perpetrators of the MEN planned their attack. And London Bridge. And sadly so many others.

I abide by the constitution of Germany.

Which was created to stop Holocaust denial and anti Semitic abuse.

    But you knew that.

Okay I’ll bite with you - point out how speculating that where middle aged Imams in questionable mosques have been proved to have radicalized young men to commit Islamist terror attacks - perhaps carry out one themselves, is “hate speech” under the law? Any law.

So would you support a law which would punish the post you quoted?

Not abide by, but actively support and agree with.

Just hearing about his now. Went on to the Frankfurter Allgemeine website to look for it but was surprised not to see it at all on the main page. I had to search "Trier" to find anything related to it.

Five dead, 14 injured, 51-year old German man from the area. As he's not an immigrant, this will therefore not be called a "terror" attack and no more on it shall be spoken. No, terror only relates to attacks carried out by non-nationals...

I agree that not calling it a terror attack seems like a "downgrade" but terrorism is usually defined as an attack for political or religious reasons so I can see why it's not called it.

It is horrific and I can't believe it has left the main headlines so quickly.

Oh Hi, you are back - and *now* you want to be serious?

Do you remember ignoring my serious questions earlier in the thread, to push your own self righteous agenda?

But now suddenly everyone is queuing up to pretend they give a sh!t about this attack or its victims.

Dies that mean every accident or attack should be treated as one?
Should we continue to Stoke the flames with generalisations about older religious types grooming terrorists or allude about the tanning of skin?

Yesterday. But it's fallen right off not 24 hours later.

I don't care how it looks - I tell it how it is - people are willing to pretend to care about the seriousness of the attack and then go on to spout nonsense about all sorts unrelated to the attack.

You almost done it in this very post - keen to be *seen* to point out how something looks..

While again - I asked some serious questions earlier on that no one is willing to answer (too late now, we are on the Muslim bashing wagon now of course).

Yesterday. But it's fallen right off not 24 hours later.

It's all about what an incident implies, there are still multiple shooting with mass casualties in the USA but they are hardly making a ripple of news as they are "domestic/postal/random white guy with issues" and we all have bigger fish to fry at the moment.

From DW about this latest vehicular homicide this year
    https://www.dw.com/en/car-ploughs-into-pedestrian-zone-in-german-town/av-55790717
Several people have been killed in the German city of Trier and more than a dozen seriously injured, after a car ploughed through a pedestrian zone. Police have been questioning the driver, a 51-year old local man. His motive is unclear.

    From DW February 2020
    https://www.dw.com/en/german-man-crashes-car-into-crowd-at-carnival-parade-injuring-dozens
A German man has driven a vehicle into a crowd of Carnival revelers, injuring dozens of people, a third of them children. Authorities have arrested the main suspect, saying the incident was likely a "deliberate act."

    From DW July 2020
    https://www.dw.com/en/berlin-7-injured-as-car-plows-into-crowd/a-54321357
A car has driven into a crowd of people in Germany's capital, leaving seven people injured — some seriously. The incident happened on Sunday morning near the Bahnhof Zoo metro station in the Charlottenburg district.

If you were killed in Europe in 2019 by a terrorist, you were killed by a jihad.

Notwithstanding not all Muslims are jihadis, all jihadis are Muslim.

No one really knows the rate or % of radicalisation among this group. One man's radical us another man's liberal
This is not hate speech, but an incontrovertible fact.

    https://www.de24.news/en/2020/12/bernd-w-51-trier-driving-amok-was-a-loner-who-lived-in-an-suv.html
Bernd W. (51): Trier driving amok was a loner who lived in an SUV

A terrorist attack or a politically motivated act seem ruled out: The German authorities have no evidence of a political background to the incident in Trier with at least four dead and several injured. The driver of the car who caught several people in the pedestrian zone is therefore not classified as a hazard.

However, the driver was very specific about his victims. The Interior Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, Roger Lewentz, said on Tuesday evening at a press conference: “The zigzag lines were specifically chosen to look for people and to hurt them.”

According to “Focus”, the alleged gunman is 51-year-old Bernd W. Neighbors identified the man based on the license plate number of his SUV. A witness also said that he recognized Bernd W.’s shoes in the picture of the arrest. “That’s why I know that it was him – definitely.”

Lyra McKee was murdered by jihadists?

Anyway, has any more information come to light on this incident?

    Interesting point igCorcaigh
    Why isn't classified though?
Dissidents claimed responsibility, but apologised that she wasn't the target.
