It would place a President above the law to the point where they could - taken to the legal extreme, commit 1st degree murder, or several murders or other serious crimes.

Provided it was under Federal Jurisdiction, so within DC or under RICO or some such Federal statute

President Trump is said to have discussed with advisers whether to grant pre-emptive pardons to his three oldest children and Jared Kushner.

    It’s a crime family.

The base and right wingers will lap this up. It'll be spun as necessary to avoid a witch hunt by the evil Dems.

    Yep!

But hopefully the lesson will have been learned to not give 2 sh1ts what "his base" think.

There's no reasoning with these people.

It's important that those who have committed crimes be held to account in an impartial way so that this will not happen again.

"so Mr Trump, you admitted you and your family are criminals by issuing pardons?"

"Evil dems, blah, blah, witchhunt, blah blah, fake news, blah blah"

"so you don't trust that a jury of US citizens would find you not guilty when presented with any evidence?"

He didn't trust the called witnesses in his impeachment trial to toe the line

A sharp-eyed user on twitter spotted that the redacted report showed a trailing apostrophe after the person's name, which implies their name ends with an "s".

    Rick Gates maybe?

Can you imagine the rage if Obama had tried a stunt like this?

You are assuming they use proper grammar. It's the Trump organisation.

Give it 2 days and they will be claiming he did try something like this.

No - Gates leverage wouldn't be money , it would be information.

This is a wealthy donor type that is looking for a get out of jail free card before Trump leaves.

Probably nothing to do with the Trump admin directly.

I'd be looking for a wealthy Trump donor that is under investigation for dodgy business dealings somewhere.

How can any trump supporters condone any pardoning of anyone while also claiming "law and order"?

Law and order would be people actually answering for their crimes.

Yet they will bend over backwards to justify trump pardoning people.

They don't care. They literally would follow Trump into the fiery pits of hell. And I really cannot offer any clear reason as to why.

Why someone would hail someone that's as corrupt and childish as Trump as the second coming of the Lord is just beyond my capability to understand.

This is so good. This is the lunatic who was laughing sarcastically like Satan about Biden winning,

In 2015/2016 Trump said he could shoot someone in the middle of fifth avenue, and people would still vote for him.

That applies the same now as it did then.

He grossly mishandled the pandemic, tanked the deficit, alienated the U.S. from its allies, gave 2 fingers to environmental concerns, was AWOL when any disasters struck, inflamed racisim, was objectively the worst president in living history and yet 70 million still voted for him.

What I don't get is how his supporters don't recognise he despises them. He left them freezing in the cold, he jeopardised their health by holding rallies while lying to those attending about the dangers of COVID, told them that he wouldn't visit them only for the election, and yet they cheered him on.

    Cult like indeed.

You just hopped up on a slippery slope there.
There have been many mystifying pardons given out by many Presidents.

how many involved co-conspirators or people that had information detrimental to the president or people who bought their pardon?

I wonder how many of his supporters know he stole this "idea" from the tv show The West Wing.

TBH we all know it was Jared who stole it and said it to Trump once thinking he sounded smart

Unless it was mentioned on Americas Funniest Home Videos I doubt many of them knew.

no its not , simply look at the all the false accusations thrown at him since in office. it would be a perfect FU to use the rules for his benefit, clearly the Dems cant be trusted to play this straight , they think they have just defeated orange hitler.

So when he's an unnamed co-conspirator in a legal case, that's a false accusation?
When asked under oath, whether trump could be charged with obstruction of justice, one of the most senior people in the FBI answered yes, that's a false accusation?

Trump saying fake news or alternative facts doesn't make it so.

Any particular false accusation you're thinking of?

Because some people are afraid to simply admit that they were wrong. They invested so much in a new messiah and he turned out to be a lying conman, who's scrabbling around for his latest mark.

They spent years shilling for a chancer and are holding out for some miracle gotcha moment, because being "right" is paramount to them. They put a lot of themselves into following someone, whom they never met and have only seen and heard in the media. But despite all the evidence that's before their eyes, they'll continue to actively ignore that, in favour of the next great thing to come out of their hero's mouth.

Pure, childish, fanaticism, but on a political stage.

It's like Michael Jackson fans refusing to admit that he was suspect around kids.

Well he's obviously no Hitler but he was arrogant and ignorant enough to think he could play the system.

He is a quite vain shade of orange though.

Basically, he adopted an internet conspiracy vocabulary that his simpletons can relate to.

I am not entirely sure they are at fault in a lot of cases.

I would like to see the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram content being generated towards this particular audience. I bet you for the most part that is where a huge part of the issue with Trump supporters lie. Once them alogithirms start generating content that fits a particular narrative suited to a persons profile it is almost an unstoppable train.

When Trump throws out an untrue tweet, the amount of engagement that generates is absolutely massive as people pile on and go down various rabbit holes afterwards.
