I'll say it again. We were rushed into level 5 without giving level 3 enough time. And then later it turned out that level 3 was probably just fine.
Some people were also against level 3. And the purpose of the restrictions wasn't just to find out what effect what levels would have, but also to prevent cases and save lives.

If there's a fire in an apartment block, and you have two fire engines, you don't just send one 'to see if it can manage on its own', even though it might be useful info to have.

Disagree. They’ve hooked onto some other country’s data to justify a ridiculous recommendation. It’s pure and utter power trip at this stage.

That's fair enough and you're entitled disagree and criticise them as everyone else is. Issue I had was with the personalisation and personal abuse from some posters which achieves absolutely nothing but see most are now banned anyways.

Blah blah blah exponential growth blah blah blah level 3 didnt work blah blah blah “end zone” blah blah

You of all people should know how sensitive the case numbers are to a couple of tenths increase in the r number.

It's not blah blah. It's basic math. We're currently at 200 per day. That is actually not far from an increase to 1,000 a day in a few weeks at all if too many measures are relaxed.

Anyone know what the hell has happened in Kilkenny and Tipperary to cause all those cases

But its not a bloody fire. We were down to single figures and had all the time in the world for something with method. But we wouldnt stop tinkering and doing 3.5s and local here and bollix that. Dont turn the tv too loud. We f**** up again because the people in charge are fumblers.

And now some people try to rewrite history and will have us in lockdown indefinitely.

You couldnt make this sh1t up.

We first hit 1,000 cases on October 10th. 28 days earlier we had 196 cases.

We have 300+ cases today. What’s 28 days time? Yep, Christmas Eve.

It’s not impossible that if we open too much up we could hit 1,000 cases in a month.

Canada's cases practically doubled after Thanksgiving holiday.

It's very possible unfortunately. Thinking otherwise is head in the sand type thinking.

I'd say NPHET saved and tacked on a couple hundred extra cases just for today. It's a running theme with them, usually do it whenever restrictions are to be lifted.

Tipp had a big football win at the weekend. Not sure about Kilkenny but the castle park is rammed every weekend and the council have tables out to encourage people to get takeaway food etc, have to think this is encouraging people to meet.

I’d say antisocial people, people who don’t like to go out and live their lives are absolutely loving lockdown. Finally they can fit in.

So people who want to re-open their business because they're running out of options or visit their family or go for a game of golf are now a nation of alcoholics.

You guys are really losing the plot.

NPHET advised us to go to level 5 for six weeks and get the case numbers down to about 50 a day.

We followed that advice and the cost to the country is well in excess of 1.5 billion.

The lockdown hasn’t worked. There has been heavy restrictions in place in Dublin for months now and no major drop in cases.

Could it be that these lockdowns are hugely expensive and not really helping?

He'll probably be on the Toy show tomorrow with George Lee, taking toys from the kids and telling them Santa isn't real.

You said things looked like they were tailing off at the end of September, when we had similar numbers to now, no?

That would be extremely quick for any football cases to be going through the system already

That's a bit rich, you trying to look for a source with some of the melodramatic and anti-science posts you have previously posted.

Did you not say that level 3.5 had worked?

I don't see any reason to lift restrictions in the current circumstances a part from loosening the family visits for Christmas day itself.

Open things up now and by Christmas eve we will be dealing with well in excess of 1,000 cases per day.

More people get the disease, more people will die.

The government should have a proper understanding that eaten bread is soon forgotten and the public won't be forgiving for a heath catastrophe in January.

They need to follow scientific advice and not the whims of cranks.

No one will care about a missed Christmas on December 27th. And the same people, failing to understand the gravity of the situation, for wholly selfish reasons will be the same ones shouting against the govt about the fallout afterward.

Don't make stupid decisions you'll regret.

Catastrophe? You mean like the one we haven't actually had all year?

Thinking otherwise is called having an opinion which everyone is entitled to regardless of if it disagrees with yours. If everyone had the same thoughts it would be a boring world

The lockdown has worked to suppress cases, look at the ECDC incidence rate map that was released today, we're orange while the majority of Europe is in the red.

Lee on RTÉ: "the numbers are not impressive, we're nowhere near the original target." Twist the knife George.

A number that was never a realistic target. It was set up for failure

Thanks to the national mitigation measures.

We need to keep up the good work though and redouble the efforts.

I don't fully remember, but I don't think we were in single figures when we went to 3.5 etc? I'm not saying that more/better couldn't have been done; I was just commenting on the "didn't wait and see if level 3.5 could do its job" argument.
