You really think an expert or advisory group should be made up of elected people ? Seriously ?

That’s not what I said- but any group yielding the kind of power Nphet have must be democratically accountable. Otherwise it’s an autocracy. That may not trouble you but it greatly concerns me

Just on the 'unelected' point ... experts are more or less by definition unelected. Who elected the experts who came up with the vaccines ?
Using 'unelected 'as a stick to beat NPHET with makes no sense.

It does if they are allowed to make decisions. They should advise government and the government should make the decisions.

Yes the virus is very nice to the paddies but hates the people in other countries such that their authorities have to close schools. . .

It's a simple reality accepted that schools open contribute to an increased number of cases because if this were not the case then all schools would be open worldwide.

We have decided to take on that contribution which has led to an average 370 cases per day average (over the past 14 days) after 35 days at level 5.

We would be well below 100 cases (NPHET's target by December 1st) if schools had closed on entry to level 5.

We have chosen not to do so and so there is a cost associated.

That cost is increased infection and an increased number of cases.

Yes the virus is very nice to the majority of countries but hates the people in a small minority of countries such that their authorities have to close schools! Saying a few places have closed schools therefore schools must be the problem only holds if you ignore everywhere else (which you seem happy to do).

Where schools have closed, it has been due to very high community transmission. Many countries have managed lower community transmission despite schools having remained open, including yourselves. About 50% of the population are exposed to schools (either directly or indirectly), if schools were a big source of spread, we would have far higher cases.

Of course schools contribute to some spread but the evidence suggests that that is at a small level. If schools were a big source of spread, where are the outbreaks and cases?

No I want them abolished- if they want to form a party and get elected based on their flavour of autocratic “health” fascism then that is up to the public to decide. As it is we are getting the above with no democratic tenets or accountability.

I’ve no interest on their “advice” thank you, which you do appear to be admitting is compulsory- deeply troubling in itself

You need to take a chill pill- you're just posting rabid rubbish.

Course it makes sense when fundamental democratic norms and freedoms are at stake

The scientists working on vaccines as far as I’m aware haven’t been interfering in people’s lives for a year to the best of my knowledge. So but if a red herring there I’m afraid. All hail Lord Tony

so you don't want them elected but you do want them democratically accountable? what exactly does that mean?

Tony is some backstabing c1nt. Let the government makes their plans, basically announce them, then wait until the 11th hour to swoop in and undermine them, when they cant change course. Absolute backstabing of the highest order. Some operator.

Sure so rather than actually debate you push the insult and belittle button- it’s how the Nazis used to flatten all dissent- claim opponents were mentally ill. The lowest of the low type comebacks

Schools do contribute to the viral spread.
    Period.

Nphet were always due to meet today?
If the government planned without awaiting public health advice that’s on them

And there's the backlog from yesterday, conveniently timed for Tony's statement of intent. Underhanded shenanigans, we're being played.

Is that the backlog? Or were the swab figures similar today to 335?

It suits Dr Death to leak everything to the media once again, thinks he runs the country. He has our cowardly politicians under his thumb.

Lol, hard to hide your agenda with your username.

Just for the NPHET is running the country types in here Gavan Reilly just tweeted this
NPHET advice to Government is that restaurants and pubs should allow takeaway service ONLY, throughout ALL of December.

Set to be rejected by Cabinet subcommittee which is meeting right now to consider allowing FOUR households under one roof at Christmas.

NPHET for the bajillionth time gives advice and its upto the government to either take the advice or reject it which there going to do.

This also from Christina Flynn of thejournal.ie
Other than advising that restaurants and pubs should allow takeaway service only throughout all of December, NPHET has also raised concerns around reopening Mass and religious services.

Everybody was predicting that the figures were going up today and were called conspiracy theorists. We knew they would try and pull a fast one.
