Anyone know what common reasons for failing vetting are? Vetting been away 5 or 6 weeks now, I don’t have any convictions and never had any police problems except a time when I was in my early teens (no caution or anything). Do they take jobs you’ve had into consideration? Never had a job that is anything even close to police in my life.

Thought I would hear something back by now, expecting a fail email everytime I check my emails isn’t fun :(

Hey, don't you worry. You will pass it, even people with some minor driving offences pass from what i have read in the threads. You have no reason to be anxious. Look at us, poor souls still waiting for A/C results, or even worse, people still waiting to do their A/C. Keep your spirits high. ;)

Try not to worry. The average time for vetting is around 3 months and can take much longer in some cases. It’s different for everyone and just because you haven’t had any issues with police or no financial issues etc doesn’t mean it will clear faster. From reading the vetting threads on this forum over the years there is no way to succinctly rationalise why it takes different lengths for different people, in some cases it seems on the outside to be a bit of a lottery in terms of the time that vetting takes to clear. For example surprisingly on occasion some people with more blemishes with a checkable history have cleared faster. If they need more info they will contact you directly and should there be any issues you will have a robust appeal process so try not to panic.

If you’ve no issues you are concerned about you shouldn’t have any problems so try not to stress you’ll hear some good news soon I’m sure.

I guess this process is designed to make people paranoid judging by the posts here over the many years lol

That’s very true, this process is mentally exhausting for everyone, and I suppose that’s a good thing :)

Update on the PSNI website just to say given last nights announcements there will be knock on impacts to the assessment Centre. Do you think they will issue results or even pass/fail for candidates who have completed the Assessment Centre to date?

No update on results so who knows! They can’t really afford to hold up recruitment, they’ll not want any breaks in GV, FT is only really 2/3 squads worth. I’d say we could at least get a potential 3rd FT group next week?

Had my AC last night. I felt some parts went better than my 2018 AC (role plays - though missed some questions) and some parts didn't go as well as my 2018 AC (report).

They said they would be in touch in the next few weeks. I don't know if thats a definite or if it depends on the rest of the ACs happening.

  • Registered Users Posts: 138 ✭✭Blueandtwo1320

I wouldn't read into the 'We will be in touch in the next few weeks' much. By that, I think they just mean the Assessment feedback email. They said the same at mine in back in September. :( Results before Christmas would be great though.

You're 100% right. Personally I'm not too worried about the date. I just hope they come in ASAP for everyone else. I know how hard it is waiting. Its the most stressful part of the recruitment process. So I sympathise with you all.

Im just interested to see how I've done this time compared to my previous AC. Though if I've done bad I hope I'm in GV by the time I get that result haha.

Same here, Gonzo94. I think my report didn't go as well as i wished as the time flew so fast and i am not sure if i was as thorough in my report writing as it needs to be. Good luck though! We might have done not so badly. Results before Christmas would be great, but i think they might want to have all candidates done with their A/C first :( Hopefully they will finish all A/Cs before Christmas x

If the vetting team have requested additional information, I’ve provided it and they’ve confirmed that the additional information is sufficient; can I assume that my vetting should be cleared sometime soon?

Folks can I recommend that if you’re waiting on stages to be completed etc: go get your eyes looked at.

I’ve just returned with some pretty negative news that if I had known about a few more months ago I probably could have got sorted. No point in getting all the way to the medical to fall flat on your face!

Hey RustInPeace90, my sympathies. I have some sight problems as well and should i get to the medical stage, i am dreading it as well. Undergoing eyesight assessments at present. I read in the Medical stage 4 thread that people have appealed their medical result, gone corrected their vision (mostly with a laser surgery) and the re-sat the medical. Could you perhaps do that? Find that thread and read around it, also, read your appeals process as it all depends what the PSNI medical will say on case by case basis. Best of luck mate x

I have a feeling it’s going to have to go down that route yes. I understand the occupational health people have a job to do and I respect it, but I’m going to exhaust every route I can!

In terms of time left, pretty much. Seeing a specialist today was my Hail Mary on the 40 yard line!!

That's the way - never say die! It seems that a lot of people succeed on appeal. Do you fall short of the unaided sight requirement?

I’m not really sure mate - I provided additional information last week and haven’t heard any word back yet.. I have a feeling going by what other people have said the vetting is gonna take a while.

I had to provide additional information back in May (I contacted vetting first about the issue). I was then called for an interview in October (totally different issue). It all depends.

    Hope everyone is keeping well.
Its gone pretty quiet in terms of a PCA date for the second group of fast trackers. Vetting is away 2 weeks but I'm expecting it to take 2-3 months and possibly a lot longer.
I am assuming we get at least 4 weeks notice of PCA with an opportunity to go attend a familiarisation session within that period?
4 weeks from now is taking us into the Christmas period so i'm thinking it will be mid to end of January at the earliest if I get a date in the next few weeks.
I will have to go easy on the beer, mince pies and turkey this year! :pac: :pac: :pac:
All the best to those waiting to sit AC and receive results.

That’s some wait you had on your hands - how long did it take in total to have your vetting cleared?

I went back over my emails to look at the timeline.

I had five weeks between receiving my PCA invite and the actual date, with the familiarisation exactly halfway in between that. Then I got an invite to the medical one week after completing my PCA successfully, so that means approximately one month between PCA and medical.

Thanks for info MrChew. I am going to keep my focus on training and fingers crossed I will hear some news soon. Who knows all being well and if i'm lucky I could be through PCA & Medical by mid to end of February.

I thought it would make sense for them to review your case in its entirety and request all additional information in one go at the end. So then they could clear your vetting when they were happy with the additional information provided. Sounds too simple.

Each persons forms probably have to go to different departments. It’s probably lots of different groups looking at your profile.. I would imagine it’s one of the reasons for it being a time consuming process - sure all we can do is be patient :D

Both eyes opened I can read to the bottom, my “good eye” can hit the bottom, my left eye can do 4th at best cause of the condition. Emailed the occupational health team and they can’t make a comment on it. Which is fair enough!

And presumably you don't wear glasses for your condition?

    No never needed them!

Balls. So what are you going to do, give it a dig and see what happens?

    No never needed them!

I’m assuming you have a lazy eye (amblyopia)

I too have this condition - I went to opticians in March and aided I was scraping by hitting 4th line down.

I got contact lens. Despite the guy telling me it won’t get better. I went back a month later after eye patching every night, on lunch breaks, eating dinner with family etc. Came out with 6/12 eyesight.
