Called in to my local Post Office today. Why is it that all the parcels that the public post are left outside in the public area of the office. Is there nowhere inside where these can be stored?

There was enough parcels piled high to fill a small van. This was only one suburban post office.

Well I'm glad Amazon have given up on An Post (see below) - had a few parcels ordered from then now in the past week, 2 days after ordering its at the door with Fastway (and in the past I would groan if it was sent by them)

Even better you get a text saying arriving today and the tracking shows where the courier is with an estimated time (and how many more stops he has) for when it will arrive - why can't An Post have this being the biggest courier company in the country?

Proviso - Amazon were offering another (think this is the third or fourth time, had a few for a euro as well) free months trial of Prime. Even ended up cancelling an order from a week ago that wasn't due for delivery til the 30th and reordered it this Sunday gone - will be here tomorrow!

An post certainly send me texts and I can track the van, but it hasn't been rolled out in all units yet.

Fastway must be trialing this too, but not in my area yet

Again and again, the volume of parcels is gigantic at present, people simply need a basic level of patience.

It takes Amazon a week and more to dispatch parcels and no one moans, but more than 3 or 4 days for delivery and its Armageddon

The postman finally delivered my package today, just over 2 weeks after it was despatched. It spent 11 days sitting in Frankfurt and made it to Dublin on Friday. I'm just glad it got here (it wasn't particularly important, thankfully) but it is a lesson learned. If anybody wants to buy anything online this side of Christmas, pay extra and use a courier if you can.

Amazon definitely haven't given up on An Post in this neck of the woods. 90% of stuff ordered from amazon is still being delivered by An Post here. Instead of next day delivery when it hits Ireland, typically it's 2 days now. Still not too bad, seeing as it takes amazon often well over a week to dispatch something, unless you're a prime paying customer.

Maybe it varies depending on region. I'd be in an urban area, but not in Dublin.

Just had a big ticket item delivered by the postman this morning from amazon. Amazon estimated at time of dispatch (Friday) it'd be today and it was. It hit Dublin over the weekend, which isn't awful delivery time all things considered. *shrugs*

I bought some Christmas food items from Austria last Wednesday. They were shipped with UPS on Thursday and arrived yesterday morning.

I'm still waiting on a present that was sent from Galway at the same time with An Post.

I haven't had any issues with DPD either.

I'm in Dublin, all my Amazon orders have been deliverd by Amazon Logistics in the last month. I'm impressed so far, none of them have been late.

I ordered a package from the US and chose express delivery which was 3-5 business days. Obviously its been well beyond that time. The last update says it was dispatched from sorting centre in Dublin. I used webchat to ask an post about it - and just to enquire about what that means ie is it in ireland or not. The person just read my message and closed the chat. Even a generic reply about delays would have been appreciated.

Parcel I was waiting for from Germany finally arrived in Dublin parcel hub at 2am this morning. Exactly 1 week from leaving Koln to arriving in Dublin. Now let's see how long it takes to come to Cork.

If it's a 6pm or 2pm "signature" then yes that is an internal thing. So many new staff that mis directs will happen.

I don't see any posts where an item didn't eventually get delivered.

BTW, an post delivery volume hit over 2m parcels last week. Highest ever. So as said before, we all just need some extra patience.

Its not like that An Post did not see this coming, volumes are going up from the first lockdown, they are now using an overflow warehouse to hold items for days.

2 of 7 items in the last 3 months have gone missing from addresspal, same address used on all. They don't bother replying to emails and can't get to them on the phone. The 2 items missing were sent 4 and a half weeks ago from the uk, tracking number says there were delivered within 3 days. Not sure what to do now, surely they can't just get away with that? Have another item due as well

I am in the same boat as the OP. Waiting since 18th. Package is in Dublin still. Same tracking result as OP. It actually happened me last month as well with another delivery from the US. And it was USPS again. When I queried it with the sender they said it's customs that are holding it up. Was stuck for 21/2 weeks.

I've learned my lesson as will use FedEx next time. While it costs more and there is import dutiy, FedEx take care of the clearing process with customs. Items usually goes to a bonded warehouse in Shannon. With stuff coming in from USPS, it's a case of join the queue in Dublin and they get to it when they get to it. There is really no speeding up the process. AnPost will eventually show up with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it never updates. I've a few that haven't updated in 20 days. Amazon just refunded anyway.

Had an Amazon parcel dispatched yesterday - arrived today. I'm in Cork.
Meanwhile, waiting for a parcel from Cork since Friday and a parcel that arrived in Dublin before the Amazon package.
    Madness.

Tracking an post shows my Amazon return in Dublin hub since 21st,it should be in portlaoise by now,so I called Amazon, they have it, so an post tracking is not working.

If I have a package coming from US and it leaves a transfer airport in DUBLIN, how do an post get the package? They don't use transfer airports so what company is responsible for getting it from the airport to an post? I'm finding the whole thing so confusing.

In postal terms, the airport used is the "transfer airport"
And it can be sitting there after being scanned for several days until space is available.

Ok thank you - and once space is available an post will hopefully deliver it? The tracking number I have is only applicable to the US so have no way to track it now that's it in ireland

A package that left the uk on the 10th november and arrived in Dublin on the 14th Nov gor delivered today to my home... It sat in Dublin since the 14th and then today it was our for delivery in portlaoise.... So there's hope that the backlog is being cleared...Amazon already refunded me for the book as it was presumed lost but they also said there is no need to return it when I emailed customer service a a week ago...

An Post's last postal dates for Christmas look to be roughly the same as any other year... but I just sent something by Express Post to the US and the man in the post office said I could be looking at a delay of 3 weeks. And that's express, so registered and standard post must be even worse.

As someone who posts worldwide for their small business and has people asking if they'll have their orders for Christmas it's a bit scary. I'm emailing every customer to warn them of possible delays but I can see a nightmare on the horizon. I hope I'm wrong though.

I was going to post the same question, I have a parcel from Amazon that's been sitting in the Dublin Parcel Hub since the 17th of November, and have also got the message from Amazon saying I can get a refund, but didn't know what would happen if it did eventually turn up.
