The GDP of Ireland is imaginary, it doesn’t exist.

GNP is a more accurate reflection for Ireland.

Ireland has one of if not the worst hit domestic economy in Europe.

I posted in a different context earlier today but what is alarming is that Micheal McGrath was quoted in the news the other day about the government looking at ways to increase tax revenue. This is extremely worrying as the borrowing to date is only the tip of the iceberg in order to make sure the economy doesn't collapse.

Think of all the restart grants that will be needed to get small businesses up and running, rents will be owed by individuals and businesses, loans will have to be repaid, jobs lost in the hard hit sectors won't come back overnight (tourism to travel to hospitality) which means a large chunk of these workers will need assistance to get back on their feet. Businesses which have been waiting out covid, implementing salary freezes or cuts, cancelling bonuses, will finally get to assess their business needs and may find that actually they don't have the same requirement for staff that they had before.

The borrowing to date has kept things afloat but it really is only the start as we are only 7 months into the crisis and could be in a restricted society for another 6 months or so, following which the economic rebuild (ie borrowing to restart the economy) will only begin. If the government are already worrying about paying back the borrowing to date, we could be in serious trouble in Ireland.

Thanks it wasn't a serious row though I just found it a bit tough not to get openly frustrated. Shes not elderly, only early fifties so you can't put it down to age making her a bit less sharp. She might not want to stop locking down but I'd say my dad's fit to put diageo out of business

It’s very common. I have relatives and friends like that too. I just avoid the topic completely if possible. I compare Covid to a cult and the comparison is not inaccurate at all

Glynn said he has no proof that this is causing any cases.
However he also said that when people see these videos on twitter they get demoralised and maybe think it's not worth following the restrictions if other people aren't; therefore it's best to ban this practise.

I honestly have never heard a worse excuse to ban something.

They can also get demoralised when the CMO wont wear a mask, when Leo is driven around and he wont wear a mask to 'protect' his driver, when the other muppet O Neil is in studio and the camera shows a group behind him, all standing close together and ne'er a mask between them, and him gurning for the camera.

Never any mention of that though.

Jesus Christ you'd swear we were all raging alcoholics the way this show is going on. Love a night out myself but have just had 2 bottles since March, no interest in drinking at home at all.

Anything to distract from the colossal cock up in not getting the HSE's house in order during the summer. It's like winter came as a huge surprise to them.

I did indeed hear him. He categorically stated taxes would not be increased and the next words out of his mouth were they would have to look a new revenue streams.

There's a bill coming, the likes of which we have never seen before. It will soften the cough of even the most hardened restricters.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

It's the same for every country. Ireland is no exception.

The world is in a global pandemic. One way or another there are serious long lasting financial, psychological and health consequences associated with these events for societies everywhere.

What's most important, whenever this is brought under control, is that this is never allowed unfold in this way again.

I’ve never seen the media so enthralled and on message with government policy before- those grants and payments they all received worked a treat. Cheapest advertising and pr a government has ever gotten. Surely another round will be due come next year.
So dangerous when a media is no longer independent and bankrolled by government. We’ve really seen that play out throughout

Media is paid for by Advertising - I worked in it - Who is doing the bulk of advertising today - the HSE - So the Media plays the party (HSE) line , by not asking the hard questions on current policy - its such a shame that no leading journalist will go out on a limb and ask the hard questions like -

Why were no major ICU beds created over the summer?

Why do we have the longest lockdown in Europe ?

Why continue the lockdown when the second wave appears less deadly than first wave ?

Why does the unelected Tony H have such control over our nation ?

Do lockdowns really work (long-term) or do they just make the younger generation socialise behind close doors ?

Why do you say masks work now , when the experts said they didnt back in March ?

Does the virus really transmit outside ?

Does the virus really transmit via surfaces ?

Whos going to pay for all this from next year, when the vaccines arrives ?

What about the mental health toll, depression alchol and drug abue and OCD and social issues on our younger generation ?

There needs to be a full investigation into the mismanagement of this situation and potential criminal charges.

Forcing thousands out of work was and continues to be a failed strategy.

Lockdown is once again proving to be a failed strategy.

Oppressing a countries citizens to breaking is not the answer.

The difference being it's easier for other countries with stronger native companies, more resources, large manufacturing output etc to dig themselves back out than us. We're so dependant on MNC's it's almost a crutch.

An investigation here in banana republic lol

There is a cover-up at the highest levels globally of where and how the **** Covid came about

That's the investigation that's needed and no one gives a **** about it

Italian scientists put out a paper yesterday that Covid was around in September and its being debunked hard left right and centre by all media, a pack of clowns they are calling them, contaminated samples, faulty tests, you name it

A BL2, CDC standard lab with top scientists and disregarded like that, in a day, banished to back pages

For people that dont believe in propaganda or conspiracy theories

Watching state run RTE since March?

    They put CCP to shame

Hard to believe that there are millions starving to death in the world and closer to home we have 20% of people unemployed, yet the Indo are running stories about a man who has to put a chili in his porridge so he can taste because apparently he has a made up disease called long Covid.

Boo f*cking hoo!!! People are going to be losing their homes soon FFS!

Here's a post I made over 3 years ago in the beer forum:

And I referred to it again on 14/3:

Are there any other viruses confirmed to have this affect? Maybe this isn't as "novel" as they say...

A highly contagious virus was in Italy in September yet during the next 5 months, (including the Winter months when it is most virulent), it went unnoticed until it ran riot after Italy`s first death on the 21st. Feb.

Any mention in that paper where they think it hid out for that length of time, or what they were on when the wrote it ?

Governments borrowing money from central banks doesn’t work the same way as when you take a loan out from the credit union.

You sound like you be just arrived into Ireland- our dear leader (unelected) Tony said only a few days ago that a vaccine maybe welcome but we still have “be cautious”. Anyone that thinks he and his cronies are going to just suddenly relinquish their power and privilege are clearly in a different country to the one I’ve been stuck in for the past 10 months

Of course he's going to say that. He's hardly going to say that news of a vaccine is welcome, let's throw caution to the wind, is he? Relinquish power? They don't have any. They're an advisory board. I think you need to divert your ire elsewhere.

Sure, each country has it's own challenges ahead but I'm concerned about this one. We just had our largest ever budget deficit and that was before this current lockdown. We also have huge unemployment figures with youth unemployment at record levels as well. The indications are we'll have an equally large deficit next year. This is a huge problem for this country and we will see services slashed while taxes increase dramatically over the next 3-5 years (if we are lucky).

I do agree with you though, there will be massive psychological and health implications down the line which will make COVID look like a bump in the road.

Covid hid here and in Europe all summer and just popped up in October to be noticed

Many died of severe pneumonia in Italy last winter, alot, maybe do a bit of research before debunking stuff

Covid went months unchecked from July until Oct till we got deaths

    Sound familiar?

If it was highly contagious, a level 3 closing restaurants here in banana republic wouldnt have halted it

I'll call Michael Bay and tell him how to halt a pandemic in his next blockbuster

    Close indoor dining

    That's all

You can keep gyms, schools, offices, everything else opened

A highly contagious virus will stop growing regardless

Just had a bad row with my mother about restrictions. We got onto talking about the vaccines and she said she believes there should be lockdown after vaccine rollout in case 'covid comes back'. I, failing to understand what such a vague statement means asked that she elaborate on this but she couldn't.

I guess covid is like Michael Myers now it'll always come back. She's an intelligent woman as well, went to uni when very few people male or female did. I just find it upsetting what people have let this do to them.

    It’s mad.

I had a row with a buddy of mine the other day (a disagreement really nothing serious) but he was going on about the cases going up again and himself and the wife came to a conclusion that it was from kids going around at Halloween when they were told not to and he didn’t even let his 4 kids dress up!

I was just having one of them days and told him to cop himself on da fcuk. All 4 of his kids sit in a classroom with 30odd others from 30 different families every day, 2 of them are at an age they dont even have to wear masks and did ye really think calling to the door of a few friends and relations houses was going to be a huge issue because Tony feckin buzzkill said ye shouldn’t do it.

    It’s unbelievable really.

In the mask thread there is a guy who said that he saw somebody not wearing a mask and said that if he had a gun he would have sorted it out.

In a new thread asking why the traffic is busy there is a woman who seriously wanted to know if a posters medical appointment had actually been essential.

Don't expect too much from your fellow man, you won't get it.

I just replied on that new thread and as I said there, this situation is heaven for those curtain twitchers who spend more time bothering themselves about what others are doing than anything else.

Unfortunately it's the national passtime for many in this country.
