It is very interesting to observe all these forces standing behind a push for a vaccine for a virus that kills a fraction of what an air pollution does.

”Where’s the revolution? Come on, people you’re letting me down!”

This “pandemic” has been very strange. On the actual illness side of things, it has been pretty clear since March/April that this is nowhere near as serious as originally feared.

Unfortunately, Covid became political. Hysteria spread throughout the media and on social media in particular and a narrative was formed that 1 life is more important than the economy.

Governments then based their policies around this narrative. Let’s keep Covid deaths and cases as low as we possibly can became the mantra.

How well a country is doing in 2020 seems to be based on Covid alone. No other issues are relevant. Ireland is doing “very well” we hear as 20% are unemployed, we are officially in recession and elderly people are rotting away at home alone, not allowed to see their families.

A vaccine is not going to stop 80+ year olds with major underlying conditions from dying. But it will allow us to remove the word Covid from the death cert.

And again, in 2020, that is the single most important thing. The vaccine will allow us to move forward simply because it makes it looks like we done something.

We’ll probably start recording the deaths more responsibly after the vaccine.

It’s all been political since May. People like Tony pushing his no alcohol agendas. Political parties acting like public health is their top priority. People working from home and saving a fortune pushing for more lockdowns. People pushing for changes to society that they’d personally benefit from. Media using fear to sell papers and get clicks.

All done using the lie “looking to save lives”.

This is what happens when the world becomes too soft, too PC, and everybody wants to look like they are doing good.

Well done ... One of the best posts I've read on this covid .

Why do you post here then?

Well in my case it is to show anybody reading just how ridiculously wrong the status quo here are in case they might believe them. This is the only situation I can think of where a minority of deluded people can cause serious harm to the rest of us (American politics is another, maybe)

I am equally skeptical of the other side pushing for the vaccine without question. Some proof of concept is required beyond blind optimism there too.

    Definitely....the fake moralising is nauseating.

You do realise the mayo clinic is one of the most respect sources there is?

The total dismissal of the serious effects of the covid virus both from the virus and after by the anti-lockdown posters is absolutely astonishing. I must admit that this thread is a very strange place, I’m not sure I’ve seen anywhere else with so many clueless people gathered in an anti-lockdown group think, with a good dusting of anti-vaccine thrown in!

Thinking they know better than experts all over the world, thinking they know better than governments and so on. It would be funny were it not so serious that these opinions are out there

That’s because you want an echo chamber. Some people don’t give two ****es about Covid, myself included- we accept the natural world is full of various viruses- deal with it.

Thinking they know better than experts all over the world, thinking they know better than governments and so on.

This is what we are dealing with unfortunately. Most of us (not blindly) follow expert opinion because they know far more than us.

But with some on here and out there it would not matter what any expert said from the start.

They would dismiss it as "fake news", they know better, etc etc.

    Depressing.

The virus is not serious in the slightest for 99.5% of the population. Have you evidence backing up your claim that the virus has long term affects or are you one of those people who throw around this stupid "long Covid" phrase without any evidence?

There's many experts out there claiming this virus is been over-stated and reactions to it by governments have been disproportionate.

Those people aren't invited onto national TV or radio stations, though. They don't fit the narrative so we don't hear from them.

We hear from Sam "120k deaths" McDonkey alot though.

    Alot.

It isn't. Just another crank on boards telling how us to live when they don't know how themselves. If they followed their own advice they wouldn't be here all day everyday talking the same old waffle.

    There you go.

    Will you take it in?

    Of course not.

"Long Covid" in terms of the initial infection and symptoms is very real btw so I don't know what you are at there.

"May" That word appeared in that random article about 20 times. What a strange link to post.

    "May cause Parkinson's disease"

Are you seriously using this sh1te to back up your crazy notions of Covid19?

"Even in young people, may cause strokes, seizures and Guillain-Barre syndrome"

I despair. And not in a sympathetic way.

Not a completely fair argument P.

For all we know right now preapproval, the vaccine could be a huge mistake, best to dip the toe rather than dive right in.

    That is just scientific language.

If they said "will cause" or "causes" then that would be an absolute statement and incorrect.

    From that same random article:
Much is still unknown about how COVID-19 will affect people over time. However, researchers recommend that doctors closely monitor people who have had COVID-19 to see how their organs are functioning after recovery.

Translation: Disclaimer - We haven't a fcuking clue, just guessing.

I have provided a link to the Mayo Clinic no less - not good enough for these posters.

    Nothing is.

Everything is a conspiracy or fake news or whatever - they don't do facts or experts. Everyone is out to get them and make life difficult.

And what proof at all, apart from their feelings, do they give? Absolutely nothing.

    Of course.

Exactly, which is why due care is warranted.

The "open up" crowd haven't a clue either, no one can predict the future and we can't afford to be wrong when you can see just how bad it can get, that is why the measures now are warranted.

Some go on the evidence we see all around us. Very few deaths, very mild if any symptoms in most people who have Covid. What I can’t understand is why you and all the other Covid cheerleaders can’t see what’s going on around them. Or, if they do believe there is a deadly pandemic going on why the just don’t stay in and mind their own business. You certainly won’t see me insisting everyone goes out if they don’t want to.

Sure, label all discussion and opinions you don't agree with in such a manner. That's mature, and not at all a method of throwing one's toys out of the pram.

You were doing the very same in here 6 months ago. This thread has definitely attracted a certain cohort alright.

Globally the deaths are elderly with underlying conditions too. I will be going out shortly, not a bad day for a long walk.
