Did you try doing it on a different browser? Do you have any extensions enabled on the browser that might be the cause?

I'm doing that same format interview for the Third Secretary competition, it's due tomorrow actually. Did you guys use sonru as well for the recording? When did the interview take place? Just trying to see how long it takes for results to be back

    It was Sonru.

We had a week to submit interviews but were given a little extra time as Sonru had technical difficulties one day. I believe the 21st of October was the last day to submit.

Anyone else get a fatal error message when they try to submit the detailed application form?

Email them for help. You might be able to send the form in directly if it won't work on your computer.

I just sent the form in a few hours ago myself as my laptops are broken and I'm "borrowing" my brother's PC while he's asleep.

That's great to hear in all honesty; I think everyone under or around 1,600 should be eventually called to the next stage based on that. Possibly a bit less given the COVID situation, but not a huge margin. Thanks for posting this; it really helps!

It was clarified further down in the thread that they weren't actually called to the next stage unfortunately, it seems that panel didn't go beyond 600. I'd say those of us in the 1000s or above don't have much of a shot unless there's a remarkably high turnover of staff over the year.

You never know though, not everyone gets through all the stages and even pass they might have other jobs to take. My manager was saying there will be a lot of retirements in the next two or three years, and with current economic situation, they might want to recruit as many as possible while they still can. Just don't lose hope yet.
On a side note, for those through to the next stage in general stream, I was reading the message today and it says next stage would be assessment centre, wonder anyone with any experience on that could share how do best prepare for those?

Has anyone heard back regarding the next stages of the Health Policy stream?
I placed fairly high in the OOM and received a message saying video interviews will be commencing next week but have not got an invite so am unsure whether i made the cut?

Same here for the HR stream. Decent placement but no message or anything as of yet.

For the specialist streams, how do you know what a decent placement would be?

    That's a good point and I suppose I don't.

They'd normally take of Revenue AO IT comp, so Revenue mustn't be running a comp this year

Does it imply anything that you need to ask for the info booklet? I've never seen that before. E.g. too many poor applications to the current EO/HEO ICT competitions? Or is it just a DSP thing

  • Registered Users Posts: 734 ✭✭✭Aceandstuff

Oh, nice. I'll email welfare.ie about the ICT stream application later. They won't have any doubt that I'm applying for jobs then!

I don't know, this is the first time I've seen it with public sector campaign but it maybe to deter people that aren't genuinely interested or qualified for the role.

Even for PAS campaigns, there are always people that just throw in an application to see what happens.

After emailing them I received info booklet and application form. No aptitude test which is a great relief, and since it's only a graduate position there is no requirement for industrial experience.

There isn't but you're competing against those who have and staff within the department who have domain knowledge too. I'd be surprised if those who make the shortlist had none.IT EOs nearly all have some experience be that college placements etc

It also asks you to talk about your competences in the context of work/academics. That being said, I get the impression from the info booklet that they're in a rush to hire, so perhaps there wont be too many applicants.

People with a lot of experience and degrees would be more looking into better paid private jobs I'd imagine. There were HEO positions advertised a few months back which required experience. There is going to be a panel formed, so I doubt everybody on that panel is going to be experienced programmer. In my experience, most civil service ICT positions don't really get involved with programming or actually building ICT infrastructure, a lot of contractors are hired to do that. No harm applying if you are interested in working in that industry. I'm not sure if I want to go that route even though I meet the qualification standard.

That definitely isn't the case for EO, HEO and AO ICTs in Revenue or DSP. For APs and POs that's most definitely the case.

I have no experience of the Civil Service, but I've noticed on many threads people saying that much dev/infrastucture work is outsourced and that EOs etc tend to manage this outsourcing. Is that not the case in your experience?

Generally that'd be HEOs that are hands on in dev or infrastructure areas and they do that work in tandem with admin, invoicing and managing external resources for their areas.

Same here. I'm not hopeful on it though because my OOM was close to 100 ...unless my interview performance reorders my OOM.

As far as I know everyone is on a level playing field for this new stage (in terms of oom)

Thank Christ you get a chance to research them in advance- and while they are topical, it doesn't make them any easier to respond to. The 3 minute per section is going to be the killer.
