Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Don't think this was mentioned but Apple quietly released new Beats X wireless earphones, now re-branded as Beats Flex. Only 50 euro, which is quite a price drop!

    https://www.apple.com/ie/shop/product/MYMC2ZM/A/beats-flex-all-day-wireless-earphones-beats-black

A very good alternative to AirPods. I love my Beats X.

With the Apple W1 chip does that mean the earphones can swap between Mac and iPhone without having to manually remove from one device every time? I think the Airpods Pro do that with the latest update but if these do also its a great price.

Doesn’t affect the warranty. Perfectly okay to do it.

You are a student of life :)

    Cheers.

Put the order through for the iPad Air after I typed it!

    October 23rd estimated delivery.

With sterling so weak, might be better to order off Apple UK and deliver to Parcel Motel. New iPad Air is €667 or £579 which is €637.

€30 plus Parcel Motel costs and probably insurance for such an expensive device
    Plus a day delay.

Is it really that big of a saving?

Also, why do people always default to Parcel Motel?

Parcel Wizard from DPD deliver to your door for the same price.

Unreal price. I had a pair of Beats X but the button broke, Amazon gave me a full refund. Great feature you can share audio with AirPods also. The usb-c charging cable on the “flex” as opposed to the lightning cable on the X is a weird one.

Tempted to go for these but USB-C to USB-C charging cable with no charging brick means I would have to buy one on top as well.

Edit: Actually scrap that. I’ve an iPad Air on order and that has a USB-C brick with it. Doh!

Think it comes down to parcel motel being the first to market. It had great sticking power to it and lockers were useful when we all didn’t work from home :)

They support switching via iCloud but I don't think they support automatic switching.

My Bose Qc35s do this, well if I’m understanding correctly.

If I’m listening to music on the mac and my phone rings the music pauses in the Mac and I can take the call on the iphone and the second I finish the call the music resumes on the Mac.

I also get notification sounds in my ears from the phone while listening to music or on zoom from the Mac.

It’s similar. The QC35 functionality allows you to be connected to two devices and switch between them as you described. The AirPod/Beats functionality allows you to switch between an number of supported devices that you’re signed into in iCloud.

The advantage of the Bose way is that they don’t have to be Apple devices, it’ll work with any Bluetooth audio device.

The advantage of the Apple way is that you can use more than 2 devices, and you don’t have to manually connect them (just sign into iCloud).

Guys so I ordered an iPad Air on Friday and got confirmation email and all but couldn’t get any order info on my Apple page. Basically showing I had no orders.

I’ve since discovered that I ordered through another Apple ID that I have. They are very similar (use one for the UK store) so I used the “UK” one by mistake, even though I bought from the Irish store.

Order is showing as preparing to dispatch and all when I check.

My question is. It doesn’t really make any difference does it that I bought it through one account and will be setting up and using in another? I guess it will show up in my devices when I register it under my original ID?

If I have an issue will I have to use the email I bought it under Orr the one it’s registered to? They are both gmail accounts with just a “.” In the difference in them and emails for both go to the one account. (Gmail can’t distinguish)

I could cancel and re order but mines due on Friday and there’s now a 2-3 week wait for them.

    They aren't charging €700.

Also it's a major revamp from the previous models.

Looks to me like they are. And regardless of how much of a revamp it is, Apple are only charging €667.95.

They are and the revamp is nothing to with Argos.

It's for salon Apple for €667 so Argos have jacked the price up.

    Solution: Don't buy from them.

Thing is UK Apple price is £579 an Argos are charging that in UK> So why rip off Irish customers?

Apologies to the OP. I read it as "Apple" not "Argos" hence my response.

That will teach me to read on my phone while walking.

My comment about the revamp must seem especially weird now.

Argos have always charged over the RRP on Apple products. Even accessories are usually a few euro more expensive. Must be unhappy with the profit margins Apple give them.

In Ireland only though, not UK.

I doubt it. I know you can but it in the U.K. and have it shipped to you in Northern Ireland using an post scheme for it but I wonder will the HomePod work in Ireland at all?

I was told a couple of years ago that the HomePod isn’t available in Ireland because of the Irish accent...

It works on Siri and Siri has an Irish accent.

It's in the UK with lots of regional accents and it works there.

Yeah I have a set of homepods and love them. Amazing sound. The only problem I have with them and it actually seems to have improved lately, is asking them to play RTÉ radio. The pronounciation of the r seems to throw Siri a little.

But as I said, they seemed to have improved lately. Otherwise no problem.

Will you guys be ordering the HomePod mini?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,359 ✭✭✭DubDJ

I'll be ordering one from the Apple UK store on Nov 6th. Exactly what I wanted in an Apple smart speaker, most of the benefits of the normal HomePod, albeit slightly less powerful sound, and at a competitive price.

Mainly want one to use as a HomeKit hub, but the integration with the Apple ecosystem will probably mean I get far more use out of it. Currently have an echo dot and I prefer that Apple tries their best when it comes to privacy compared to Amazon.

I agree, I’ll probably order one or more in the next few months, I have an echo, a dot, a google home mini and an echo speaker add on, but would happily bang them up on adverts to replace with HomePods I think!
