Garda checkpoints didnt appear around Dublin until surrounding counties went to level 3. Had they enforced it properly from the get go we might not be in the situation we are now either.

garda checkpoints are utterly useless. the gangs of young people having house parties are not driving long distances, or driving at all.

means Level 3 was working. No need for Level 5 and the destruction of over 100K jobs, increases in desperation among lonely people and deserted towns and cities.

    More deranged hysteria.

Take your head out of the sand, its not solely young people who are spreading this virus.
Everyone needed to reduce and restrict the number of people they interact with. Young people are just an easy target to apportion blame.

Delighted with the news of fines for the guideline breakers and party/covid spreaders. Hopefully isolation breakers will be targeted too.

Except Gardai don't want them and the commissioner said today they'll only be used as a very last resort, it'll still be the same as its been to now, engagement and then a warning and then fines.

Whats manageable numbers wise in your opinion?
I watched a press conference with Professor Nolan, and I got the impression around 100 a day could be comfortably managed with track & trace. I'm not sure where the cutoff is over that, but the impression I get is that 1000 is not manageable not matter how much effort you put into T&T.

The threat of fines will make a big difference.

    Exactly.

All it takes is a couple of fines and people will get the message very quickly.

level 3 was clearly not working until NPHET gave the country a collective boot up the hole with the original level 5 threat. public compliance is more important than any of the levels. a fully complaint population in level 2 would probably be sufficient.

Yeah because level three could work when the country was at level 2 bar Dublin and Donegal

A future of yoyoing from lockdown to lockdown, economy tanking, debt spiralling, society disintegrating, mental health crumbling and all the while the inevitable spread of the virus is mearly delayed to a level our health system can cope with. There has gotta be a better way.

Everyone in my family, circle of friends are. Just today I did a little shopping, exercise, FaceTime with friends, Netflix, cooking, watched the rugby just there, PS4 soon and chill. Not ideal, but not exactly a headfück either, a bit used to it now.

I’m enjoying being happy, healthy. Just about recovered from a long term health issue so I needed covid like a hole in the head but I’m STILL doing the right thing.

never said they were the sole driver but i didn't hear of any groups of 30 or 40 year olds having "lockdown parties". which is still going on, on facebook this very minute.

More or less, though I have a walk I like to do in the countryside with the dog. It's 11km ish drive from home. Will continue to walk there because I enjoy the quiet and you wouldn't see a soul. Beats walking around the local town with everyone else.

He just said that he "mandated" level 5. No messing around with mere recommendations there.

How about: If you'd kept testing nursing homes weekly instead of fortnightly would we have avoided the Nursing home outbreaks?

Eh have any retailers closed? 1 or 2. No one is caring about Level 5 this time round. Hardly any retailers have closed, one or two where i am, last time it was 100% of them. Business as usual here.

Police don't care either when they just drive on by .
