Yep, that's the reply I was expecting. Enjoy the Covid payment while it lasts. See ya

    Italy with 11k cases

Some cuntries seeing multiples of previous case records.

Almost all are increasing restrictions by varying levels

Where can I find these numbers together with the number of test carried out? In comparison with previous records too. I'm genuinely interested in % of positive tests of all test completed.

If all pubs are takeaway or delivery only what does wet pubs in Dublin still being closed mean? Surely it's irrelevant now?

Belgium cancelled all elective procedures in their hospitals. Restrictions are better than that

The problem is that our mainstream media have totally left the door open for this kind of stuff to creep in.

You've got news on the TV 24/7 and they just don't use that time to really inform people.

What is a "case" for example?
    A positive test, yes?
Is the test for Covid-19 specifically or for coronaviruses in general?
Is it possible for the test to be positive if you have had a coronavirus (or Covid 19) in the past but are OK now?

Why are such a high % of tests negative?
Why are all these people being tested?
These folks have symptoms or just felt like getting a test or what?
What's with all the false positives?
What's the rate of false positves?

Even with masks you could ask a lot of questions about materials and re-use and disposal that just isn't being covered.

What this all does is creates a situation where even well read or well educated people have large gaps in their knowledge and the only people willing to address these gaps are fringe "content creators" with an agenda to push.

The mainstream could have easily addressed so much of the publics information gaps and objections and skepticism but they chose not to.

I see people going around all the time with masks under noses and under chins and all kinds of craziness that seems to be everything except obeying the rules. Are these folk just uneducated or are they doing it deliberately? There's no way to tell.

Why don't media companies just assume that we need to have this stuff explained in detail and with complete honesty and then we'd all be better off.

Internet and social media is a bad thing here but only because people are stuck with going to those platforms to get any kind of substantial information and unfortunately there are people out there ready to take advantage of that by dressing up total bullsh!t as "the facts".

Even something as simple as contextualizing the daily cases by presenting them side by side with the daily tests. So we might be having cases at levels higher than we had back in May but surely we are doing a lot more testing now?

A big part of the "scamdemic" rhetoric is built on top of "don't trust the media".

Why would you trust the media?
At best they are poorly informing people.
At worst they are outright lying.

    In Holland:
However, the positive test rate rose again from 13.6% to 14.4%, partly because 3% fewer tests were carried out in the last week.

Anybody know how to get a schedule for NPHET RTÉ PRESS CONFERENCES-?
They seem to occur randomly Sometimes Mondays and Wednesdays or Thursdays. Today I just found one by accident
    Thanks for any/all replies

One of the ministers was on the radio last week and said not only should the public work harder at abiding by the restrictions, we should also "tutor' other members of the public on the correct etiquette... Sick of this holier than thou nonsense whilst half of them are running amuck, being paid thousands and not even having the decency to apologise but instead justify their actions to the hilt.

You're not being asked to do it for NPHET, you're being asked to do it for your society.

I'll follow it as best I can, I've been living as close as possible to level 4 or 5 since March tbh. I understand the rationale for it. For a measure to be successful it has to be realistic and attainable though. In an ideal world vast majority will comply but when significant minority haven't been all along you'd question what the level of compliance will be.

13 deaths probably from nursing homes.

That's what the big hitter was the last round. Something like 50% of all deaths didn't even make it to hospital, and those that did were only moved to ICU if there was any hope.

Not disagreeing Seamus but have you anything to show the deaths are connected to care homes? I now know of two deaths in the past three weeks and neither were in care homes.

Ridiculous amount of backlog cases today 364, and the way deaths are getting reported needs to improve. 13 today after zero yesterday.

George Lee is one of the most useless journalists. He goes to this covid briefing and regurgitates whatever nphet said and poses it as a question. Eg. His final question was "its crucial that everyone stays within 5k of their home?" DUH, Dr.Holohan is hardly going to say no everyone can go 20k if they feel like it.

Look whether the restrictions are right or not is one issue but when we have journalists like this you really have to wonder is there a case of groupthink within nphet?

They claim to support front line workers but this veil of passive censorship is slipping just far enough for RTE to piss down the back of Irish peoples necks!

George lee, a failed politician now turned science correspondent...really economics?? that's known as the "dismal science" in science circles!
    JOKE!

Not defending George Lee but, look at the state of Journalism these days. It's a mess!

They'll print anything that sells, regardless of whether it's true or not. Broadsheets are no better
I agree that journalism in Ireland has gone to the dogs one or two decent ones out there are Mick Clifford and Maybe Gavin Reilly and one from the Irish Times Simon carswell or something.
Really miss the likes of Vincent Browne who would put forward a very subjective view whilst not letting people avoid answering the question.

Back to George Lee, sometimes I'm not sure if he even thinks he's there to ask questions...it generally sounds like he's giving a report on the six o'clock news rather than asking a question, he really blathers on

Are you surprised though, throughout the last 8 months they've done everything possible to blame the public and never address their own failings. Its actually a real eye opener into how the Doh and Hse is the mess it is. You have these career civil servants who've worked their way up to the top of the tier and have long lost the ability to be objective or have a critical view of their own house.

Then direct it at them and give the rest of us the credit we deserve . There are people out there tonight shutting up shops having done everything right and put thousands into business to keep people safe.
They deserve credit and not to be lumped in with the eejits

This is going to sound pathetic, but it's good to vent.

My brother called over earlier to collect wood I was storing in my shed for his woodburner. Blah blah.

We had a coffee and a catch up about nothing, cos nothing is happening lol.

When he was leaving I just got very downhearted that we won't see each other or our families for many weeks to come. Fed up and thanks for reading.

Not only am I paying a mortgage but I'm also renting a house from a prominent poster in these threads, because I'm a front line healthcare worker who can't risk transmitting the virus to a vulnerable person in my home. You know nothing about me, my life or anything else for that matter so don't even pretend like you do.

So I guess you're right I am pro Level 5. I'm pro level 5 because I see the impact high levels of transmission has on our health system and the people who staff it.

Nice try making it personal, by the way :)
