Absolutely. Only a matter of time.

When does vaccines start trialling out here in ROI?

Once a vaccine is created is there much effort needed to mass produce it?

They already started even mass producing it on the hope it will be approved.

We don't have vaccine trials. Trials take place in countries with high infection rates, something which, per capita, we don't have.

Try convincing the main thread lads of that

You wouldn't think if you watched RTE that's for sure.

Rte only cover the vaccines if something goes wrong. That says it all really

Really puts it into perspective when you see we have a 14 day incidence of 243.3 - Czechia's is 858.6, Belgium's is 756.9 and Netherlands' is 535.1

He's either hopelessly clueless or trying to keep people's expectations in check. Probably bit of both :pac:

A suitable vaccine is coming and it's coming fast thankfully.

If he said the sky was blue I’d look up to check.

This is fast becoming my favourite thread on boards - great place for updates and the anti social lockdown merchants seem to be occupied elsewhere.

Honestly can’t believe he said that; after landing is all with the level 5 news and then that crap on top of it :-(

Missed his speech as was out trying to get the last bit of team training in before lockdown....what did he say? Surely he has heard the positive news coming out?

Basically said this would all continue through 2021... :-(

Best thread on COVID by a country mile. Very informative, usually quite positive and only the odd misery/lockdown/antivax merchant (who usually get bored after a few posts and head back to the main thread).

Ah here, way to get the public on your side. Surely a carrot on a stick to bring us along would be far better than a whip to beat us with!

Every time there is a merge of threads they get separated from their bitching and moaning circle jerk thanking friends and end up wandering in here.
The lack of bitching and moaning gets to them after a short space of time and the wander off again. Shame is their sheer determination when they are here not to learn anything.

Haha when the vaccine is announced it'll be like the eye of Sauron suddenly focusing on this thread.

Every ****ing nut job on this site will be in here screaming bloody murder.

Knives to a gunfight. It's alarming though how I'll informed people are and a clear sign of lack of inciteful media coverage on it here. Media don't seem interested. UK media has been better but their industry has been a leader on this.
Let's just presume Micheal means that all of us won't be vaccinated by end of next year but most at risk hopefully will and restrictions in some form will remain.

It would be reckless for him to promise a vaccine, but don't worry, if one does arrive soon he'll be out there shouting about it as though he has personally developed it.

    Any proof it works though?

That article just proves no immediate side effects

Nothing about trialists been exposed to virus in everyday life and not getting sick/being infected

Bizarre statement, without going full Ewan McKenna, I'd say it's been typical of official Ireland throughout the year, they've been one step behind well informed amateurs most of the way.

How often are trial participants tested for covid does anyone know?

What if your antibody levels diminished enough that you are at risk of contracting the virus again would you go through that again or a lesser version of it

I have an antibody test done three months ago and it came back negative.
But I was told by two different doctors that immunity isn't in the antibodies only, but in the T cells too, so testing negative for IgG isn't a sign of vulnerability to the virus.

A news from this morning says that nothing will be available until next spring, say about 5 to 7 months from now.
    Not so fast, I'd say...

The success of trials depend on a certain portion of trial participants being exposed to the virus. Its why a lot of trials moved to south america earlier in the year - chasing infection. And success would be measured by the number of people experiencing symptoms being less than control, not if they test positive. If all the vaccine we to do was prevent serious infection, it is still worth having.

Can you provide a link for this 'news from this morning'?

Saying that, 5-7 months is still remarkably fast!
